mikael is by far the most underrated metal musician of all time... it's not even close... dave mustaine and jon petrucci and the guys from metallica get their just dues, but this guy may be on a level of his own... not that it's a better level, it's just so fucking different and unique... just a special dude... soulful, melodic, technical, rhythmic genius... unbelievable talent... totally one of a kind... jeff waters is also underrated, but there's no comparison to this guy... everything opeth has ever put out is genius
I have to admit that Opeth doesn't have a SINGLE song that is "ok I guess", everything is at least "wow good song" to "ok I need to stop wearing pants when listening to these gods"
And this guy is humble as fuck. He said in an interviewed that he considers that not a single Opeth record is a masterpiece (what a joke), and everytime he plays something he ripped off (intro of Benighted, Ending Credits, etc) he mentions it.
1- eternal rains will come 2- cusp of eternity (9:15) 3- the drapery falls (14:25) 4- to rid the disease (27:03) 5- the devil`s orchard (33:50) 6- heir apparent (41:15) 7- the grand conjuration (52:25) 8- deliverance (1:04:40)
The best part about Opeth is that it is impossible to lock them up in any particular genre. They (meaning Mikael) will break the rule over and over again and I love them for that...
i dont know what everyone's whining about. Mikael sounds as good as ever. He's just too quiet in the mix, which is the sound engineer's fault, not his.
Well, the TV and video people never really know how to mix a metal show. Keyboards are also too loud. But i actually think he doesn´t want to fuck up his singing voice, so he growls quieter than he sings.
This live obviously didn't get to be mixed and mastered before uploading. All live concert would be sound like this if you upload straight from live footage. Mixing for audience and for live broadcast need to be in different mixers if you want good quality sound. This is obviously for live audience
SETLIST: 1- Eternal Rains Will Come 2- Cusp of Eternity 3- The Drapery Falls 4- To Rid the Disease 5- The Devil's Orchard 6- Heir Apparent 7- The Grand Conjuration 8- Deliverance
Fredrik Akesson will always be one of my favorite guitar players. I started following him since his days with Arch Enemy. The dude has such a unique style of shredding. Very melodic.
Wich other group can offer great prog songs like Eternal rains or Cusp OE , and some of the heaviest and most evil ones like Deliverance or Heir App in a concert? They are unique and some of the greatest rock groups ever.
+Soufiane Artwood It does. It was always pretty bad, but in the last two years they were going out of their way to suck even harder, soundwise speaking. It´s the by far worst festival I ever been to if you want to listen to bands and not be just getting drunk at the campground. The Sound department is mediocre at best and that only If you are lucky.
Really liked Drapery Falls, To Rid the Disease, Heir Apparent, The Grand Conjuration, and Deliverance. Its not that I don't like their new stuff. I absolutely love it, but I didn't realize how much nostalgia was packaged in with the older stuff.
Sound quality experts obviously don't like open air festivals...shit happens. This is the largest metal fest in the world and to be there is absolutely a metal head's goal. Should be on everyone's bucket list.
After hearing all the clean vocals for about 40mins then came Heir Apparent, it sounds much heavier than ever! Maybe the effects of the song lists blew my mind. Haha!
+GuildBankLooter The number of amps would make no difference for the crowd whatsoever, what you hear when you see a concert is generally a single speaker of a single cabinet mic'd up and sent to the PA. A lot of the time it's even an amp you don't see, but an "isolated" cab backstage. So I'm afraid any mixing or volume issues hearing a specific instrument etc. would be down to the sound engineer
When I go for jogging, I measure my time by the number of Opeth songs. Just 3 would do. I used to be in an Opeth cover band, playing bass. Just learning 3 songs was difficult as fuck, to remember lol. Baying of the hounds, Bleak and The Grand Conjuration.
His growls are not actually that bad, but like some have pointed out, the microphone setup and soundboard work was awful, and not just through youtube but according to people who were there. This is not abnormal at wacken. Opeth always played for themselves first, and for Mike first of all. I have no problem with that even if I think My Arms Your Hearse and Still Life was their zenith as a band. Whether they were a little bit indifferent at this show is hard to tell. I get the impression that Mike is a bit resentful and cynical towards the industry and fans at times, but that's cuz he receives it from them. I love prog too but I hope they go back to darker and more gothic roots in the future.
fck, that moment when you have to travel to Germany to show some Latin american support to Martin Mendez. exitos segui adelante y mantene el buen trabajo!!!
