- BMW e90 320 d heater core replace plus cleaning air ducts .all the dashboard and subassemblies were dismantled to remove the climate and to replace the heat radiator, the original one was broken, because in the engine cooling system it did not have antifreeze, it had water that corroded the aluminum radiator

Thanks for your appreciation, but you can replace the carpet without removing the dashboard you can cut the carpet under the dashboard ( the part under the climate box)

WOW!! I thought I was watching a chop shop video.
I replaced a heater core on a 1988 Chevy, it was pretty easy. Smell coolant on my e90 when I use the heater, so thinking it's the heater core and this is the first video I have seen for replacing it. Thinking I'm just going to make do without using the heater lol. Using the heater, I had to add water/coolant every 3 days or so. Not using heater, it's takes @2 weeks.
You need to replace it, first thing is not healthy to breath the toxic vapors of colant, make courage and in 1 or 2 days you will be finished
what a nightmare you .. you got lucky in the e90 with n52 engines you have to take out the whole iHka modules assembly the whole heater core assembly!!!!!!grat job bro

Yes you do , airbags are quite dangerous equipment, if you don't know how to work with them you risk make BUBU :))

Hello , yes the bad smell can come from the evaporator inside the dashboard

I think I need to do this?.. passenger side gets warm way faster than the driver side and causes the windshield to fog up.. after about 30 minutes it starts blowing warm from all vents. Would this be a partial plug in heater core or something else?

I cant really see it, but would it be possible to install them By cutting 2 slots in the dashboard frame? I cant se whether there is the proper space and mounting for it...
You have to change the dashboard, you have nothing to cut to make the installation possible
This would probably cost more than the car at a BMW stealership.
I believe bmw charges 2500 for a heater core replacement on an e90. Insane

Hi, I'm not sure if my issue is just the heater core... I have a 320 d m 47 e91 2006. Some heat is coming to the driver side but only cold air to copilot side. Pipes going to the heater are quite hot both. My question is why is only some heat to driver side? and due to the fact that there is an auxiliary electric heater after the heater core, should it not provide some heat even the core is bloqued?

Wow, great work! Some of those angles are tricky and hard to film, but the video's pretty clear overall. I have one question for you: I am getting water in the rear footwell, and I think it's coming from the rear air vents. I have heard that clogged evaporator drains can be the cause, as the water then overflows into the rear vent. I guess you disconnected these drains during this repair, but I wasn't able to see it. Do you know, is it possible to reach the upper end of these drains without pulling the dash? Or, do you have any suggested reference for that repair?
Hi, thanks for the appreciation, in this video I did not disconnect the condensate drain pipes, you can try under the car ,they are above the gearbox
@@MOvidiu Thanks, I will look there. I was sort of confused how the drainage gets from the evaporator box to the under-car pipes. It looks like the under-car pipe or pipes have a rubber grommet that fits through a hole in the body. I wasn't sure if there was a section of drainage pipe inside the car. I just came across this pic which seems to show one single grommet poking up through the transmission tunnel, inbetween the two rear seat vents. (www.reddit.com/r/Justrolledintotheshop/comments/8wkc1p/e90_evaporator_replacement/) If this is the same as my car, then I guess the evaporator box just drops on top of the grommet, and there is no separate pipe inside the car. Does that sound correct?

you can take out the panels under the steering column, then slide the steering column so u can access the heater, my local car dissasebly sellers ask only 80eur for this procedure

A question - are there 2 heater cores or only one.Also I have the following issue ( i have done machine flush of the system twice) before the flush i was getting heat from driver side,after the flush i have heating on passanger side and driver it doesnt have - is that a symptom of the heater core?

With the Heater core, and Evaporator stacked like that, The heater core must not get water to it when it's not in use? is there a bypass somewhere that prevents coolant from reaching it when the A/C is on?
Does the Thermostat control that?

I’ve got a rattle, a loose screw I’m sure, under the top of my dash. This video definitely look the wind out of my sails about doing it myself. Time to pony up the dough.
For the blower u take out the glove part and for the heater the steering wheel anx ax but still they will charge u a lot but for good reason. Bmw has this, pejo for example u need 5 min to change the heater😊

Did you have to evacuate the ac system to do this? I don't see anything under the hood done for this. Anything off camera?
No you don't have to remove the freon from the installation, only the coolant will have to be removed !

