After months of working up to it I was finally able to get through a 30 minute row. Your work has been big factor in dropping from 232 to 185 - thank you!
@@mikerob2158 I would say an average of 4 times per week; now I generally alternate between 20 and 30 minutes. After rowing I also go for free weights or resistance bands for another 20 minutes (depending on the routine).
Hi Shane. Got a rowing machine during lockdown and since then you've been my mentor so far. Thanks for all your videos. A 45-60min row advanced row along would be a thing of awesomeness!
Love every minute of your workout! Been doing it in the last 2 weeks. ( first time gym user , first time rowing machine user) for all of you who are struggling keeping the 18s/m … close your eyes and work it by ear !!! 18s/m all the way!!!!! The second you keep your eyes for longer than 10 sec you will get off 19, 16 , 17 but if you just listen to him - solid 18 !!!!!
This is the second time I have done this workout and both times I have slipped into the zone. Everything feels smooth and effortless, but I get off the machine drenched and feeling like I killed it! Thanks for this and all your videos.
I've been doing your beginner videos for the last 2 weeks but I gave this one a try. This is my favorite so far! And thank you for not having music that is NOT annoying.
I'm going to try this. I've been rowing along with one of your other videos and along with eating healthier and other exercise, I've lost 55kg. So thank you. It's also been fun watching the people on rowing machines next to me at the gym trying to row along by visuals alone (I use headphones).
These videos completely changed my approach to rowing. Thanks for making these available! By the way I've never come across a wrist monitor that works when I row. I had to go to a chest strap. 🙂
Your videos are the best. I've done tons of research and haven't found anyone whose rowing videos match up to yours. I started with your beginner, moved to intermediate, and now I'm rocking the advanced. My gym has a Skillrow but I've also been able to use the Concept 2 when traveling and using other gyms. (I'm just grateful whenever I'm able to find a row machine away from home.) Anyway, keep doing what you're doing and know that you've made a huge impact in my life. I'm proud to be a dark horse.
Did this again, crushed me again. Both times the middle interval has been the most challenging... need to work on that. But the tunes on this workout are gold!! Thanks Shane -- miss you!!
This was the best workout of yours that I’ve done. Not because it was advanced but because the format and content was so on target. I’m 64 years old and do a variety of exercise.
I am wearing the exact same watch - the Garmin Fenix 5x Plus! I purchased it for running for which it performs quite well, and for listening to music in the gym WITHOUT MY PHONE (it talks to Spotify, and will allow a periodic download of one of your Spotify playlists, to which you may listen as the watch broadcasts via bluetooth to wireless buds). You are absolutely right about its ability to track heartrate. When rowing, it tends to slip down my wrist unless I tighten up the rubber watchband (I purchased separately for it), but that tends to diminish it's accuracy. I'm glad to see you record a few longer videos. I know the world cares most about 2,000 meters, but I enjoy the 30-45 minute range.
Awesome!!! I did it! I am up to two 20 min workouts per day and I got it today. I think I know how to do it. I love watching your videos. Please keep doing them. I noticed it was a loop video. Kinda made me want to stop but I didn't do it. Got my concept 2, found your training and I am confident I can do this. I need the encouragement. Thanks
Thanks for taking the time to do these -- they're great. Keeping me sane during the lockdown. One teeny suggestion -- maybe turn down the music during the recovering phase so we can get some more of your commentary, tips, etc. and then turn back up during the interval. Again, just a small thing -- these are a ton of work and we sure appreciate it, brother.
A good workout which I've advanced to and done 3 times now. One downer is that it's hard to hear you over the music. Thanks for the direction and motivation!
Not sure anyone reads these comments when video is months old; I just wanted to note the strange paradigm I am experiencing. I believe in the past month my rowing technique has improved dramatically, thanks to Shane. I am a highly accomplished (world top 200 for 4 out of 5 years, best 56th but no Games for me!), and have always rowed on Concept2 ERG (football in college). I am now 62. Best 2k before starting this program was 7:28. Now, I have fallen back to 8 minute 2k in these workouts. Moral of the story may be, I can crank at 7 and 30strokes/minute for one 2k, but have shorty power output so this more deliberate workout reveals i am a crappy rower at correct damper setting of 5.
Im really enjoying this; im 16, and overweight and trying to do something about it; hopefully by the end of the month doing this along with keto ill drop at least 10lbs, I just got back from the doctors for my yearwly physical and im 254, I need to be under 240 to continue my equestrian training. And have hypothyroidism + Arthritis + A very slow metabolism isnt a very good combo for me. I did alot better than I thougght I wouldve
Brilliant workout. Rowed my quickest ever 2km in first and second rounds. Really good channel and workouts are easy to follow (even with a pm3 monitor)
This was straight killer. My natural instinct is to go higher stroke rate, more like 26 is where I like to float, so the intervals at 20 were really good for me to focus on technique! Great work out, thanks Shane!!
Just wanted to say thank you. I have never enjoyed rowing before mainly because I am only 5ft 7 so don’t get the height advantage. But with all your tutorials and workouts, however much I regret doing them during I love it after. So thanks again.