You know, I thought the music on Heritage was great (I listen to lots of things besides metal, so I understand if others didn't like it), but all the live videos of Heritage felt like they should know better than to do some of the things they were doing (mainly the lack of piezos for acoustics, and using SEs and modelling rack gear, plus the vocals situation, but also the constant counting of rest beats with claps or drums), and that those things took away from their musicianship. But watching these and other Pale tour footage, it now really sounds like they're on top of things again, and I really want to see them.
So wish I could have been there. went to Wacken in 2009 but Opeth weren't performing :( I so badly wish they'd come to South Africa! If I had been there last year, 1:15:02 is the exact point at which I would have lost myself completely and died of euphoria a few short minutes later!
mikael is by far the most underrated metal musician of all time... it's not even close... dave mustaine and jon petrucci and the guys from metallica get their just dues, but this guy may be on a level of his own... not that it's a better level, it's just so fucking different and unique... just a special dude... soulful, melodic, technical, rhythmic genius... unbelievable talent... totally one of a kind... jeff waters is also underrated, but there's no comparison to this guy... everything opeth has ever put out is genius
I'm in love with Mikael too :v
Alexis Jasso I'm in love with my wife, but love akerfeldt's music
Spiderman I don't think he's underrated. it's just not everyone's music.
Very underrated Bass player....
Definitely
Agreed!
Shaved his head on the sides just like a punk rocker
"Martín Mendez, Como esta??" 50:57
he plays in opeth lol how can he be underrated??
Watching Martín Méndez play bass is better than watching porn.
+racewiththefalcons1 His bass tone is better than sex
+racewiththefalcons1 And Mikael growls deepper than any bitch
+racewiththefalcons1 Dat solo bass passage in The Grand Conjuration...
+Lucas de la Rosa Nothing is better than a good sex.
+jpetrucci Opeth is better than everything
(12:48) - Fredrik's possessed
Then he's back
(12:53) - ...aaand possessed again
1- eternal rains will come
2- cusp of eternity (9:15)
3- the drapery falls (14:25)
4- to rid the disease (27:03)
5- the devil`s orchard (33:50)
6- heir apparent (41:15)
7- the grand conjuration (52:25)
8- deliverance (1:04:40)
Julian Garcia Prolijo thank you
+Julian Garcia Prolijo Gracias :D
+Juan Caicedo de nada ;)
+Julian Garcia Prolijo Your doing god's work, friend.
+dnb47 its a pleasure to help opeth fans ))
The best part about Opeth is that it is impossible to lock them up in any particular genre. They (meaning Mikael) will break the rule over and over again and I love them for that...
i dont know what everyone's whining about. Mikael sounds as good as ever. He's just too quiet in the mix, which is the sound engineer's fault, not his.
sad but not true.
His cleans sound good enough, so it's not a mix problem (both should sound bad/quiet).
His voice is not the same, but whatever, even I am older than I was yesterday.
Still the best progressive metal band, nowadays.
best group in the world... simply owesome.
+daxel kush they USED TO BE before that hippiefest called heritage
"owesome"
+daxel kush best group in the world till watershed; after that they are not anymore...
+diskmaskin8888888888 your opinion sucks.
Best group? Oceansize takes that place.
Fredrik is doing awesome backing vocals!
This band amazes me every single time
my first time listening to the opeth. great band!!!
+deadspartan It really shouldn't be your first. But congrats on finding a phenomenal band, nonetheless!
+cooliocaptin517 yea I gave up on metal..heard Mastodon. ax7. now I'm back...I'm a jazz head
+deadspartan try Porcupine Tree
+deadspartan try Porcupine Tree. you're welcome
+deadspartan A7X is not a metal band
Mike start looking like Santana
A lil bit of santana and lil bith of Dave Grohl lol
Yes, hahaha :-D
hahahahaa XD
i thought he looks kinda like frank zappa now
SETLIST:
1- Eternal Rains Will Come
2- Cusp of Eternity

Çağan Şatana thank you
+Çağan Şatana Oo naber
+Burak Erkeç ooo beyler doluşmuşsunuz.opethin eski albümleri daha iyiydi Watershed gibi sizce?
+sahin cene watershed'in nesi eski olm. en iyi opeth albümü still life bence.
+Çağan Şatana eski derken Opeth artık death mi yapıyor yoksa death temalı proggresive rock mı?
