My god. I'd never heard this recording before and I'm in tears. Just stunning. Exquisite. Without equal. How lucky we are to have been living at the same time as Edita Gruberova and her once-in-a-generation talent. She is so deeply, deeply missed.
Edita G. ne s'est jamais ménagée sur scène. Comme Dessay ou d'autres par ailleurs, elles ont tout donné et parfois même au péril de leurs voix ! Mais quelle technique !!!!
This is just epic and out of this world. Grubi definitely stands on the TOP of all time best coloraturas' ever. Her and dame Joanne were for me the best. What a treat...
Her technique is second to none … she is divine She , and I , we lived in same places, same neighbourhood, in Bratislava Rača and later in Vienna - unfortunately, we never met … she was the age of my mother and I went to primary school when she left for Vienna and when I came to live in Vienna , she was as world star .. Still, in my mind, she is my childhood divine neighbour Her passing left me deeply saddened and I hope that she is in an operatic heaven with Maria callas , joan Sutherland, Christa Ludwig , Monserrat Caballé and Birgit Nilsson … heaven full of goddesses
Edita was one of the greatest of all time, especially in her early days. The voice was surprisingly full and strong for a coloratura, not quite on the level of Sutherland, but still house filling. That top F is hair raising. Brava!
@@yangsimon9080 - Ah non giunge is written in B, so it is no F sharp, but just a very sharp F ;-) It's probably something to do with the recording. Maybe is was done on a cassette tape back then
@@yangsimon9080 - As outstanding as Sutherlands voice was in many ways, I must admit that I far prefer Gruberova's crystalline clarity. I have been lucky enough to hear both ladies "live", and though Sutherland certainly had the bigger and heavier voice, Gruberova had no problem filling the auditoriums. To me, there are coloraturas, and then there was Gruberova on a planet of her own
@@yangsimon9080- the aria is written in B flat, so it is a high F. In Denmark, where I live, we call B flat simply B, and B natural H. That is the German tradition.
@@yangsimon9080 - I heard Gruberova 4 or 5 times between 1980 and 1990, so I think I heard her at her absolute peak. Joan Sutherland was getting on in years, when I heard her. Hers was a "meaty" yet slightly woolly and woody voice. Have you heard the absolute fantastic concert she gave 1883 in Munich with Gardelli as her conductor? ruclips.net/video/hXwtAaJyniA/видео.html
A little to mannered for my personal taste but the vocal mastery here is undeniable. For me though her best work was her konstanze in which she is unmatched totally. The only singer who could have been a better konstanze than her would be sutherland if she had sung the role. Why oh why dodnt she...
I would have absolutely hated Sutherland's mushy sound and lack of consonants for Konstance. It was an extraordinary and rich voice, but clarity was not her forte
@@yangsimon9080 - Sutherland did, however, have great succes as Amina. Sutherland' s chest voice was somewhat under-developped, but, to be honest, so was Gruberova's ;-)
One of the most beautiful coloratura-soprano-voices ever.
Thank you, dear friend.
Just unbelievable singing. My heroine
Fuera de este mundo. La Heroína de muchos!!!
oh i wish i had watched her live... she is fantastic in this notorious difficult aria luca
She was so fantastic in her prime. Exciting performance. Farewell, Edita, rest in peace.
Sie war so gut so ein Feuerwerk in ihrer Stimme!!!

I cannot believe the apparent ease in which she comes in on the high F at the end. I've never heard anything quite like that in opera!
Tal cual. Esa F impresiona por la fuerza con que la suelta. Única, irrepetible...emocionante
Brava Edita! She will always be my favorite! And man... that F!!!!!
Viene de otro Universo!!! Imbatible Vocalmente!!!
Totalmente de acuerdo. Estrastosferica!!!

Merci.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing. Until the applause started, part of me was sure this was a studio recording, too perfect!
Divina!.
ELECTRIZANTE!!!!!
Goddess in her own right
Heavenly!
Mai sentito un FA sovracuto così emozionante
Si es conmovedora, emocionante! Una nota que perfora el alma!!!

O shut this is amazing! Thanks You!!!
RIP Edita Gruberová (born #otd in 1946) 🌹
I didn´t know that She´d passed away! May She rest in peace!!!
Dioss mioooo
Dio Dio 💘💓💞💕Grazie
Grandeeeee
this is the standard
The orchestra was probably tuned a bit high. She’s in tune with the orchestra. Amazing!
The pitches seem spot-on to me, unless they tuned to A442 or something
👍👍👍
Technically amazing but I never found her tone very idiomatic in the Italian repertoire.

Sutherland was cast as Konstanze for a 1978 Met production but sadly withdrew
@Der Freischütz - If you are referring to me, English is not my first language, but just one out of seven
She once said in interview that she found the overall tessitura too high - just didn't feel right for her voice.
Incredible Edita Gruberova! 👏👏👏❤️☀️
