It seems like there is an inverse relationship between how well this guy does a song and how many people hear it. There was real depth that shows up in his voice and he sang with his soul. Rest in peace, Jim
Heard this song from the Kingston trio on my grandparents’s CD. We just wrote “Number Nine Coal” from this old folk song. Jim Croce sings it better though!
I had no idea Jim Croce had recorded this song. As long as people are nominating their favorite versions, I'll give a vote to The Mitchell Trio. ruclips.net/video/rpvAgk8unMw/видео.html

He cot a little bit of recognition, when "Time in a Bottle" was used in the movie, "Quicksilver" a few years ago, but not nearly enough.
I did not know Jim did this one. Very different style than his other stuff. I love it. Thanks for posting.

great song. Even better than Judy Collins version.
He is good but i prefer the angle That Shawn Phillips had on the song ...more rage...
Kinda partial to Warren Hayne's version but the rage factor not as prevalent as Phillips. More of a Bluegrass.
What is that terrible echo
it's to simulate the sound of him in the coal mines
I actually like it. Gives it gravitas.