Prog rock, metal, folk, fusion. Very versatile band. Every song uniquely different
Fredrik Akesson will always be one of my favorite guitar players. I started following him since his days with Arch Enemy. The dude has such a unique style of shredding. Very melodic.
The ending of Deliverance is one of the greatest endings of a metal song ever.
they're still phenomenal live...saw them in poland a few years back. I was right at the front down the middle and the sound was incredible
Wouldn't it be insane if Necrophagist made a surprise appearance at Wacken and played a new album in it's entirety hahahaha
that is called a dream
+Sean Parrish a new necrophagist album is a myth at this point
Best dream ever that'd be
That is one beautiful guitar Mikael
has got there. I'm loving the all maple
His voice on the "Ahs" in 'The Drapery Falls' is incredible these days, so much better, and 'Cusp Of Eternity' too
Opeth - Wacken Open Air 2015

03.The Drapery Falls 14:25

Amazing show, amazing sound, mind-blowing music
Everyone is quiet standing still watching the transmutation of metal into art
These guys are awesome. Never got into Opeth until recently. So much diversity. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Dear Opeth ... never change! You are perfect!
Wich other group can offer great prog songs like Eternal rains or Cusp OE , and some of the heaviest and most evil ones like Deliverance or Heir App in a concert? They are unique and some of the greatest rock groups ever.
full of melody! you are fantastic michael.
Damn the multitasking has one hell of a job with these new songs! Amazing performance in the first track!
cups of eternity xD
MattThePenguin addicting song!
Lol
My favorite band And probably the most talented band out there Øpeth
delicious progressive metal band, eargasm in process ¡¡¡
wacken soundboard sound always sucks ass.
true
+Pekka Kaukalo Totally agreed, sounds like shit.
+Pekka Kaukalo nah dont blame the wacken sound department..blame the hippie sellouts in opeth..since heritage they've officially gone off the rails
***** man ; it has nothing to do with opeth . Just listen to for example amon amarth at wacken . Its the festival sound engineering who sucks i think
I was there, and also disapointed of the setlist...
They should have called Guinness Book up, because they definitely set a World Record for "The Most People Wacken Off In Public" with this show! =)
at....28 min......SOOOO GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And microphones as they should be...[from the beginning]..!PERFECT..!'DAM'...GOOD from Damnation
And I haven´t been there T__T
wtf.... theater, cradle, opiumeth.... gnaaah what did I do with my life
Really liked Drapery Falls, To Rid the Disease, Heir Apparent, The Grand Conjuration, and Deliverance. Its not that I don't like their new stuff. I absolutely love it, but I didn't realize how much nostalgia was packaged in with the older stuff.
+Geirlodnir In other news, how long has Mikael Akerfeldt had that same fucking shirt.
OMG I didn't knew Dave Grohl have another project called Opeth
+Berly Tannyono Putra Dave Grohl is everywhere, I thought that was common knowledge
+Berly Tannyono Putra huh? where?
First Opeth album I heard was Heritage and I thought the same thing. If Dave had a hint of an accent they'd have identical clean voices
Cahyo Amiseso you obviously didn't get the joke, do you?
+Berly Tannyono Putra cause I thought you were talking about looks. then I read all those comments about timbre and vocal, yes, good joke, lad.
eternal rains will come \m/ one of the best songs this year
I love how Mikael in every single concert presents Martin Mendez and says a comment about him at some point of the show haha
First time i eard them and woe the are amazing i gonna buy the albums !!!
it's like to hear bach, bee, and brhams in 21 century. Thanks i can die in peace.
Zero bullshit stage posturing. Just totally awesome music.
Perfection at its peak
Axenrot has improved so drastically from Watershed its surprising. Probably the best part of the new album.
Sound quality experts obviously don't like open air festivals...shit happens. This is the largest metal fest in the world and to be there is absolutely a metal head's goal. Should be on everyone's bucket list.
Just got into these guys they are fuckin awesome!!
After hearing all the clean vocals for about 40mins then came Heir Apparent, it sounds much heavier than ever! Maybe the effects of the song lists blew my mind. Haha!
Am I the only one who loves that bridge riff in Cusp Of Eternity? Is orgasmic.
Que riff matador quase no final da música Deliverance! Grande show!
Heir Apparent still reins in as one of my favourite opeth songs of all time.
Spanning music from the 70s to the 21st century. What a variety of sound scapes.
Hey, CanKer, on your song list, it's Cusp of Eternity, not Cups of Eternity, BUT that's kind of cool title, actually! Lol.
