In 1948 terms this car was gorgeous and so advanced. Sad, they couldn't mass produce them. Thanks Lou.
You're right Mike. Did you see this video too? ruclips.net/video/RynjVeLcRWA/видео.html
I saw a Tucker in the Henry Ford Museum in Detroit. The only way to truly appreciate the car is to see it person.
Hi Maynard Reed, Glad to read you enjoy this unique / rare piece of automotive history. Appreciation goes out to the Petersen Automotive Museum which allowed me to share this up close video with you :-) Lou
That Tucker is quite a car. Love the design and I loved the movie Tucker too. Thanks Lou for the up close tour of the Tucker! I loved it! Thanks Lou!
Hi Steve Flad, Glad you enjoy this one. Appreciate the Petersen Automotive Museum allowing me to video this car up close to share with the Viewers :-) Lou
I have been fortunate to see two Tuckers. I have seen this one and the one in the Ford Museum. Fascinating car which was far ahead of it's time.
...and now three :-) Enjoy! ruclips.net/video/RynjVeLcRWA/видео.html
...and then four! ruclips.net/video/AvdcKYW1GIw/видео.html
Built in my old neighborhood, 73rd St. and Cicero Ave., Chicago!
Sweet Home Chicago.

Hi Dale, Happy to read you enjoy this video, and my pleasure sharing this one with you :-) Lou
The gear shift alone is worth the price of admission.
Hi Right Lane Hog, I like your appreciation to the details. You're right, Lou
G'day Lou. Thanks for the video.
My father (1919-2005) wrote to the Tucker Company in the late forties seeking interest in the new Tucker automobile. The Company replied with a lovely multi page brochure and signed cover letter.
I am the holder of that information along with the envelope it was mailed to Australia with.
My father passed away fourteen years ago.
Cheers.
That is an AWESOME piece of history you have as a hand me down from your Father :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
It's my understanding that the Tucker was ahead of its time. The styling, while a little quirky, was unique and very original. That crest adds a bit of class to the car; that and all the shiny chrome. That car is a work of art. Some art depicts real life and some art makes a statement. I'm not sure what statement the Tucker made, but it definitely did make a statement. It dared to be different. Perhaps that's the statement that it made; that not all cars had to conform to the going styling trends. Thanks, again, for sharing that, Lou. :)
Hi clyde7059, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and you're welcome, Lou
THANKS LOU,…not the first time to watch it, but first time to comment on the this 🤩🤩🤗BEAUTY 💚💚💚

What a gem....wonder what they might have looked like in the 50's, hadn't they, or he, not failed....🤨🤔
Hi Duececoupe, Interesting point. Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Tucker didn't fail, politics and the US automotive industry failed him! Having watched the movie the big three were afraid of his success!
Hi Lou! How are you? How is California? Wow! Wow! Cool! Tucker Torpedo, great rare car! I like! Mr. Tucker, "The Man and His Dream"! Thank you Lou for an interesting video!

Thanks Lou, what a car! You can tell that car was well cared for all its life. I saw a Tucker once, it was at Hershey I think. My dad took me there in the 70's when I was a teenager. I remember looking at the engine.
Hi Robert Smith, Fun story with your Dad and you're right, you don't forget where you see a Tucker :-) You're welcome, Lou

Lou, you are the man! Mr. Tucker's Tucker! I've been to the Peterson Museum, but I didn't get to see the vault. This car was not on display then, maybe it's kept in the vault.
I got chills watching this video. These cars are almost mythical.
Thank you!
Hi Ray S, Glad to read you enjoy this unique / rare piece of automotive history. Appreciation goes out to the Petersen Automotive Museum which allowed me to share this up close video with you :-) Lou
A stylish and unique car.