Great work on the video mate. I want to know how can you determine if it’s the heater core that needs replacement? I have a E90 and getting hot air only on the passenger side, a garage did a heater core flush and nothing has improved. They’re saying it’s blocked and needs replacing. Can it possibly be anything else? Like a the heater valve being stuck? How can one determine that? Thanks
Hello, the heater valves are under the hood, when they flushed your radiator they flushed it after the valves, why didn't you ask them this? You need to communicate with them

Hello . had the radiator blocked with limestone (had normal water in the cooling system and made lime)
to find out what equipment your car has, go to realoem.com. or you have to dismantle it to see
and the washing solution ... depends on how dirty it is and how bad it smells, if it smells bad, first disinfect it with a strong alcohol, wash it with active foam combined with perfume

This quick method only works on cars with out the insulation foam around the steering wheel. The frame drops down right in front of the heating core to support the foam sadly. Refrence 335i and 328i
I have to do this on my 2007 328i coupe ; so you are saying its more difficult on these as you have to take out that whole metal frame & the insulation part ?
It almost looks like u can get to it just by removing the steering column & all there , ha ?

@@akashaman break the car down yourself and you'll see. The frame holds that insulation from a top and bottom screw. The frame swings all the way to the bottom screw blocking heater core access. This video is useless to 90% of e9x owners. Only the 320d doesnt have the insulation and and the open frame like that. Every higher model does. Look up e92 ac evaporator videos. Its the same steps just taking the core out instead of the evap. You can do the core without evacuating your ac as you don't need to swing the heater box out to just replace the core.
Is can the heater core be the problem of my heater not blowing or turning on I replaced the heater module and heater fan and the Is control panel and it still don't work

Great vid. But i have one ? I have 328i 08 coupe sport, i have sqeaking coming from my dash when i turn my steering wheel it not the clock spring its not any of the steering nuckles it sounds like ruber to ruber squeaking. Do you know what it might be.

Thanks for the video, could you recommend me a website where I can buy the instructions for removing the Dashboard? I bought all Parts for a Dashboard with cupholders inclusive the Dashboard itself. On the upcoming weekend I want to change it. I do not know, if this is above my skill level, but I changed a lot of other Interieur Parts by myself and it was never a big Problem. With the Dashboard I am a Little bit more cautious because of the airbags. Is there something I have to check before I can start the car after I have everything Assembled back on? Like Errors which must be coded? Would be very nice if you could help me.

If water (liquid) is on the floor board, front and bad is it the heating core?
possible, or clogged drain, or clogged sunroof drain ... you need to open and check ....

Hello! depending on the case is not something standard... no heat or a little bit of heat , or coolant lose , a lot or very little , fogging the inside of the windows..
@@MOvidiu Thank you bud. Good to know. I used to think window fogging was a problem somewhere until I figured to just leave my climate control circulation on auto and that solved it. Other stuff you mentioned I haven't noticed. Good video.
Hi mate i have watched your video of changing a BMW heater matrix and you are awesome pal, can you please tell me how you knew it was the heater core matrix.
My BMW E90 is at BMW at the moment i have very slight heat on passenger one vent thats it and i mean slight, i have been billed so far £750 for taking the dash out but before they did that they tried a flush of the core and coolant change but this did not work then i got the quote for £750 to take the dash out to further investigate, i was hoping it was something more simple like the flush or coolant but now i know for sure its not, he said to me at the start that if it is the core matrix then the job is about £1500 to £1600, so at this point in time i am hoping it is the core matrix now otherwise what the hell else can it be, they said they have tested it and it is not coming up with no faults it actually is coming up that the heater is working fine, but im sure the core would not come up as a fault would it, otherwise they wouldnt have tested anything else first, surely they would just go straight to the core??????????

