Scotty Moore was as great a musical genius as Elvis himself. There was NO ONE ELSE in the world who could have backed Elvis the way Scotty Moore did. His solos comprise new, original, boldly innovative ideas. Listen to the musical architecture of the Hound Dog solo. By comparison, the great James Burton played pretty standard, Chuck Berry style lines. There are many other of these early solos which are just incredible. Tutti Frutti? Hello! A UFO has just landed! ...Can't say enough!!!
Many don't know what a treasure this man was for aspiring guitar players like me.From the first time I heard his licks on Elvis's records I wanted to play.
Bill actually went on to become an incredible success by himself in The Bill Black Combo. Leaving Elvis was the best thing that ever happened to him. He was at the time the most famous bass player in America from 1960-1964 and was much more successful than he was with Elvis. Scotty did go back and play, but Bill was really hurt at how they were treated, so he personally chose not to reconcile. Elvis did visit Bill's wife after he died, which as nice.
Fair enough. I had either forgotten or was unaware of Chet Atkins (my timelines frequently get crossed). I merely used Scotty because he's generally more remembered/referenced. I am aware of Dean Martin and James Dean's effects on Elvis, and in turn, Bing Crosby's effect on Dean Martin.
From the way Scotty or Sam tells the story as opposed to other versions, it seems in fact that this is all fairly new. Sam is already putting out Black Blues. Now bit by bit he's going to risk putting out a fairly new up tempo style by Elvis, who just happened to do a faster version of That's All Right, and ask for some airplay to get a reaction. Then he presses the record due to demand. Serendipty!
scotty moore was great guitarist. But I have a question does anyone really know why were the reasons that bill black never worked with elvis again. I know he died in 1965.
I'm still a big Scotty Moore fan till this day1!
A great musician and gentleman!...
Imagine how thrilled the young Elvis was to get that call to go to the radio station and be interviewed on the radio! He only 19 years old!

Elvis is in the right time at the right place and history is made. That's alright.

Elvis was in a decade long movie contract and also the manager Tom Parker didn't like Bill that much
it's ironic how many great tunes are written simply by a mistake made or on a whim.
