I think this is a really interesting theory, but personally I don't think it was Demise, partially just because I feel like it's just more effective as a show of Ganondorf's strength to break it on his own rather than needing Demise's intervention to succeed.
Re: Demise and reincarnation, yes, Ganondorf isn't directly a reincarnation of Demise, but just an incarnation of demonic hatred. It's even more clear in the Japanese where they outright say that he's placing a demon lord curse on Zelda's bloodline, and Link's spirit.
Thirdly: if Ganondorf was a reincarnation, Demise *could* technically exist in the sword still, Japanese mythology has souls separated into Kokoro(heart, who you are as a person) and Tamashii(soul, the immortal essence of your being) and we see this split in Link in Twilight Princess. TP Link has the Tamashii of the Hero, but the Hero's Shade is OoT Link's Kokoro

    • @CNicolson

So Ganondorf has the Tamashii of Hatred, and it's Demise's Kokoro inside the sword... Did I get that right?

Counterpoint: I've seen it be a thing in other Japanese media that that kind of seal needs to be tackled from both within and without at once in order to be broken; it _must_ be a joint effort.
So the impressive show of strength would be that Ganondorf was powerful enough to actually contribute to that.

I really like this because - if there is any overarching plan to the Hero of the Wild games - the possibility that Demise has been freed from the sword now meets with the question of where the Triforce is. If they made a third game with this Hero, the elements are all there for a quest to recover the Triforce in order to deal with Demise.

I think it’s very possible that Demise escaped the master sword after Ganondorf destroyed it and is after the tri force. In a third game I could definitely see that being the story alongside traveling to 4 new kingdoms bordering hyrule with the twili or lomei as an advanced race with their technology being red in order to stop demise

We saw in Breath of the Wild that the Master Sword is tied to Link’s life. When he was on the verge of death in BOTW’s final memory, the sword was decayed. In Tears of the Kingdom, Rarru said that Link was on the verge of death and that he couldn’t save his right arm. So my theory that Ganondorf attacked Link to weaken him and his sword. From there, Ganondorf was able to shatter the sword.

The thing is that the Master Sword actually isnt completely tied to Link's Strength.
In A Link to the Past you can give it to two weapon smiths who temper it and make it twice as sharp.
They reshaped the Blade with their Hammers by heating it up.
Breaking something is nothing else than changing its shape.
The Master Sword is immune to magic, yet not immune to physics, so I think it is more likely that Ganondorf's Gloom caused this because Gloom is a Corrosive Substance in High Concentrations (you can read this in the Picture Description of Ganondorf in his Second Form)

    • @chaos4654
      @chaos4654 Год назад +1

My personal thoughts/theory on the shattering of the Master Sword is that it was fully caused by Ganondorf & the power he got from the Secret Stone.
But another thing to consider: The Master Sword in Tears of the Kingdom was missing enchantment measures.
In Wind Waker, the Master Sword needed to be re-empowered by the Sages of Wind and Earth.
By the time of Tears, the characters of the modern era are only finding out what a Sage is right then, meaning the role had fallen into near obscurity. So no Sages or Priests/Priestesses to empower the Master Sword.
To me, it's very likely that lack of enchantment is the reason the Master Sword got damaged and broken in Breath & Tears.
Sure Zelda bathed it in Holy power, but that's more of a "quick" patch job, even if it (apperantly) gained the power to never break again when fighting Ganons specifically.

I’ve noticed that the Malice/Gloom keeps getting more red as time goes on.
In Skyward Sword, the Tainted Water and Koloktos have a purple color.
In BoTW, the Malice is pinkish-red in color.
Now in ToTK, it’s almost always a dark or light red color.
Does this mean anything or am I looking into something that’s not there?

    • @19TheFallen
      @19TheFallen Год назад +6

Thematically, red is associated with power in the Zelda series, ie the Triforce of Power. The Malice and Gloom gradually changing from a more pale, pink/purple color to the red we se in _Tears of the Kingdom_ could be a hint that as time has passed, Demise and/or his incarnations of his hatred and malice are getting stronger and more powerful over time! And as I think about it, it makes sense......Tens of thousands of years have passed since Demise first laid his curse on Link, Zelda and their bloodlines, and in many cultures, beliefs and superstitions, a curse like the one he cast......one cast out of malice and hate.....grow stronger over time. Which would also mean that the incarnations of his hatred and malice would grow stronger over time as well! I have no doubt in my mind that Demise laid that curse, not only with the intention to plague their bloodlines with wave after wave of monsters and incarnations of his malice as payback for his loss, but with the intent to eventually create one strong enough to wipe them out!

