Brother, just checking in on you to see how you are doing. I started with you back in 2020 to learn basics of Options so you have a special place in my heart like so many others.
Started a new, very potent med called Cytoxan (which is a type of chemotherapy) to try to nuke this autoimmune issue. So I’m waiting on that to kick in and hoping for the best. Thank you!
@@InTheMoneyAdam Thank you for taking time to reply. I am praying that cytoxan will help with the autoimmune symptoms. Have you taken any biologics drug? I am sure you are under care of good doctors but I am in a biotech field so might be able to do some research for you on if there are biologics that can help your condition.

Even if you make more money than the Roth IRA limit, you can do backdoor Roth conversion.
does that mean you make a traditional ira aside from your roth ira. max it out then file it then the following year convert it to a second roth? or can you add it to the first roth after its filed traditional?

Thank you for all the great videos. Peoples minds are blown by how quickly I've been able to learn what I have over the course of a month or so. I point them to you when they ask. A few years back I started watching your videos but then things got crazy, so when I returned and saw what was going on I was shocked and saddened. I hope your health improves soon. Criminal how the doctors have handled your case. Probably stupid, I know, but I did read an article that said vitamin b1deficiency can sometimes be the culprit. Goodness knows if it was some doctors would not tell you. But I check everyday to see if you've posted any health updates. I really am pulling for you! Hang in there. This has always been my thought as well. Especially if you start doing max contributions at an early age.... if you're going for exponential growth (not funds) why the heck would you ever want to pay taxes at the time of withdrawal?... there is no world in which those immediate tax benefits outweigh not having to pay taxes on my capitals gains when i'm old and chillin

I hate that I didn’t know what I was doing back in the day and setup a traditional Ira
It’s ok, convert that bad boy over to the Roth!
In my country, New Zealand, IRA accounts are mandatory and traditional by default. Cannot switch to Roth. Can however claim financial hardship if unemployed and withdraw that money to invest it personally. Earnings are taxed at 28% by default

There is a way to invest in those that are over the income limit. Research "back door roth" It's a way to invest in a roth even earning more than 153K for single filers or 228K for joint. It's been going on for years, it's not new or illegal, just not talked about.

In Canada about a decade ago, one of the big fund companies started selling " STAR FUNDS" which consisted of buying a fund that holds 5 other funds for the " ultimate diversification" The kicker was you paid an MER on that fund and then indirectly paid MERs for the 5 other funds, plus commission to the brilliant advisor that put you in the mess. Standard mutual funds serve very little purpose anymore with the explosion of ETFs and index/sector funds which carry very low fees.

Hey man, you were off base on a couple things here. One thing I'll point out is that "traditional don't have any income limit". Yes that is true for contribution, but not for the deduction, the tax benefit. Depending on your income, participation in an employer sponsored plans, your spouses participation in employer plans, and just having a spouse can all effect the deductiblility of your contributions. Either way, I wish you the best as far as your and your brother's health!!!
yeah there's nuance to this topic. my biggest fear is after 20 or so years the government is going to see all these untaxed gains and feel real salty about that and find a way to screw it up or limit the original idea behind roth. i have both going personally, roth just sounds like a better deal but i keep the traditional just as a lever I can pull in the future or if i ever wanted to lower my taxable income.
@@scottwilly86 I totally agree man. I would imagine though that it would be political suicide for the law makers who take back the tax free gains. But also traditional is cool too, in fact it's even tax free up to the standard deduction or your itemized deduction if you're an itemizer.

I paid for Morningstar through my retirement. My return was 4%. Awful. My savings account w zero risk has a higher return than that. I canceled, pick my own “lazy” 3 fund portfolio and its now making 12%, and I don’t pay them. If I never checked, I never would have know.
Awesome! You were lucky. Some people trust too much on advisors, not knowing they're sometimes biased with a product.

The only argument I’ve seen for traditional is that when you withdraw you will be in a lower tax bracket than you are now which might make it worthwhile. But all the calcing I’ve done shows the same you said where Roth ends up with lots more money at the end.
Most ppl end up in a higher tax bracket with age tho.
Anyways I’ve never seen anyone do the math because pretty sure it ends up the same in the end.
Basically 80% of money gets to earn money. (Taxed beforehand)
Or 20% extra of ur money also gets to earn but then at end lose 20% (taxes).

I only do the marching 5% in my traditional. The rest goes into my roth. I would rather pay the taxes now than to worry about it in retirement.

Great video! We 100%agree with funding the full 6500 to the Roth Ira. Tax free inheritance, zero affect on agi/magi, and many other benefits.
Haven't been hanging around the investment corner of youtube for a couple of years since the GME craze and the months that followed. A few years later and (hopefully) a little wiser I decided now might be the time to dip my toe back into the mix. I decided to checkout your channel for the first time in a long time because you taught me all I know about options back in the day and you were my favorite stock market youtuber. Now I've discovered all these health issues you've been fighting. :( Really sad to learn about all this man, I hope one day soon you are fully recovered and back to regularly making videos. Cheers :)

Another awesome benefit of a Roth IRA is that you're allowed to trade pretty much anything securities-wise. So all the gains are totally tax free. If you know what you're doing, you can make some serious money without the government getting their grubby little hands on it.
In addition to that, you can also set up a spousal IRA which allows you to double your contribution limit.
You can trade whatever you want in an ira also

@@khafreahmose8768yes I can trade options in my traditional IRA.
i would say traditional accounts have a much stronger use for people who want to retire early using a roth conversion ladder, if your expenses are low and you dont want to wait till your 58 to retire, you could feasably put your money into a traditional, and when you want to stop saving you start your conversions, it will increase your income during the conversions but paired with an account that gives you long term gains to suppliment your expenses you could then manage to quit your job and still have lower taxes, im sure everyones situation is different but my expenses are so low im pretty sure ill have 0% taxes for the rest of my life at their current rates. youd still effectively need a majority of your savings in a taxable account. but as long as im paying 0% tax im fine with that, and you can also use the taxable account as a leverage account to use as a debit account simplifying bills or having access to a portion of your funds in case of an emergency or a once in a lifetime deal.
The goal, for me, is to do whatever it takes to get money in the ROTH IRA. not starting a ROTH IRA is my only regret in my retirement planning. now that I understand options trading better, I can make WAY more money in the ROTH IRA, tax free, within that account. same with an HSA. With the HSA, my medical will be covered for my entire life with no need to use capital or limit myself to just what the government can provide after 65.
The other consideration is current income tax rate versus what the tax bracket would be when you retire. I use a Roth IRA now because I know (I hope) my income will be substantially higher and be in a higher tax bracket before retirement. Paying taxes now is a discount rate.