@@loucostabile I'm glad it brings you pleasure to share a rare car this with us.
Wow! The Tucker Torpedo is a dream car of mine. This is the one car I'd be willing to part with parts of my anatomy for I.E. left arm. Great car, great video, and thank you Lou for posting this video. Keep up the great work.
Hi Shady Jake, Glad to receive a "Wow!" from you, and appreciate the kind comment on this video :-) Lou
I remember watching the Jeff Bridges movie in which he played Tucker. Thanks for the excellent presentation and the memories!
Hi Wright Flyer, Glad to share this unique rare car with you up close :-) You're welcome, Lou
I think it would be awesome if you could recreate the beautiful Tucker " Torpedo " 48 in a replica car.
That's a fun idea.
Great video Lou! Thanks.
I’ve seen a handful of Tuckers over the years, most recently at a car auction in Scottsdale this year. Every one I have seen have been blue - this is the first black one I’ve seen. Very nice.
Hi Jeff King, Thank you for the wonderful comment :-) I've only seen two, so it's memorable when you see one, Lou
Still a great video bud!!
Still love it!
Thanks Lou for the recommendation on Tucker's Tucker. Too bad the big 3 put the squeeze on him.
You're welcome. It would have been interesting if his company was able to build them....the Big 4 ?
I think every car should have that much room for the front passenger by eliminating the glove box (it just collects junk). I didn't know it was a rear engine. I'm gonna have to google the controversy (hence the Jeff Bridges movie).
Hi Rudolph Guarnacci, Glad to read your thoughts on this car :-) Lou
@@loucostabile
Wiki said the Big 3 prevented Tucker's superior product from getting off the ground, and that Francis Ford Coppola who directed "Tucker" in 1988 owns a '48 that's worth $1.2 million.
Cyclops headlight is my favorite part.
Thank you ... thank you very much
Nice :-)
The headlight reminds me of a hunka hunka burnin love ☻
Wow it's a beautiful car nice lines very roomy interior great in black those 3 exhaust tips at both corners of rear bumper are cool.
Hi Pete Medina, Glad to read you enjoy the details of this unique rare car :-) Lou
Absolutely awesome.
Hi 20alphabet, High praise :-) Appreciation goes out to the Petersen Automotive Museum which allowed me to share this up close video with you, Lou

Car yes, Petersen... never again. Took the wife there about four years ago, and couldn't believe a place with such a reputation could be run so badly. The cashier girl, overseen by the security guard, tried to short-change me. The guests behind us believed they were working together on scamming tourists. The rest of the help couldn't speak English, and made the patrons around them feel like intruders. A horrible experience overall. Honestly, I'd rather go to Bob's Big Boy cruise night than the Petersen any day of the week.
Thanks posting Lou. Such a great car.
HI D Wright, Glad to read you enjoy this unique / rare piece of automotive history. Appreciation goes out to the Petersen Automotive Museum which allowed me to share this up close video with you :-) Regarding the video, you're welcome, Lou
Wicked looking ride. Nice though. Headlight in center of car, never saw that before. Kool vid👍
Hi Joe W, Glad to read you enjoy this unique / rare piece of automotive history. Appreciation goes out to the Petersen Automotive Museum which allowed me to share this up close video with you :-) Regarding the video, you're welcome, Lou
The idea of the third headlight was that it would point in the direction you were turning the steering wheel so you could see around corners at night
Thanks Lou, that's a beautiful rare car, being from the Peterson museum, I'm surprised it doesn't run
Hi Pontiac GrandPrix73, This car might run, however it was not running the day I videoed. You're welcome, Lou
Thank you for posting this.
My pleasure, and you're welcome.
Great video lou as always
Hi acts2211, Glad you enjoy this video of this unique / rare car. Appreciation goes out to the Petersen Automotive Museum which allowed me to share this up close video with you :-) Lou
Awesome Lou《☆》I never knew they used a helo engine. Very cool & unique with some aviation nuances ☻
Hi BDOG JR, Glad to share this unique & rare car with you, Lou
❤❤❤❤ Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure and you're welcome.
That car is rare as hens teeth, I personally own 3 of them, LOL No not really but I have never stood next to one in my life. It was a marvel of engineering and the big 3 screwed old man Tucker over to put him out of business the way I understood it.
With only 51 of them, and not all of them in great condition, it's pretty cool to share with you.
That is awesome! I gotta see the one near me in Tupelo, Mississippi.
Hi eldo59, Glad you enjoy this car :-) Hard to forget where you see one of these, Lou
That is an amazing video you did, It's too bad Tucker went out of business. I'm glad the big three got their comeuppance for all the dirt they pulled on Tucker.
I'm just curious was that fuel injection under the hood
Hi bill thompson, Thank you for viewing, sharing, and the kind words on this video :-) I don't know if it was fuel injected, maybe a Viewer can share knowledge, Lou
You forgot to mention that the center headlight turns with the front wheels, but still a good video!
Hi Red 13, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, and glad you enjoy this car :-) Lou
The Frankilin Motor company almost went broke around 1935, it was bought and named Aircooled Motor company . In 1945 it began to wane once WW2 winded down and most of the contract were Aviation where it supplied the Bell C-47 helicoptor . Tucker bought the Company to build the engines he needed but had custom Head made for a Liquid cooled motor .
The aviation contracts were not renewed so when Tucker Motor company died the Tucker named ended in 1963 to be bought out and then the Company ended in 1975 where a buyer from Poland shifted production to Europe .
HI Gary wood, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, Lou
Acredita que tem um destes no museu da Ulbra?
Em Porto Alegre? Pois é verdade!
O Tucker? Bateu de frente com a
Indústria automotiva dos EUA.!
Ford! Chevrolet, Dodge? Etc.
Quebraram a tecnologia
Muito avançada para
a época! Veja o filme?
É bom!
Hi Jose B, I'm hoping you enjoy this car :-) Lou
A terrible shame what G.M did to him. That car is a great work of engineering art.