This was brilliant! I’ve owned my concept2 for 16 years any only clocked 200,000m. It this made 30minutes on the rower so much more structured and fun, thank you, you have a new subscriber!
Hey Shane, thanks for the workouts! What is your hardest workout? I was a bike messenger for 13 years, so endurance is not an issue, but I had to keep at 24 for the last 10 minutes of this video to really break a sweat. Thanks again!
Thanks Shane...This has become my go-to workout! I set up the pace boat on the monitor to help me reach my goal of 2000m in each interval and have finally done it! By trying to have a distance goal within each interval, you must maintain your pace for both the 20 and 24 stroke rate. Just awesome!
It was great training. I’m very happy to use my instrument again. I have one comment: please adjust your voice higher then the music. Then we can hear your instructions better👍
I'm pretty short at only 5'6", and my natural inclination is to row above 26SPM and way up to 31, that seems to be my optimum rate. These lower to mid stroke rates absolutely muller me. But I really enjoy them. Cheers Shane
Pretty good rowing. I think you get the seat too close to the feet at the catch. I think you'd be faster over a long distance by not getting so much compression.
Whew! That was a good workout! Been a while for me. Could only do 2x8. Ease back into it! Great job on the visual setup on the side! Sounds like spring in San Diego and winter in Idaho rowing in my basement while you hear the birds chirping! LOL!
Keep it up! Weight loss pro tip: If you get tired of training and are ever considering stopping, as I almost have before, just take more light days, but still row. Just row for longer amounts of time at a REALLY easy pace the ENTIRE time. Do that for an hour, and your good. Light days are always better than stopping! Keep it up and good luck! Long, light rows feel better and still help your aerobic training and endurance!
Thank you for posting these. Bought a concept 2 3 months ago and found your channel shortly after. Great workouts!!! Keep the advanced ones coming! Do you have "40 minutes of work" workouts?
This workout never disappoints, did it this time with a drag factor of 145, my first 8 minutes was the best, got 2156, second round was 2100 but the last round was only 2017, really faded at the end. Thanks Shane!!
For some reason your voice is blocked and I don’t hear your commands but only loud music so I had to put it on mute to follow along thanks for the screen timer. Loved the exercise though. 😢
The adverts appearing inthe video during the workout messed up my intervals on the monitor and put me out of sync with the instructor. Could we not have them at the start rather than during the workout ?
Love the music to follow the music beat. As an old (69) fitness instructor I find it annoying to have background music that doesn’t match spm. Also liked this workout because I could enjoy music and little talking. Tho I often enjoy the chat. I do A-Row-Bics with my water row group using my instructor skills to make an erg session more fun. When I erg at home (now doing Concept2 Challenge) I always use DH workouts and give new rowers your site to learn and progress. 🚣. For some reason this looks like it is from my son (Michael). I’m Karen DeRosa from NC
Wonderful! Did afterwards another 35 min of 'steady state rowing' (Learnt it in 'Launch your rowing') so I guess I am ready for half a marathon (21k)... Would you recommend 2000 split + 20 secs or first start with something more conservative like +25 s? Love the concept of Steady State Rowing, it is so relaxing and good to keep on improving technique! Wonderful course (Launch your rowing) @world: enroll, you will not regret it....
Thank you for making theses videos very informative. I have a few questions about technique and form. I see at the end of the workout you are breathless. I barely sweat during a rowing session. In comparison to when I do 30 min on the stair master i’m sweating so much. I’m following the stroke rate and it feels easy I have it on tension and 10 I’m using a techno gym row machine at my gym. For form is it legs core push back then arms row and push up? Any tips would be helpful.
I was discouraged about using my concept 2 because the pm5 monitor on it doesn't work. Was so happy when i found these workouts, i can follow along and get a great workout in even tho i can't see what my stroke rate is and how far ive went. I can't afford a new pm5 monitor, is there any way i can track my workouts and progress? Can i use a different monitor or is there some way i can see and record my workouts? Im not very technical someone please help!
Would you mind listing the tunes you have on this video. Great sounds to row to on other rowing pieces. Just want to vary the order some. Beyond that great rowing vide. Thanks!
I usually just do 30 minutes straight but I start of fast, I set the standard rowing and it shows 100 calories burned but would I still benefit from the rowing I do this every day I do start to go slow but I don't stop I take like a rest start again till I hit 30 minutes is this okay to do. and should need to move the wire to what I need to lose fat from or I don't need to do that and keep straight pulls back. Thank you your videos is very encouraging to go further Thank you
I’ve been following you now for a few months and rowing along with your videos. Love the workouts they are great and I’m seeing improvements already. One question I have is what setting is your resistance set at on your concept 2. I started at 4-5 and just wondering if I should play with that each week or leave it. Thanks
Little late fir a response, and this is me, a random guy, not Shane, but heres what I say: find out how to set drag factor on rowing machine, then take some strokes and have it display drag factor. He has it on 115 drag factor, my coaches say 118 is close to the resistance of water
I find it difficult to get my stroke rate lower. When I row for an an hour, my stroke rate is 29 p/min. In that hour I clock an average of 14,600m. My best is 15,1...

