    Really great, useful tutorial. It never looks right to me to balance the phone upside down, but after seeing this it's obvious this is a great way to do it!

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  2 года назад +2

      Trust me, if you feel the payload is a bit heavy and you’re struggling balancing it upright, don’t think it twice. The video apps automatically flip the footage the tight way up so you don’t actually have to do anything and you’ll view (and record) the footage the right way up. When I use lens and filter it is the configuration I use, and if you use a lens hood it is the only way to do it quick and easy, and probably more stable too.

  • @ilikemyrealname

    I appreciate you making this video. I now see why this gimbal does NOT balance with iPhones using the stock phone clip that comes with the gimbal. The phone clip you're using in this video protrudes out from the base, the stock clip does not. That completely changes the weight distribution causing the phone to fall backwards, even with the one axis (1:54) all the way down and the phone pushed all the way forward.
    Simply put, the G6 stock with the included phone clip is NOT capable of properly balancing a phone. This is why myself and so many others are having issues (and have have been reaching out to you, as you stated).
    Can you link to the phone clip you are using in this video as THAT is the secret to your success and what us phone users need in order to make this gimbal function properly with our phones.

      @SamuelSotiega  2 года назад +1

      I did forget to include that link, sorry for that. I have just added it. I hope it helps!! As a matter of fact, with this mount, if you remove the rubber bits/ feet that hold the phone, you can actually mount the large smallrig case upsude down, if you ever use such a large or heavy case...

      @@SamuelSotiega Ok, so I got the clip from your link in the description.
      Few things. 1) That’s not the same clip you use in your video. 2) The clip in your link has the phone sitting VERY hit up from the base plate.
      As I’m sure you already guessed, this comes with its own issues. Although the clip does allow the phone to sit forward enough, solving the main issue with the stock clip, the height of the phone makes it so the gimbal is still not able to balance properly.
      So…I will have to return this clip but I know even more so what is needed to properly balance a phone on this gimbal. *A clip that allows the phone to both sit forward on the base plate while sitting close to the base plate.

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  2 года назад +2

      Not really. I can get the G6 max balanced in less than 30 seconds. Sometimes I balance it at base before going out, so it is just a matter of a second or two. But what you get in return, in terms of payload and functionality, is mega worth to it. But that is my opinion, and what works for me doesn’t necessarily works for everyone else. But so far, out of everyone that has told me they bought it after watching any of my videos, I’ve never had a complaint…. And it is the gimbal I use with my 13 pro max and accessories, so I am not preaching for the sake of creating a video..

    • @SamuelSotiega

      The lens hood depends on the thread diameter of the lens or filter you want to mount/ screw it on. I use Sandmarc lenses and filters and they have an inner thread diameter of 55mm so I use this one amzn.to/3KhiB55. But you need to check the inner thread diameter, not the product diameter, an important distinction. I am testing 3 more for a video I am developing for essential/ best accessories for smartphone filmmaking, but for now, this one is the one I use, although when using the ultra-wid, because of the very wide field of view, you see it vignetting, so it is only to be used with the standard wide or telephoto...

    As always Samuel, awesome tuturial!! I came very close to getting the G6 Max. Quite frankly, it was a toss up between that one and the new Zhiyun Crane M3. I ended up with the M3, mainly due to its size and then payload. I think that having the built in light was the icing on the cake. 😊
    Balancing the iPhone upside down really handled that lense incredibly well. I'm sure balancing will come second nature once it's done a few times. There is no doubt that the axis motors on the G6 Max are more than strong enough to handle almost anything you throw at it. You have a couple of the best gimbals out there for sure! Thanks for the great videos. I was going to buy a DJI OM5 until I saw your video on why not to buy it, and then after watching your reviews of the G6 Max vs. Crane M3 I wanted the Crane M3 but it was so expensive to get it with the smartphone mount.. $446.. So I figured since I will probably want to use Filmic Pro to film with both cameras simultaniously I probably shoud get the G6 Max because it's cheaper and probably simpler to use. If not for your video I would be stuck with the weird movement limitations and default vertical video. I hate vertical video.. it's a terrible thing that people who don't know how to shoot video started doing with their phones and then these companies had to legitimize it by having stuff like Instagram stories, Snapchat, etc. be vertical video.. I understand it's easier to hold but it is not the correct way to shoot video. Is a reason why movie theater screens are not vertical lol.

    • @SamuelSotiega
      @SamuelSotiega  2 года назад +1

      I agree with you. I am not myself a fan of vertical. The G6 Max is a great gimbal, plus it is discounted at the moment, so even a bigger deal. Honestly, it is a himbal that will still be relevant for years because it is do good and even if they release a new model, whenever that is, it will be more expensive but the basics will remain the same. The G6 Max is a gimbal I can recommend time and time again because it is great value for money, does what is supposed to do, light, and it is currently $199 on amazon.com. Only a few dollars more than the OM5..

      Hi Samuel,
      First thank you for your channel. I’ve been looking at a lot of your videos this morning having found it and I like how you explain things, good and bad.
      I need a new Gimbal for my iPhone 13 Pro Max as the only 1 I have is an old OM 2 and it just won’t handle the weight.
      I was thinking about the Zhiyun Smooth 5, but looking at your videos I notice you really like the G6 and it certainly looks like it has a lot more functionality. I particularly like the digital screen as On my old Gimbal I would get confused about which mode it was in.
      I know the SMOOTH 5 has a tiny display for this, but I like the look of the bigger screen.
      One thing I’m a bit confused about is that you say you use the G6 “manually” though you say you can control everything through the buttons on the gimbal, which is what I would like. So I’m wondering what you mean when you say it’s a manual Gimbal.
      Finally, currently, the Smooth 5 basic will cost me €190 approx, while the G6 will be €260.
      If you had to choose, what would you say is the better deal. I’m only beginning to take filming seriously, I’m a photographer by trade, and would like to use my phone to make short promo videos.
