Prashanth Neels says Salaar wouldn't be possible without Prithviraj.
For a long time, director Prashanth Neel and his team were finding it hard to find an actor for the antagonist’s role in Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire. Prashanth, in a recent interview, revealed that he always wanted Prithviraj but wasn’t sure whether the Malayalam star would come on board. But, Prithviraj loved the script and came on board readily and made some valuable creative suggestions that made Salaar what it is today, revealed the Salaar director.
When asked the reason behind casting Prithviraj in Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire, Prashanth told Galatta Plus, “We needed an actor more than a star or anything else. We needed a phenomenal actor for the role of Varadharaja Mannar. The friendship that we wanted to show… we wanted someone who could show both the love and the hate in him. For a long time, we were thinking about who should we bring in. A lot of suggestions said that we have to bring in someone from the Hindi film industry. One name that kept popping in my head and I thought was a big ask was Prithviraj. And we pursued him for some time. I thought he wouldn’t agree after hearing the script.”
When asked why he thought Prithviraj would not play the role, Prashanth Neel said, “Because he is a star in the Malayalam film industry. He is not playing the second fiddle in this but… you know how it is. The hero is doing many of the things. I thought that was something that was going to be difficult to convince him about. But he loved the script. I realised fast that he was thinking like a director. He is colossal. He was like the most perfect assistant director. The kind of suggestions he made from a creative point of view. Salaar cannot be without Prithviraj.”
