This is perfect when knackered after night shifts. I’m new to rowing by a month and already noticed a change in body shape but mainly I feel stronger at 50yrs…all credit to Dark Horse training. Magic 👍🏻
I started rowing because of you and have lost 20 pounds, reduced carbs and rowing every night. I’ve missed a few but I watched your video again today and feel motivated again to stay strong. Thanks man. You rock.
Thanks Shane. Joined you during covid,, then marriage breakdown.. rowing got me through mentally. Kept me going...challenging. it still does. Grateful 16 mar 2024🏖
I don’t know what happened but your videos are great and I’m confident many would love to see you come back. Your sentiment and appreciation for others is very clear. Your love for family. I’m just starting my rowing workouts at 68 years old and your videos have been providing important guidance and motivation. You’re a terrific coach.
thank you for the video. I'm following along while losing weight. Also, it's nice we can wear our Twins hats with pride this season! Keep it up, thanks again!
“I did something amazing for myself today,” thank you so much for this workout, and all the videos to help improve rowing technique. I found rowing a few weeks ago whilst trying to recover from a herniated disk. After feeling incredibly low whilst injured I’m now slowly building back again. Your videos have helped so much! I can’t watch you in the gym so I watch before, program the intervals into an app and then hit the gym with my favourite music. Today I managed all the intervals and it was brilliant to have words of self doubt in my head replaced by remembering your words! Thank you x
Hello Mark Farmer!!! Keep after it!!! Great workout again, Shane!! Thank you! Last workout results: 20 spm but I am a short rower so my strokes are always higher....am I doing something wrong?? Meters 115 +/-3....kinda all over.
I'll use this video tomorrow morning for my workout. Can you please share some tips about losing fat in the tummy using the rowing machine? I'm committed to exercise at least 20 minutes a day in my new row machine. Thanks again! BTW you should have your own app ;)
Always always always nutrition first so start ther eby introducing lots of water and vegetables into your regular routine. Can't ever have enough of those two things :)
I started Hiit training on the rower this week. It appears that I've been doing it wrong! During the recovery periods, I have been stopping completely!! Thanks for clearing that up.
I loved this so much!! Did it as part of my holiday rowing thing... thank you for puttig it together. Eventhough its only online, its great to get a bit of support und praise for sticking with the workout!!
I guess I am about ten years older than your Dad, as I am 84 in July. I row and do other training primarily for fitness, I am certain as you are that staying fit and mobile is one of the keys to a better quality old age. Incidentally being competitive I do also enter competitions for my age group! However one tip I have learnt, if the intensity is too much, DO NOT stop rowing, but lower the intensity for 10-15 seconds, you may/will find that after that short ‘rest’ that you can recover the intensity for the remainder of that interval. Then you really will feel good!
Here’s what I can’t figure out...how do I workout with intensity at a stroke rate of 20? I’m new to rowing and not sweating nearly as much as I did on the elliptical...and can’t figure out why. I follow your videos and appreciate your expertise. Clearly, I’m missing something in the process because rowing at 20SR feels like I’m sitting still...and yet, others are sweating and workin hard. I have a Nordic Trac RW800 and would appreciate any guidance you can provide. Thanks!
Thanks. As a 70 year old breast survivor who is rowing to build muscle and also bone density I love these workouts. Can you speak to bone health and rowing in future work outs? Go Dark Horse. - linda
I’m 51, and experiencing bad knee pain. Dislocated my knee playing hockey years ago. I do a minimum of 300 pulls On the rower per day. (Stamina X - I don’t go by distance). When I row - no knee pain. Afterward feel like I can barely walk. Any advice ?
Hi, there are no gyms in my area with rowing machines. I'd like to get a small one for my apartment, and the most promising in terms of size is a one with hydraulic pistons. Are they usable or useless?
The piston driven machines can be really tough to get value from. If you consider a used Concept2 you can disassemble them into two pieces for storage so they fit away nicely.
I just started to row, I have like 2 weeks, and really I really love it, and I love your videos, I dont have a rower, I'm using the one is on the gym, is not a concept 2, is a water rower but without bluetooth monitor, I just keep data manually. Thanks a lot, really love it.
I enjoy your workouts, but I am not feeling like it's working me ( no sweating, stretching, or burning muscles.) What do you think I'm doing wrong and what can I do to fix it?
Great workout, Shane! I hope this helps your Dad. I use it as a second workout behind one of your other 20 minute videos. A word of advice... the workout seemed a little abandoned in the last 4 minutes. Not so much the talk, which was encouraging, but when it broke away to some other workout result tally while your students are still trying to focus on their final 4 minutes and feel like it matters. Just a suggestion to stay with your newbies! Thanks for all you do!
Thanks man. I totally appreciate your calm confidence, and the fact that you don't belittle or psych your viewers out to get them to finish. Today was my first time rowing and I didn't finish, but I'll be back tomorrow to start over AND complete it.
I'm a stay at home Mom with 2 toddler and have put getting active off for to long. I am super proud of myself for doing the 20 minutes... I didn't think I could lol! Thanks so much for helping people like me get back at it.
Got back into the gym this year after a few minor falls in winter and have started with a 20 minute rowing straight session every other day, changing to daily on the first day of summer. I also bicycle to and from home to YMCA, about 20 minutes as well. I have also added mild leg weight machines though rowing is still the core of my training now after a month with noticeable improvement in balance and strength. Thank you!
I have a history of athletics at different stages in my life (gymnastics, soccer, field, etc.). Sometimes you just need a nudge from life and listen, as you age too. Thank you and might join in the DH subscription down the road but these videos have been great, especially getting more insight to rowing then before now. Cheers!

I have been waiting to get a rower for a while, but in the meantime I've used my bowflex which doesn't quite allow for the fluid movement or a great placement for the feet. Surprisingly this gave me a good sweat. And some shaky legs! Thanks for the workout!
I started rowing today as I am overweight. I finally bit the bullet and bought a rower. I watched a few of your videos first. Im so motivated to lose this weight and the rower is exactly the kind of workout I have needed for years. I subbed and will keep track of all new videos
looking to start rowing but from watching some Concept D video I find it to loud, I live in a condo. I am looking into the new echelon rower since I a rower with a 300lb weight limit. Any experienced rowers have any recommendations? Or is the Concept D not as loud as it seems? I plan to row around 5am when everyone is sleeping
Hi D J - Steven from asensei here. Over time, we want you to be able to get access to Shane's awesome coaching on any device and any equipment of your choosing. Initially, we want you to have a Concept 2 with a newer PM5 performance monitor (you can upgrade older monitors, we'll do a video with Shane on that). That combo allows to analyze and record every single stroke and give you unparalleled coaching insights about your technique and performance. That said, we intend to make it easy for those of you that don't yet have access to the equipment we need, to still follow Shane's coaching and programming. Stay tuned. We're just getting started.

You cant add multiple intervals once the check mark is selected. It takes you to the row screen. If you hit menu the workout is erased....