Patrick Nolan True - I couldn’t hear what he was saying.
Perfect workout, those rest and sequencing stroke rates, changed a lot my perception for the rowing!
Round 1, 24spm harder than 20spm. By round 3, keeping to 20spm harder than cruising at 24. Great workout, thanks for posting coach!

Noted! We're always trying to improve things
Thanks..its october in the UK.. so I'm only sweating slightly ( rowers outside)

Thanks Shane!!…Dark Horse army!!

Yeah, this one is hard, specially as at the 24 spm I manage 1:50, then it’s hard to keep the 20spm around 1:55!!
I like this workout idea! definitely giving it a try

First time doing it - loved it !
Thank you for the video! I just started rowing, is it normal not to feel tired and out of breath. I only feel it in the muscles. Am i doing it right?
Great workout as usual however several ads popping up during workout completely ruined the timing of it.
Damn, this workout was great! The music not so much ;), but who cares...
I put him on mute with closed captions on and listen to my own music. :-)

Great workout. What’s a watt goal during this?
Thanks coach
I dont understand why you doing this, when your sick?... Find your sofa, and watch some TV buddy :) - Thanx for your chanel, helped me alot :)
You're using a high resistance level for this workout correct?
I have only one question. Can I pump up my legs if I will be traning in machine like this
Prefer no music, otherwise fantastic! Thank you!

What’s the resistance supposed to be? The switch on the barrel?
Great work out!!
Big fan from south korea^^

Should do some with rock music like Rolling Stones or Led Zeppelin or Lady Owl