      @Chris-gx1ei Год назад

I am also not really convinced.
The Description of The Picture from Ganondorf in his Second Form says that his Gloom is so strong that it became a Corrosive Substance that decomposes away all of Link's Equipment when it gets hit by that (with the repaired Master Sword being the only exception) and even erodes Link's Body bit by bit depending on how many Heart Containers he has.
It is basically Acid Corrosion that caused the Sword to break, since the Master Sword is immune to any type of Dark Magig, even the Magic of the Full Triforce, however it is still bound to the laws of Physics as even proven in A Link to the Past where you can give it to two Dwarf Smiths to make the Master Sword's Edges Sharper, this proves that the Sword can be reshaped and Therefore it could theoretically also be destroyed, it was only a matter of Time when this would happen

I also went a step further and said Demise's Hatred might also be the root cause of some other undead creatures unable to rest in peace. Poes, Redeads, Gibdos, ect.
It's also the reason why I believe that Demise's Curse can host in several different bodies. Meaning that more than one Ganondorf can exist potentially. Because Ganondorf inherited a concept, and said concept has none of the jurisdictions Link and Zelda have.

Wait, hear me out. Do you think Nintendo is setting up the anti-triforce? Malice, gloom and one other unrevealed force are somehow the antithesis of Courage, Wisdom, and Power, and the three goddesses’ roles/influences in the creation of Hyrule? Would that be connected to why we have the 3 Dark Dragon skeletons in the underground, and even why that ritual became forbidden? Could they also be setting up for the return of Demise and Ghirahim as the revived champions for Hylia’s antithesis?

Your theory about Demise’s spirit still being alive and Ganondorf being his incarnation is super solid, plus it’s backed up by the actual concept behind reincarnation. It’s not that beings directly reincarnate into multiple forms, but that all beings are themselves incarnations of the divine oneness that is the Universe. But in rare cases an individual embodies certain qualities so strongly that there appears to be some genuine continuity between past incarnations. Very similar to Zelda, Link, and Ganondorf/Demise: individual souls who appear across history in certain significant eras, that are all unique yet still connected by clear reoccurring similarities, sometimes bound by fate or blood, sometimes totally random. So when it comes to the Spirit of the Hero/Blood of the Goddess/Demise’s Curse, on one level each incarnation is separate… but on another level they are all one.
This all also ties into the working theory that The Bargainer is more or less Demise, or at least Demise’s source. Kinda like Shiva the Destroyer in Hindu mythology. The Demise we saw in Skyward Sword might even be a more direct incarnation of the original god of death/darkness that Hylia sealed away, who I believe to be The Bargainer.

Perhaps the part of the sword where Demise is sealed is actually the hilt, and not the blade. In Tears of the Kingdom, we never see any hint that Demise broke free from the Master Sword as the blade part broke, so maybe Ganondorf was unknowingly “this” close to unsealing his origin.
I would love to see a future Zelda game that dives into the question of what might happen should the Master Sword be truly and utterly destroyed, and how the hero of that era might repair it, forge a new one, or defeat evil without it 🤔

It's also worth noting that the concept of Demise reincarnating/incarnating his hatred through ganondorf is that we have no need to assume the reincarnation works like the common "western" version of concept where it requires the same soul to go from one life to another, but rather can use the eastern version, which I have heard explained like this: a candle is used to light another candle, which doesn't consume the flame of the other candle, but is also not affected by the first candle going out. They are not the same exact same flame, but are linked in a lineage. So if we use this concept, Ganondorf could exist as a separate entity whilst Demise's soul still exists, which is especially important since Demise has apparently "conquered time itself", and probably does not experience linear time in the exact same way, but as a deity might, and is present in all ages at once, so that there is never really a time before or after him, so Ganondorf would always exist at the same time as some fragment of Demise.

