Trooper Byrd PIT Maneuver on JEEP LIBERTY wanted for local thefts - Arkansas State Police Pursuit

On January 26, 2023 at 4:17AM, Trp. Andrew Stovall advised that Benton Police Department was in pursuit on Interstate 30
eastbound from Sevier Street with a suspicious vehicle, a blue Jeep Liberty bearing Arkansas AIU06J (V1). V1 was suspected
to be related to breaking or entering incidents within their city.
Benton PD pursued V1 that was traveling approximately 100-mph on I30 until V1 exited the interstate at the 126 mile marker.
V1 then traveled south on Highway 111 into the city of Alexander before continuing onto Alexander Road heading eastbound
toward Vimmy Ridge Road. Near the intersection of Alexander Road and Pam Drive, I became secondary in the pursuit. Shortly
after, near the intersection of Alexander Road and Vimmy Ridge Road I became the primary unit as the pursuit continued
eastbound on Alexander Road toward North Sardis Road. As the pursuit continued eastbound, V1 was driving in the oncoming
traffic lane at several times while fleeing at speeds in excess of 70mph in a 35mph zone. At the intersection of Alexander Road
and Industrial Parkway, I performed a successful PIT on V1.
After the successful PIT, V1 began fleeing again by driving off the roadway through a private property fence and into a field.
Shortly after entering the field, V1 became stuck. Both the driver and passenger exited the vehicle, complied with commands,
and were taken into custody without further incident.
V1 driver was transported by Benton PD to the Saline County Jail and charged with the following:
5-54-125 FLEEING - FELONY - VEHICLE OR CONVEYANCE - SUBSTANTIAL DANGER OF DEATH FD
5-27-505 ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF A MINOR - 1ST DEGREE (FELONY)
5-36-106 THEFT BY RECEIVING X3
5-27-509 CONTRIBUTING TO THE DELINQUENCY OF A MINOR
5-38-203 CRIMINAL MISCHIEF 1ST
5-64-419 POSSESS OF SCH VI 4OZ
5-64-443 POSSESS OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA
27-50-308 RECKLESS AND PROHIBITED DRIVING

I love Trooper Byrd’s service but that cyclist was in the yard on the opposite side of the rode of the lane of travel. How much more off the rode could he be? He obviously heard the trooper coming and switched lanes and maneuvered into the yard, and yet he delayed his pursuit to yell at the cyclist.

After watching farther into the video I realized the the pursuit was coming from the other direction. The same side of the road that the cyclist had moved to in order to be out of the way of Trooper Byrd. I stand corrected.

I grew up in Los Angeles and now I live 3 miles where this pit took place and I agree! We love our Troopers out here! I open carry and they always give me a nod.
California would never let the Byrd fly. They'd clip his wings and he'd be miserable.
California is governed by a bunch of wimps and they put restrictions on pursuits and PITs.

Over the past 6-8 Months I have watch many of the Arkansas police pursit videos and if Trooper Byrd is not Trooper of the year or Arkansas Citizen of the year than something is plainly wrong. Trooper Byrd is what all states should look for for state police and the fact that he is driving like crazy to catch up he takes 2-3 seconds to warn a byciclist that danger may be heading his way just screams "Class Act".
Mind boggling how many pits this guy does. Would love to see his stats on it.

Great moments in Byrd lore: he warns a citizen to stay off the road because there is a pursuit coming, and a fellow officer pulls off to the side of the road when he sees it's the Byrd Man. "Yeah, you go ahead. I'll just hang back here and watch." LOVE THIS GUY!

This is why, I consider the Arkansas State Troopers, “THE BEST”. They are by far the most dedicated, hardworking, enjoyable people to be around. Not only that, most have there uniforms professional tailored and are always respectful. I can say this because I have lived in Arkansas, have met many of them through work I did after retiring from trucking. After driving all 48 states and seeing and interacting with different state troopers. God protect and keep the guys and gals in the palm of you hand and protect them. That is all.

I have warned my husband to just stop the car as soon as he sees lights. Definitely loved that he warned a pedestrian but also loved that he told his partner what they were approaching, such as a bridge with water and train tracks, and to wait until they cleared those areas before doing a PIT. Every time I watch others do a PIT, there are so many where I think, not yet, wait until there's a clearing or no concrete walls lol and also I usually want the PIT to happen of the right side of the suspects vehicle, that way they are forced to go to the right, away from oncoming traffic.

Respect to the officer for not making pit on high speed. He has enough control to waiting the right moment. Before that speed seems to be a bit high for that road profile, however no pedestrians or bikers should expected to be on the road so late. Great job!
