Really enjoyed this video. All good info and sounds, no fluff no bullshit. The gear was easy to see and I like how you started with an overview and then showed different patches and even made a little track out of it. Very cool. Subbed.
Are you somehow involved with the MS-1 firmware development as well? Any idea if an update is planned for that one, fixing the portamento knob dead zone? Currently, the knob has no effect in position 0 - 2 and when it finally kicks in, it's already too slow for most types of melodies or sequences.
I’m very happy to hear this. I remember you added legato around the time starksys video came out but I couldn’t get the duo mode to work. I hope that’s been addressed or is easier to navigate to when using the synth tool. Great video tho and love my cat 🐱
The latest firmware update broke the keyboard control “off” selection in the center between mono and poly. Now when you turn up vco 1 and 2 you get serious FM which could be cool if that’s what your going for but it will only sound somewhat normal if you select the synth modes a or b. This just happened and it really sucks. Please tell me you see this on your end as well this is a new bug
Here’s the link I made a video showing my concerns. Please watch it and share feedback. Again I believe this is a bug with the latest firmware update. ruclips.net/video/E7mMZI9DBpw/видео.html
I LOVE so much your sounds, your music. I swear you motivate me so much to learn from you! It helps me so much to learn my gear and especially ENJOY my gears… Thank you so much Paolo Big salut from France 🇫🇷 Vinz🙋♂️
How is that you can make any "machine" sound really great? If they sent you a rock to review, I'm sure you could pull out some great sounds out it, with your talent and knowledge. Hours of study and work, years of experience and great passion for synths and music, I suppose. And we thank you for kindly sharing all of this!
No doubt it does take a lot of time and experience, but it's not as complicated as you're imagining. He's just going through the feature set of a synthesizer. If you've spent enough time with synthesizers, you can pretty much get them all (more or less) to do the same things. Occasionally you'll run into limitations, or unique features, but if you know what you're doing, wave forms are wave forms.
@@NikoBased The trick Is being creative, musically speaking, otherwise the "waves" result simple noise, or are musically uninteresting. And this requires musical, or artistic talent, as well as experience and last, but not least passion for this art. Paolo, without a doubt, has all three of these traits, and is also kind enough to share his talent and expertise with us.
@@ollecram8647 I would say it's mostly experience lol. I'm not musically trained, but I know scales and chords and I know how to find my way around a melody. I've always been into sound design, and synthesizers. I've been doing it for over 15 years though. I can get a synthesizer to do pretty much anything I want it to do, assuming it has the required feature set. That's just experience. I'm not some kind of amazing artist or something.
I have one and i like it, my only problem is the hard sync, i think when the two osc frequencies are too close to each other when the hard sync is turned on it sounds like their frequencies start to couple to each other, it kinda sounds like a pcb layout issue, they should have decoupled/shielded the two oscs from each other in the hard sync circuit.
Behringer are terrible at it. Even now they claim that Neutron is Hard Sync capable. I own one. No such thing. The damn thing has trouble staying in tune as is , - in paraphonic mode it goes out of tune intermittently. Tons of software issues where the synth is not detected. It's my second Neutron, first one all of a sudden refused to play MIDI notes with internal patching - you had to patch it externally which ruined potential connectivity to VCA and Gate. I will think twice before getting any more products from Behringer. Even their guitar pedals are low quality. Wasn't obvious from You Tube videos how awful their Stereo reverb pedal is, had I known, I would have gone with Boss. I describe these issues on my channel.
I’ve just bought a Deepmind12. I’m mind blown by this synth. Really mind blown. This is my first Behringer gear and I’m shocked. I don’t understand what’s happening about this brand. The quality is fucking good, very solid. And the price, the price…… Now Behringer is to me the best thing who happened to electronic music… How can people hate this brand? I mean, what this brand is producing is a heaven for people who don’t got an infinite bank account!! How cannot being grateful?
had the Deepmind 12 for 4 years now, my favourite synth of all time still. Just started playing with LFO Phase and slew rate on the Deepmind with great results.
I've seen reviews on this synth. Behringer has come a long way with sound. I bought a Ultrafex back in the 90s and a vacuum tube condenser mic, ten or so years ago, from them. I've never had any trouble with them. Sounds are great!... love it!! 😁.
Thanks for this video. I've been getting good sound effects from the Cat, but have been struggling to use it as a normal synth. It's just a little weirder that I'm used to. These patches were a big help
Still can’t decide about the cat. I have the model d, the crave, and the 101. I want the solina next when they finally release it, and I’ve been craving the vc340 for a couple of years. All my boyhood dreams coming true, thanks to Uli Behringer allowing the masses to access equipment that had until now only affordable to the privileged few. Oh great video by the way Paulo.
I hadn't taken to much notice of the Cat , as I more had a eye on the K2 and the neutron but the Cats have dropped down price drastically here in Australia , I've got a few Behringer things the 3 and 6 faux, and they both are really good , esp the 6 faux it's a beast , I'm a bit spoilt with bass synths as I have the Erica db01 and grandmother , and a Paripi destroyer etc , so I don't end up using the td3 that much , I was pretty impressed with alot of the sounds U got out of this feline
Nice video Paolo! I used the Cat for the leadsequence of my "Losers & Winners"-track. The first melody you hear in it, is the Cat. I will use it also in future tracks. It has a lot of versatile sounds under its hood!
I have one and had a hard time figuring out how to get sounds out of it. This is a great demonstration and tutorial. As usual you got some great sounds! I have a bunch of old synths that I love but Behringer Vocoder and 808 both work great! I'm just happy someone is still making analog instruments at prices that the "average Joe" can afford. I also love the DSI OB6 which I consider to be a modern masterpiece and totally worth the money.
I was told that the Voyatra 8 is just 8 Cats. If that is true, it would be really cool if Bahringer would do the same thing to the Cat that they did with the Pro One (Pro 800)
I owned a Kitten back in 81/82 used to create a wall of sound with the kitten using the sub osc and a pro one splitting the 1 & 2 osc. no found anything that sounds like that combo since. Playing live always used to get a reaction for the punters.. Nice review by the way, I might look into buying a Cat now. Ive been put off before by the other reviews. You were close to my sound with the bass synth patch but not right on it
I had the original back when they were new. A great 2 voice synth, took a little bit to keep the oscillators from detuning when you didn't ask for it - how about this one?

Apples to oranges. The Pro-One is basically one voice of Prophet-5. The Cat has different architecture, features, and sound more reminiscent of ARP Odyssey.
When you try to show the basic sounds of the vco's the filter is cutting loads of frequencies, to hear the pure sound of the waveforms you need to fully open the filters💪👍
Oscillator sync is broken on this thing.. I had to return 2 and every demo video ive ever seen has the same issue.. Glitching and dropouts to the point of being totally unuseable

I love the softer tones this one can do. It's got such an inviting and cosy feel about it.

The CAT was my very first synth. I have always regretted selling it. Nice to know I could replace it someday for a reasonable price. 😀
Paulo and other users, we have re-worked some midi code and there is a NEW FW out the next day or so - some nice improvements
