We are getting to the point where people are making nearly identical games because all unique and interesting ideas are owned by somebody who last implemented them 20 years ago and have no interest in implementing them in the future. The fact that every game is a "clone" of some other game is an ironic symptom of this patent madness. "Everybody else is doing it so it must be allowed" that's what they're thinking.

Fun fact, the designs that Nintendo are currently trying to sue Palworld over are things that showed up first in the Palworld dev's prior game Craftopia, before Nintendo developed them for Arceus. So Pokemon is suing Palworld for something Pokemon borrowed.
Unfortunately, Nintendo copyrighted the "concept of throwing a ball to capture creatures in an open world setting" AFTER Craftopia already did it. Palworld was definitely sketchy for barely changing the design of Pals, but Nintendo is definitely also in the wrong for BS like copyrighting the most generic of gameplay features, especially when they know damn well they aren't the first to create them. It'd be like id Software copyrighting "shooting a gun from a first person perspective" after releasing Doom back in the 90s.

I wouldn't mind all the comments defending Palworld (because a lot of games do this kind of stuff these days) if a lot of the defenders weren't pretending to be blind to the designs or Legends Arceus + ARK style gameplay. Let's point fingers and shame both companies and move on
@@LordBaldyBaldAs a lifelong pokemon fan, im 100% on palworld's side. The last two pokemon games have been non functional trash, and if nintendo and the pokemon company aren't going to give us good games, its time for competition to step in
@@lordyathnon It's not even competition. Digimon games are competition, YoKai Watch too, and I'm sure someone else can think of more. Palworld and Pokemon are different types of games, for different publics, that "happen" to have some stuff in common.
You wouldn't call Mario Kart a competitor of Gran Turismo just because you drive a car in both.
@@LordBaldyBald They aren't being blind, maybe a dozen Pal's are closely related to Pokémon. As for the Legend Arceus similarities, it's hard to argue that when their first game came out years before Legend Arceus, which is even more similar to this than anything else. Palworld is a copy of Craftopia, but more focused on capturing monsters.

As funny as this is, they're just upset that palword was successful so they made a patent after the game was made to maliciously target them which is fraudulent. Nintendo getting caught out here!
Its actually worse than that. The lawsuit is only asking for like 30K USD in damages.
What theyre really doing is targeting palworld to set precendent for suing another company over broad gameplay mechanics. If nintendo wins this lawsuit then the gaming space is going to fucking suffer.
