Something that is forgotten from the conversation when it comes to how many incredible games came out between 2013-2019 is that they were all the results of "crunch" aka unregulated video game sweat shops. The amount of people who missed Christmases and their children growing up in order to make me Red Dead 2 is staggering.
If you want better working conditions for people, that's going to come with a massive, massive, massive slow down in productivity and a ton of firings while the books are adjusted for the removal of "can be worked to death" from everyone's contracts. When everyone's a stone you can bleed dry, you can have a lot of them. When everyone's a person now, you're gonna hire less people who actively want to work as close to the sweat shop conditions that they can get away with.
To the people expecting these new CEOs to ditch GaaS….

It's also not a first party game and it's a one of a kind success. I don't doubt that they're going to learn every wrong lesson from Helldivers, but that doesn't make them the right decision just because that game has had success.
The market simply cannot support endless games as a service games. People don't have enough time to spend on multiple games like that, and you will just continue to cannibalize your audience by trying it over and over and over again until eventually they all leave altogether
We just got several indies last week that are hitting well above their belt like animal well and little kitty big city, granted Helldivers is also smaller and one of the biggest hits this year. Sometimes indies and smaller games really do offer more where AAA blowout budget games can't and I wish other studios would take notice.
I mean Tim is just wrong when he says that gamers don’t uphold the “we want worse graphics” mentality. Minecraft, Roblox, and palworld are easy examples right off the top of my head. Not to mention that first party Nintendo games outsell first party PlayStation games.
Right now, I think it's a pretty even split, which is problematic. Half of gamers just want good fun games with worse graphics and half of them care about graphics, 50+ hour games and AAA quality over everything else.
I guess I'm just at the point where I'd rather take an excellent 1o hour game that I could replay and feel satisfied with over a 100 hour slog.

Absolutely, some(most tbh) of his takes are awful, and he seems so confident when saying them lol. I'd have thought after years of being a host on KF (including on a LS podcast!), he'd know a bit more about the business. But it doesn't look like it

@@jzilla1234I mean I'm guessing this is the problem, not enough actual research. On KFGD they just read the headlines and react to them - that's fine if you've done your homework on these matters and know what you're talking about, but most of it time they seem to just say whatever comes to the top of their head at that point. And that's how you get alot of contradictory opinions from someone and nothing more than surface level "analysis".
@@Shrewdy1 honestly, i think they go to neogaf and resetera. and then regurgitate talking points from the threads without actually reading the article. how many times and how recently did these boys en masse repeat "gamepass is best deal in gaming" with zero questions asked. and flips on a dime, acting like they knew it unsustainable the whole time
He's never claimed to be anything but a guy who likes video games and listened to IGN Beyond.
I agree with Bless. Currently, I feel like my PS5 was a waste. Greg will curse me if he reads this... I wish I just got a PC.
If I didn't stream regularly on mine and work through my PS4 backlog on it, I probably would feel the same.
No exclusives on PC either just better performance. Most PC gamers are still playing old ass games like CS,Valorant, WOW etc… gaming as a whole just sucks this gen

Damn, you and I must be playing completely different consoles because I have loved my PS5 and I have a backlog of games that will last me for the rest of year.
@BenderOfStrings I didn't buy a PS5 to play games that I've been playing. It's not that we have an entirely different console, we're just different people lmao. At least with PC you get better visuals and mods.

To be clear, I’m not implying that I’m the source of the quote. However, I 100% agree with this sentiment and stand behind it.
A console is only as good as the games released for it. An amazing box with little to no quality software is useless. This is why the PS5 and XSX|S currently stand as a couple of the worst consoles ever released.
A new box (even a more powerful one) with the same lack of quality software releases won’t fix the problem.
A more powerful next-gen box will only further increase consumer expectations and make it even harder for developers to meet, much less exceed, said expectations. Sony and Microsoft need to consider this before rushing into next-gen hardware.