Is it me or they are playing on a slower tempo? The Drapery Falls sounded kinda strange.
Deliverance especially... The main riff needs speed to sound really agressive and heavy imo.
They've been playing slow ever since they got Axe on drums. He also butchered both Drapery and Deliverance.
yippie, coming soon to Berlin again, at 12.10.2015 and i am there
mein Hund ist dunkelblau, hahahahahaaha
I love Opeth, but their songs are always so melancholic.
Drums sounds too weak :(
+GuildBankLooter The number of amps would make no difference for the crowd whatsoever, what you hear when you see a concert is generally a single speaker of a single cabinet mic'd up and sent to the PA. A lot of the time it's even an amp you don't see, but an "isolated" cab backstage. So I'm afraid any mixing or volume issues hearing a specific instrument etc. would be down to the sound engineer
+Don Cacha That platform for the drumset is unstable as fuq... W.O.A. always has it like this. No idea why they never fix this problem.
Opeth is not metal anymore, don't expect a punchy and heavy sound from their live performances.
ItsNotaTuhmah more metal 145x than you
Don Cacha listen live album garden of the titans! Best live album ever!
Que dicha haberlos visto y escuchado!!!
thank you for posting!
REALLY good, although they were phenomenal in their prime they still put on some of the best performances out there.
Well friend, had you the chance to watch "Garden of The Titans", the Red Rocks show...now that it's 5 years later. Masters of their craft to be sure.😏
Interesting how both Mike and Fred are playing the Piezo PRS's now...would be nice to have an SE PRS signature with a Piezo :)
Thanks for the uploading! I was there and it was amazing!! =)
cups of eternity what a song that i just discovered !
Keyboard player wearing an Aqualung shirt- YES!
Opeth is the best!!! \m/
Bass is actually pretty simple. Some guitars in some songs are a challenge, like the acoustic pieces of Still Life.
this song makes me fell so strange...
I love prog too but I hope they go back to darker and more gothic roots in the future.
25:23 una bandera de Chile, no falta jajajaja.
Pffff...what an incredible band... everything is so perfect and imaginary
Rofl, the first song is essentially one long sound check before the sound crew got the instruments in the mix at all
Mikael's growls were surprisingly solid.
fck, that moment when you have to travel to Germany to show some Latin american support to Martin Mendez. exitos segui adelante y mantene el buen trabajo!!!
Opeth ... always great !
In The Drapery Falls Axe reeeeally slows down when it alternates between acoustic and heavy double bass. :/ I miss Martin Lopez still.
Thanks for sharing the videooooo..... thanks really..... amazing!!!!
both Opeth, Trans-Siberian Ochestra and Dream Theater live.. fuck, why wasn't I there :D
Wow - Crosby, Stills and Nash are looking great nowadays!
1:10:14 EPIC FACE.
amazing band, amazing songs. thats classical
Dafuq happened with this crowd ?! I would be freakin rampage full of awesomeness the whole time. Opeth is amazing!
se escuchan super bajos los videos de Wacken en general :(
I love the way they have jazzed
25:20 siempre hay un chileno por algun lado :D
+Viborah También me he dado cuenta de lo mismo viendo varios conciertos haha
the solo on Heir Apparent is fuckin shredding
No sabía que Diego Verdaguer cantara guturales
:/
+Pablo Gonzalez hahahahahahahah
Esperndo a los fanboys de Opeth a que vengan a reclamar...
+Pablo Gonzalez ese weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey! ajajajajajaaja!!!!
+Pablo Gonzalez JAJAJAJAJAJAJ!!
Jajajajaja
Damn, that guitar solo at 12:45 is really sweet.
superb video!
Mike is really high ...good for him !
So wish I could have been there. went to Wacken in 2009 but Opeth weren't performing :( I so badly wish they'd come to South Africa! If I had been there last year, 1:15:02 is the exact point at which I would have lost myself completely and died of euphoria a few short minutes later!
I like the double stacked ampeg svt cabs on their side....
holy hell that first drum intro.....
Haha, Cups Of Eternity, sounds like a Game Of Thrones drinking game!
holy shit! they deliver, every time!
Mikael looks just like Dave Wyndorf from Monster Magnet in those glasses! LOL
I think his heavy vocals/growls sound fucking awesome, I don't know what you fuckers are talking about.
"Deliverance" How can a song so long sound so short?
y la gente observa, atenta, obnubilada, hipnotizada...
