There is another reason which for some odd reason ive never seen any video of... My chickens lay around ten eggs or so, and then they go broody & stop laying. They will never lay any eggs ever again until the brooding has been broken. I have had major issues with brooding hens in the past, & after months of experimenting, i have discovered that their brooding will break if you lock them up in broiler cages for several days. Minimum is 3 days if you caught the brooder early... If you caught the brooder late, then youre in big trouble & will have to lock them for up to 7 days from what ive experienced. Also after a brooder has broken, it will take several days before they start laying again. So all these videos where farmers are saying you must get 1 egg every day from each hen, i cant fathom it.. i usually go by 1 egg per every 2 chickens per day to compensate for the brooders. Though yes, i havent yet implimented this lighting system you speak of, & who knows my particular breed i have is different from the rest of the world?
