Great video, I was visiting London from America back in October and made it a point to ride the 319s, really glad I did. Rode 319217 out to Milton Keynes and back, love the traction motor sounds these cars made.
Well done, I used the 319s on the Seven Blokes, Catford, Blackfriars route, second to none. Almost sitting on the floor seats, but the DC motors whining away gave a sound that put you in a relaxing semi sleep. The new trains with their ironing board seats are ok, but people using tinny mobile phones spoil my ride. I work sixty hours a week, and utilise the train to catch up on my rest.
Yep. Nothing like the decades old butt indentation for comfort either. Rode the 319s regularly up until retirement on WCML, definitely great for cold weather nappage if you sit over the heaters. The 730/0s aren’t the worst but definitely designed for suburban use, I hope the 730/2s will be better suited for WCML use.
I grew up with these units and had many fond years of riding them. As much as I like them and love the awesome traction noise. They won't last forever but I would like to see one preserved even if it is a Class 769 unit like 769008 or 769009 as I am sure you may be aware that they ran through the channel tunnel on a private service in November 1993 before the tunnel opened to the public. Interesting units to say the least. Thank you for the video mate. It is appreciated.
As a kid growing up in the 90's in London, I always saw it as a bit of a treat to ask my dad to go home from his offices in The Strand back home to Edgware takingthe Thameslink instead of the Jubilee Line. The good old Kings Cross Thameslink station and the dive that was Mill Hill Broadway. It was always a case of chancing which station you'd happily change at if to catch the stopping/metro service that did Luton to Sutton if you were on a Gatwick to Bedford train. I used to remember their different seating configurations and how to distinguish the trainsets apart by their buffer/front cowling/snow scoop configuration with the suburban services being the former and the Bedford to Brighton being the latter
I have got two of these class319 in model form now I have heard what they sound like since these models have fitted speakers as standard I am going to buy a pair of sound decoders for both of my 319s
I think Northern should keep their 319s & rebuild them all as 769s to solve the DMU shortage problems and allow them to run more of the 150-156 trains as 4 car units as increasingly used on the Buxton line. 769s couldn't run on the steeply graded Buxton line as only 2 engines for a 4 car train.
Used to go St Agnes for nursery, right next to Cricklewood station me and parents used to go train spotting there. You had the FCC 319’s and EMR HST’s, truly a time to be alive.
Really well executed video! It's a huge shame we didn't see the GWR 769s in operation (although I had the pleasure of going on them when I did my work experience with Porterbrook) as they, inside, were really good units (I still have hope they will enter service one day though). We have a huge need for more diesel and bi-mode stock so I do hope the 769s get some more action outside of Northern - the DfT just need to pull their head out of the sand!
I wish the 319's didn't have to go there are older DMU's such as 150's still kicking around and yet DMU's are supposed to have a shorter lifespan then EMU's you would think that Northern could've kept there's until at least 2025 because that's when the 769 lease ends.
@@somenorthlondonerBut as I said in the first post the 150's and other DMU's are more life expired and should've been replaced by now not to mention some of the even older tube stock on the London Underground.

Really informative video!
Great video and have now subscribed look forward to seeing more
Thank you so much!
I have two of these 319 in model form courtesy of Graham Farish it is an excellent model
Gonna miss the class 319s and their really loud motor sounds as it speeds along and the screams it made as it passes through the stations.
I miss the 319s - especially that motor
The start sound sounds similar to the 1992 unrefurbished stock.

I can't see more 769s being built when there are a plentiful supply already existing from GWR and TFW

Just subbed do you mind reviewing the ap class 318

The 319s work electrified routes whereas 150s work unelectrified routes so they would be unusable
@@somenorthlondonerBut they could convert them to 769's and use them as replacements.
@@MrGriser Not much point when they are very life expired and they would have probably sourced the tri-modes from GWR or 769s from TFW instead

@@MrGriser Is new rolling stock not preferable in that case
You forgot 319005 btw
Oh