Strange car but it one of kind !
Hi FightClub, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Hopefully next time you can fire it up, and showcase the beveling cyclopes headlight.
Hi Lynx Star Automotive, If I can, I will, and that would be fun :-) Lou
Waaaaaw what an amazing piece of engineering. So 72 year Tucker managed to build a mid engine car, fast forward in 2020 Chevy finally got it right and build a mid engine Corvette. This how advanced it was. What a shame and sad the story behind what the big three did to him.
Hi Firas Alwakeel, High praise for this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
They were real junks!
Hi William, Clearly this one is not for you :-( Hope you see many more cars on this RUclips Channel you'll enjoy :-) Lou
@@loucostabile still junk
Looks like you'd scratch it al up trying to get things out of the trunk.
You don't want to do that.
Once again its not called the Tucker torpedo Its called the Tucker 48

The motor originated from Franklin helicopter motors also produced in the same factory that Tucker leased from the US gov. Tucker had to get these cars done quick, so easy to adapt the Franklin stuff already tooled up and in production. Tucker mashed up parts just because he could not afford the time to do it any other way. I am sure that if Tucker could have gotten to steady cash flow, these cars might have ended up with different engines and transmissions. The cooling system design was very flawed and prone to severe overheating. There was no thermostat in any of the cars.

funny thing is I think Tucker may have done what Porsche took years to figure out was you could build a rear engine car and if you made it long enough you would not have the dreadful tendency to swap ends at a moments notice but I look at this car I see something Cord may have styled even the funky transmission shifter I see a 37 Cord ah Preston Tucker 1948's answer to Elon Musk.
HI fox 6, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
You see Cord styling because the Tuckers used modifed Cord 810/812 transmissions and their matching pre-selector shifters.
WHAT A BEAUTY....I CAN SEE WHY THE OTHER BIG THREE WERE NERVOUS AT HOW ADVANCED THIS CAR WAS IN COMPARISON TO THEIR 1948 MODELS...RUMOR STILL EXISTS THAT THEY CONSPIRED TO SHUT THIS MAN DOWN WITH FALSE ACCUSATION OF STOCK MANIPULATION WHICH WAS PROVEN FALSE IN COURT....SAD...HE DIED A YOUNG MAN STILL IN 1953 AND I AM SURE THE FAILURE OF HIS AUTOMOBILE CONTRIBUTED TO HIS DEATH...
Hi JIM RICK, Glad to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge, and thoughts, Lou
Watch out....Unsafe at any Speed. Air-cooled rear engine, just like the Chevy Corvair.
Thank you for viewing and sharing your thoughts.
It is water cooled, not air.
Just found the engine startup, sounds cool ruclips.net/video/G2F8J6cL6C8/видео.html
