Gary Peach is well respected. He was a outdoor education teacher at Hillary College back then now called Sir Edmund Hillary Collegiate. I didn't realize he was teaching at aorere from 1997 to 2004 if I'm correct. Big ups Peachy
Stumbled across this great documentary. Gary Peach is a Otara boy, Peach also taught at Hilary college when I was a student there. Mr Peach is well respected in Otara. Mr Peach is still the same, awesome person.
Not much Student management in NZ schooling nowdays could honestly walk around an name all of the students they walk past , We need more teaches like ole Matua Peach
If only these students knew then what they know now what mr peach was trying to achieve and accomplish. Esp for our young maori and pacific islanders growing up around that era was tough and hard out south Auckland. Breaking stereotype and showing our people the right way and how our dreams and aspiration can become a reality🙌. Reminds me of the film FREEDOM WRITERS but the nz/poly version. Powerful doco with a good message. Hope and pray all these students in this clip are doing well for themselves asz well as peach...
Huge Respect to this guy man...a actual teacher that goes around looking for his students down the road, park, home and cares for them...majority of teachers worry about next payday...kudos my man
Now that im older I truly do regret being a pain in the a** to my teachers. It took some maturing for me to understand that and funny enough, my wife is a pre school teacher and seeing the stress she goes through just puts so much in perspective to how I probably made my teachers feel when they got home. Kids if you're reading this you probably won't get it, but don't make the same mistake. Make the most of school cause the real world is unforgiving!
Alicia :( poor girl. She was bullied cos she was pretty which is typical in islanders. Being bullied has to be the worst feeling ever. You don’t ever want to go back. I know how it feels. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone. Hope she’s doing better in life now xx
Really felt for that girl Alicia. I got bullied badly in Mangere and I became a bigger bully. But that bullying was senseless and took years for me to get over. Took many hidings from my dad to straighten me out. I put my head down at high school and changed for the better. I've regreted what I did to others since then. I'm 37 now, and there's many people that will leave the room and avoid eye contact with me for what I did to them as a kid. Bullying is terrible. It consumes many people and needs to be dealt with properly, because it harms people for far longer than one might think.
Having teachers like Mr peach would be enough to encourage you to stay in school, he did whatever he could do in his power to make sure certain students didn't miss out on good education or any opportunity. Treated and greeted every pupil like his own 🥺 Gottr Admit the end got me choked up abit 🤦♂️
The fact that he acknowledges each student by name speaks volumes in itself. What a great teacher. Had a lot of teachers like him in my Christian high school. You don’t realise it till you leave school. That they have good intentions.
Mr Peach is a hardman but only wants what is best for the youth. Gotta love those straight up grumpy guys, they always seem to be the best and the most caringness people when you get to know them ❤︎
MR PEACH actually cared for his students especially for the Maori/poly kids, when I came to Aus the teachers didn't understand what would happen at home but with mr peach he would follow up on it
Unfortunately, teachers like this man can not be taught. They are a one-off unique phenomenon that only comes about through multicultural upbringing in the very same environment they are endeavoring to make better. He should be sponsored by red bull cause he is exhausting to watch!
Gary Peach and all the other staff at this school are just beyond amazing. To do the work they did for these kids are nothing short of fantastic. Sadly the profession is and has been stretched far beyond the limits, and burnout is real
I went to AO at this time, 3rd form and remember everyone in this video. Everyone picked on Alicia because she was pretty and she only had a select few friends. Hope she’s thriving!
My best years of high school and i remember when they were doing these films too 🤣🤣Peachy def was the top dog in AO too he helped alot of us out and we found it easier to communicate with him even though he was strict.
beautiful story :) we need more people around the world like him. When growing up teenage boys need good male role models and being a 15 year old boy and knowing how hard it is, i feel them all. i hope mr peach is going alright aye
32:58 “it’s actually easier to do nothing” bruh 🤦♂️that’s the difference between most teachers and good teachers like mr peach. They wanna do the bare minimum whereas he goes the extra mile for those kids especially because he knows a lot of them are at risk youth.
honestly i have so much respect for mr. peach💯. he is the first teacher i have ever seen care about his students. he puts his best effort in to understanding where the student is coming from wether they are getting bullied, abused, depressed, not going to school, etc, but he actually DOES something about it. sadly, on the other hand, we have teachers that are too lazy to give a shit & only care abt getting paid. so yeah we do need more teachers like mr. peach🗣.
This Man deserves a Gold medal for his resilience, patience decipline and determination to make a change within our maori and pacific island children, you can tell he has alot of Aroha for these school kids and there future and education...we all wish we had a teacher like this man huge respect to Gary Peach ❤️🫡
If that many students are crying the day you leave that’s how you know you’ve done a good job. They wouldn’t like him if he didn’t influence them in some way
Congrats V/P Peach. It seems apparent you’re continuously moving forward. I noticed the young adults you fight for, demonstrate genuine reciprocated respect when you engage them individually regardless of which of your many Hats you may be wearing albeit Vice Principal, Mediator , Guidance councillor etc but most importantly as someone who genuinely cares about each student. That is an enormous achievement which only comes from putting in the hard yards. Upon recognising this I felt compelled to comment on the difference you are making, I sincerely hope your community recognise the level of commitment & dedication you commit to your position and support you accordingly. Well done Sir. The world needs more good men of your caliber.
Wow I support his enthusiasm and motivation to steer these students to stay on the right track. We need more mentors like Mr Peach at our schools today. I also was a student at Whangaroa College early-mid 80's. My nephews children are also students at Whangaroa College today.
Does anyone know what happened to Jesse Thomas, man that guy you can see he was going through some other stuff probably at home, him crying broke my heart. Any updates???
Watching this made me tear for a bit seeing myself and n those kids who seem to struggle with school nd family, but knowing there was a guy like Mr Gary peach taking care of them js heals my inner child😭🤍.
As a ex student here 2006-2010. I did not personally meet Mr Peach, but I think his work and influences lingered on as the school did gradually become better with less fights, people actually achieving etc, (Especially from 2008 onwards). I personally think Mr Williams (The principal) whom also left around 08 if I remember correctly, I felt like he did nothing, was just there for the pay check. Mrs Van Eden and her partner, was also caring staff, which also did wonders for the school. Though I do admittedly do miss some of the free entertainment, aka the school fights that happened nearly everyday in the beginning of the year of 06. This was also filmed in 05 for those who are wondering (Hence I just missed meeting Mr Peach myself), because I remember staff talking about a "AO Movie" but no one knew the title or release date at the time. I only found the DVD in united video a year or 2 later, glad to see this on RUclips now though, brings back memories on how I remember the school when I first started. And to those wondering, AO is not as bad as it seems, well not anymore anyways, these teachers really did care to some point as shown by Mr Peach. I for one managed to obtain my Masters Degree from AUT with high distinction, its just up to you if you want to make it in life etc. Also my friends are doing well in their lives, some are making 6 figures, some are just happy as they are, and I am happy to see all my friends doing well with their lives, and families that they have started, poor or rich, doesnt matter. Just know, AO was not as bad as everyone claimed it to be, same thing could be said about other South Auckland schools, or just South Auckland in general. I am definitely 275 proud, born and raised, never forget our home or roots.
Mr Peach is the bomb, kids need to be disiplined , because they are so naughty at high school. They need to be told off, or they will get a way with it.If you ask me they need to be strict with them , to have good results , positive outlook.
i cant js feel jesses pain through this video , and also his embarrassment walking through the school while crying :( . i js know jesse is a good guy .