If you don't have heat inside and the inlet is hot and the outlet is warm is clear that the heater core is plugged, this is caused only becouse sometimes in the life of the car some expert have put tap water inside the cooling system

How does a simple heater core like that go bad ? My 2011 e90 stopped blowing heat entirely hoping it’s a blend door or a clogged core at worst
There are many ways, but most of the time the owner or the specialist where the owner repair the car put inside the cooling system tap water instead of antifreeze

Hello, you need to make a complet diagnosis of the car and from the diagnosis report start to repair it
There are two things that you slide out. One is a heater core (connected to the pipes) and the other one infront of it. What is that?

i have a 2012 bmw e93, the heating on my side is blowing hot but the passenger side isnt blowing hot at all, when i turn it to the ac it blows ice cold in each vent.. would you know the cause of this sir ?
Who knows, maybe it's a clogged core heater, maybe it's a blocked flap ... you'll have to go to a BMW specialist to diagnose the car. I'm glad you trust me but unfortunately I don't have the power to diagnose a car telepathically without seeing it :)

I’m reading everything I can to find why I have great heat coming out drivers side and rear vents but cold coming out passenger vents. Some say clogged heater core but how could that be the cause ?

Salut! Am un F01 și am schimbat robineții crezând ca din cauza lor numi bagă caldura in habitaclu( doar cald nu bagă) dar se pare ca alta e cauza!
Poate fi radiatorul acesta înfundat? Când am schimbat robineții am băgat și un furtun pe furtunele care duc in bord și am băgat presiune cu apa crezând ca se curată într-un fel radiatorul , dar degeaba
Dacă schimb radiatorul ala crezi ca va funcționa caldura???

Salut, daca radiatorul din interior e infundat de acolo e problema , dar ala se infunda doar daca masina a avut lichidul racire schimbat cu apa de la robinet sau una din pompe sparta

Salut, am un e90 fara navigatie si vreau sa ii adaug navigatie originala. Ce imi recomanzi, sa cumpar una de pe alta masina cu tot cu bord sau sa cumpar navigatie android chinezeasca? Vad ca dureaza mai mult sa dau bordul jos decat sa decupez bordul pentru navigatia android. Stiu ca cea cu android are mai multe optiuni, aplicatii, etc...

Wouldn't it have been possible/ faster to remove the whole steering console while leaving the dash in? Allowing you to change the heater core without removing the dashboard.
I'm researching this job for my F30. I can't find any videos on the F30 heater core replacement. Most people are still under warranty. The cores look the same. It's probably a similar procedure.

@@cosminplesu5925 Cum am spus si mai sus trebuie demontat bordul scoasa toata clima afara desfacuta bucati si curatata daca radiatoarele din ea au inceput sa oxideze trebuiesc inlocuite , alta solutie nu prea ai , cu spuma si alte experimente e pierdere de timp , cand o sa mai prind o masina si o sa am timp o sa fac un nou clip explicativ

I see. My BMW is doing the samething. It blows a little bit of warm air but not much. Especially when I’m driving it gets cold. What do those heater cores typically cost?

Fahad Aljassem I’m bleeding my system right now to get rid of air bubbles. Air bubbles can cause problems. However I realized my engine is not heating up to proper temperature. It only heats up to 63 Celsius when it’s supposed to be at 96c Therefore a cold engine is not producing enough heat. I found two RUclips videos of guys having their engines not warming to proper temperature and they both replaced their radiators and that totally fixed the issue. So I think I’m going to replace my radiator. I would recommend looking up how to check you engine temperature. There are ton of videos on here that show you how to do it. If you engine is not heating up you might also need to replace your radiator. Good luck bro

My friend replaced his heater the same way but now car no start
He did something wrong, need to trace back everything that he's done and check if all the plugs are perfectly connected and in the correct place, to check if he didn't destroy the wiring in the process!....
@@MOvidiu yeah for sure 🤣 So maybe you would know!? You see theres a cluster of 3 wires that goes to passenger airbag switch off and to the glovebox light! Then there is what looks like a cas wire that he’s got no clue where he unplugged it from

They should make the heater core the most indestructible part on the car so that dash never comes out. The BMW stealership would have charged several thousands for ajob like that.
They are quite durable, don't forget that these cars have a certain age, and they usually break down when there is a problem with the cooling system and owners who cut corners and put tap water that affects the aluminum.
I think I'll just do without the heating 😅

How can a heater core replacement be this complicated?? Almost all of the car´s interior had to be dismantled..horrible.
It's Horfible if you're not in the field and don't knw ho to doit ... like a broken pipe in the wall of the house, you have to break the wall to get to it. like in any other field if you don't know how, they seem complicated , due to the compact construction it had to integrate many components and this was the only option, think that these cars are designed by some professional engineers, and I don't take their side, they don't pay me to defend them, but try to think a little in perspective they designed and build a very complex machine