I think Demise may have weakened the sword, and you do have a good point about the name, but if Demise was to have broken free in TOTK, that didn't seem to happen in game. Due to the nature of sword seals, as shown in Four Swords and Four Swords adventures, it's often not even necessary to destroy the sword in order to release the one sealed within. So clearly whatever is left of Demise in the Master Sword is only coming back with a triforce wish.
By the way, Ghirahim isn't necessarily dead, so I can totally see a game where he gets the Triforce and resurrects Demise, or even manipulates Ganon, Vatti, Malladus, or some new Villain into resurrecting Demise.

*This video is a spoiler so idc if someone didn't finish the game.*
I like to think that once Ganondorf broke the master sword, the seal on demise broke, but at the end of the day he was only just a shadow/form of darkness, what allowed him to regain power was when link recalled the master sword all the way to Zelda in the past, this somehow made Demise somewhat regain some of his powers but those were not enough.
He escaped from the master sword and decided to find a way to regain most of it, until he stumbled onto a gerudo male child, he fed all his hatred towards the goddess hylia in the child and therefore began Ganon's path of destruction, this to me makes sense because :
    1) Yes in the zelda storyline Ganon was always a strong af Magician/Swordsman but him instantly becoming a demon king with a secret stone making all the sages uselss seems crazy, I think he gained some of the dark powers from Demise's anger
    2) We see that Ganon takes sonia as his target, this could be explained because at the same the other sages don't have their secret stones and rauru might have been too strong of an opponent but I think there is more to it, just think about it, Priestess/Hylian/Light powers, she does resemble someone no?
So yeah I think demise made Ganon start all the various wars (Imprisoning war, etc) so he could gain his power back through all the destruction) and at the same time caused a time loop of some sort.

It looks like you too believe the converged timeline theory based on the timeline you showed in the video, I've got a fun concept you could run with. I believe tears of the kingdom actually sets up the convergence event, a paradox created by Zelda.
Not the closed loop of empowering the master sword, she prevented the birth of her own ancestors. We never see or hear them at all in the past and it could just be written off as coincidence but there's one key piece of evidence that transcends all the spoken language. In the cutscene where Sonia notices Zelda's blood connection to Rauru and herself, and for just a moment while considering the implications he becomes visibly flustered as if embarrassed by the idea. This is not the reaction of someone who has already had a child would have but someone who hasn't, he is in that moment showing that this wasn't something he had even considered to this point and is embarrassed by imagining it. I believe that in order to fix this paradox Zelda with the help of who ever the remaining dragons are (I believe it's the remaining ancient sages) have to merge the timelines in order for a timeline where she is born can overlap with their timeline and in so doing combines all the existing time lines.
I could never make a video to do this idea justice but feel free to use the idea and pick my brain for more details I've put a lot of thought into this one

That was part of my point during the "theory explained" section. Calamity Ganon's malice was only strong to damage the sword, but Ganondorf's gloom which is stronger than CG's malice in general AND because it's amplified by the secret stone, could potentially be strong enough to awaken whatever of Demise is left in the sword. That's the theory anyway

Ganondorf being an incarnation makes sense if you also believe the triforce is split into three and none of the wielders know it. It would explain how Zelda was more powerful than Sonia by a biiig margin, why Ganondorf goes Super Saiyan when other secret stone weilders didn't get nearly that same level of power up, and why only Link could be the one to retrieve the Sword in the present...

  • @Feniksds

Ganondorf is not a reincarnation. Demises hatred gets incarnated in a bloadsoaked sea of darkness (gloom/malice). In the game we see a shift in tone of Ganondorf where he shifts from trying to conquer hyrule with the Gerudo to wanting to destroy the world and using monsters even against the Gerudo. This character switch is very weird. So my guess is that something or someone must have influenced him. I don't 100% know about the time placement. But my guess is Demise really is in the master sword and Ganondorf got corrupted in a way. Thus freeing Demise by destroying the mastersword. I even believe something else aparently 3 people in the past have tried to do draconificationn, but people who get draconified fullfill their last wish which in the case of the 3 dragons is guarding the wells. This task is a peaceful one and not dangerous. Which makes me believe that they were forced to by an unknown enitity. Maybe for some experiment in a time before Ganondorf. So maybe this same entity is what influenced him to do what he did.

As much as I would like to see Demise return, I think they'll stick with Ganondorf. Recently i've been seeing a lot of theories about Ganondorf being Demises's hatred than actually Demise and I really think they're true, they just make so much sense especially when yo consider what Malice and Gloom are supposed to be.

Good theory but Nintendo doesn't listen to fans, so they will never say anything about this. Take for instance breath of the wild pointing to demise coming back in tears of the kingdom, literally everything was there, the sword was already on it's way out and the trailer even blue balled us by revealing a Ganon who looks almost exactly like demise but no, despite everyone saying this is definitely where it's going and that it would probably boost their sales by a shit ton, we got a piss poor Ganon and nothing like what the previous game hinted at.

Worst lore trashing the LoZ developers have ever done. I would argue that having master sword be the only unbreakable weapon in the games would have been perfect. You can't get it in either game without having to put in time and effort and outside of against bosses its not the strongest weapon. Plus it's just smart to have a way to not force the use of the crappy weapon durability system which just made the games not fun if the player didn't want to. You know in the zelda games that were supposed to be all about playing it how the player wanted to. Plus even still players would have to use the stupid constantly breaking weapons until they could unlock the master sword so the argument of players not experiencing the system holds no water. What are they going to do when they break it the next time after it spent literal centuries being powered up by Zelda only to magically become tin foil again because "REASONS". Thanks for making arguably the most awesome items in zelda lore feel as worthless as the first rotting stick you pick up off the ground at the start of the game.

There's one thing that been bugging me, though. If the sword is broken, doesn't this mean the seal is basically broken? If so, why Demise wasn't free from it?
Also, since Demise is seal inside the Master Sword, it also a reason why the power of Master sword is slowly decaying.
I was like, The Sword is broken, so the seal is, now Demise should have been set free...
Yet, I still think Nintendo could do something in a "third" Xelda Game about Demise.

Demise wasn’t freed because he’s about as dead as a being like him can get. It was stated at the end of Skyward Sword that the last remnants of him were slowly decaying inside the sword, by the time TOTK rolls around, he’d be gone for good and TOTK’s opening pretty much proves that by nothing happening when the sword shatters in the opening.

My thinking is he was too weak. He got his ass kicked at the end of SS, and he's been getting suppressed by the Master Sword's sacred energy throughout the entire timeline. In Botw, Calamity Ganon's malice may have woken up Demise's spirit in the sword, which is why we see for the first time the MS actually damaged. But the malice wasn't strong enough to allow Demise to weaken the sword enough for it to break. TotK however, since Ganondorf is stronger than Calamity Ganon AND he's powered up by his secret stone, his gloom should definitely be able to power up Demise enough to break the sword.

To answer your question at the end of the video; there's no Ganondorf anymore nor will there be any. After what Nintendo has done with TotK and its story, it's clear to me at least, that they're trying to radically distance themselves from traditional Zelda and anything connecting directly to it. There's so much stuff just thrown in there, yet no concrete placement or any sense to any of it, that I can only come to the conclusion that Ganondorf's dead and that's it for him. At least until the day of the sales dropping at which point they are gonna go back to the roots, which at this point will be in like 20 years. TotK just makes no sense whatsoever and everytime I hear a theory that could make sense of the game and its placement in the existing franchise, I quickly find a reason for it not to work and I'm back to square 1. Why was the master sword first weakened in BotW and later shattered in TotK? Because this is not Zelda anymore and the infaluable master sword, that seals the darkness and cannot be touched by evil, was broken by plotholes.

If you follow that train of thought , there is no Demise after Skyward Sword. Because he isn’t mentioned directly at all. With the rerelease of Skywards sword on the switch between BOTW and TotK, it can be implied that Nintendo was directing us towards Skyward Sword to look at again in the midsts of theories about the timeline. Also, this “reboot” theory , while possible, seems like an extreme move.
They’ve said gameplay is most important and story is secondary, not that the story is unimportant. They can still tie in major plot points and characters into new games without scrapping everything, they built a big enough sandbox to play around in, so why couldn’t the big bad from the game that was rereleased between BOTW and TotK (and who is the origins of evil in the ENTIRE series) make a return? I’d say Demise showing up somehow in the near future leans more towards plausible than implausible. But that’s just a theory.. A GAME TH…. Oof, got excited for a second, lol
