1:31 This is really a nice design in the profile with very good proportions. Unfortunately this comes with the same drawbacks as most rear wheel driven cars. Because the front wheels are positioned so much further towards the bumper a lot of the wheelbase goes into the space between the doors and the front axle and therefore less space is available in the rear for the knees.
Yes. But most people will have plenty of room. This guy is 6'2 and sat behind himself and STILL had about an inch of space. Now most people won't have that situation.
I have 2022 Mazda 3 and despite the naturally aspirate engine which I just love and the lovely exterior, what sold me the most is the interior. Mechanical switches for all the things that matter, beautifully handled leather coating on all the surfaces. The inside of the car just feels great and I am super happy they stay true to this concept even at their newest model. I am not fan of SUVs but this car I would consider for my next purchase without doubt.

What a great review Thomas! Just when I thought selecting a PHEV was the silver bullet during this transition to non-ICE transportation, you deliver a compelling argument for going all-in on electric or combustion due to the nature of the more natural driving experience each deliver. Your live analysis is thoughtful and very insightful.
You will have to consider hybrid cars or electric cars due to the fuel prices these days. PHEV may be an outdated idea but surely you can't go back to a full combustion engine if you look at how unstable energy prices can be.
There are pros and cons for PHEV vehicles. Depending on driving requirements and available recharging options, a PHEV might be the silver bullet. The potential to save a lot of money on fuel costs, reduce your Co2 output while not having range anxiety worries can’t be ignored. The driving experience for any vehicle will vary the same as a drivers style. Test driving a vehicle yourself is the only reliable way to judge if it feels right.
@@1ewi5 Agreed. The latest PHEVs have extended ev only range making it possible to carry out most if not all local trips solely in EV mode. The transition away from fossil fuels will take some years. Over that time, a PHEV may well be a good transition vehicle.
Outstanding review, Thomas! The overall performance of the vehicle you were test driving was superb. I would agree with you that the ride would in all likelihood be more comfortable with 18" wheels. I can't wait until the new CX-70 comes to the US. An in-line V6 and an 8 speed. I will definitely buy one. I read that it's going to based on the CX-60. Beautiful car.
One of the best reviews out there on the CX60, thanks 🙏🏻. Really thinking to go for this car instead of the general German manufactures. Seems you get so much more value and comfort for less money and especially the interior is very innovative, which you don’t see at Volkswagen, Skoda and so

Mazda is one of the best carmakers at the moment. They're all on their own without any partners etc and they're doing amazing things. They're making inline 6 petrol and diesels and because of that Mazda will be the next brand I buy to replace my Mercedes since the next E Class will be silly 2 litre 4 cylinders only.
The shifting to the right is a smart button because if it's straight anybody who accidentally pulls the know down the car is engaged to drive or reverse so I like the shifting the gear know right then down to drive very smart idea.
I would be very careful with reliabilty statement. I owned 2019 Mazda 3 and it was crappy car. So many problems. Totally disappointing after my experience with previous generation. 6 people I know owm new 3 and cx30 and all are unhappy.
@@reign88 sorry for your experience but statistics say otherwise ...mazda reliability is on bar with other japanese manufacturers such as toyota (which owns mazda),lexus, suzuki ,subaru, and honda, and they are considered the best in the industry...and mazda uses the same quality control procedures as toyota.. and it is produced using the same standards in machinery....and it is the finest in the industry and surpasses any european brand with a huge margin and this is a fact based on statistical science not on ancedotal experience !
@@reign88 lastest statistics indicate that the fourth generation mazda 3 has increased its reliability levels not the other way round and it did contribute positively to the overall brand reliability....Mazda is perfecting all of its cars on all levels under the toyota umbrella...and reliability is a red line ....Mazda will be a premium brand with interiors that rivals the german automakers and with exterior design that rivals the italians.....and reliability that is hundred percent the same as toyota....and this is the closest anyone can get to a perfect car !!
I configured in Romania this car Exclusive-line with Comfort Pack, Convenience Pack and Driver assist Pack, final cost 61k €. I believe it is a good price for what you get, even more because is PHEV. I hope in 2-3 years the problem with semi-conductors to be fixed and maybe, we as customers will have lower waiting times for cars to be delivered. I bought an Arkana last year, so for now I don't need another car, but I'll strongly consider it if I'll decide for a second car in my family.

@@c.d.c9425 they've been better for about 5 years now I think. 2016/17 VW interiors especially with the Passat and Tourareg were better than the 2016/17 Mazda interiors in my opinion
@@defaultname01 LOL have you even been inside the MK8? Cheap feeling scratchy plastics everywhere. Disgusting cost cutting going on there, especially in the rear. Not to mention the awful capacitive nonsense you get in higher end models.
Have a 2022 CX-9... only complaint is my knee is always resting or hitting the center consol. Long road trips its gets very annoying. Cant wait for the new CX-90. This CX-60 is beautiful.
This vehicle is too big for me, even so - and considering i haven't driven it, it still is very appealing and i like Mazda's designing ethic. The exterior looks good even though i've often felt that grille is too massive, but it works fine here. The rear light's look like they stick out quite a bit - easy to damage? I really like how the indicators blink-fade, good touch, but they are a little small. I always have the feeling of their interiors are BMW-esque, however the controls & displays are much nicer than the current new Beemers - this CX60's instrument dials look great, easy to read and simple nice design and physical buttons is wonderful! Center console size is a concern. The engines seem nice for this model, i just wish Mazda's smaller vehicles had a bit more poke (2.5L not usually available in UK). Thanks again Thomas & Co for the review.
I am not sure if Merc,Bmw,Jag,Audi,Lexus, drivers would forgo those cars and jump into a Mazda.Mazda must be very careful here not to overdo this drive for it to compete in the premium class sector.I have a 2018 CX 5 and i am still in love with it.Its premium enough for me and people who want an even more premium Japanese car, would chose the Lexus, over the Mazda. The CX60 is a great car from what i have seen here but would like to know the price for it and hope they do not overdo it.A premium driver would never say,i bought a great new premium car and its a Mazda.Somewhere along the line it does not quite fit.Great review as always.
@@curiosityredpill7030 I agree to some extent but i personally can't see Premium car buyers, letting go of tradition and opting for a Mazda. As i said i have a 2018 CX 5 and that car is an amazing piece of kit.I love it to bits but i cant say that it is up there in the premium club, with the cars i mentioned above. Many people love driving a name and Mazda is what it is.Thanks for replying.
I wonder if Mazda is also working on a new version of the CX-5? I have a loaded CX-30 that I love and the CX-60 is a bit too large for me. A nice sporty new CX-5 would probably be great.
Hey Thomas, thanks for the great work. Will you be getting to test the Audi A3 40 TFSI AWD? What's your take on Audi still providing the 1.4 (150bhp) instead of the 1.5 in many markets? Would you suggest a buyer avoid that engine or is it still refined and reliable enough?
He makes good point about the tuning of.the steering and suspension, which will evolve. But mainly the point about wheel size. I had the large wheels with the short tires and I hit a pot hole on I95. The wheel BENT. I had to buy 2 new wheels over 4 years and said no more low profile tires. Even on generally good US roads., just not worth it .
The turn signals that work with delay do not dazzle the person behind and the surrounding traffic (e.g. standing at a red traffic light). Such as by a photo flash. A good idea.
I doubt that the I6 will be 300-400 kg lighter. Although it´s a plug in, it´s just a small battery and that doesn´t weigh that much. I think the difference will be about 150 kg.
@@milanbujna2957 well considering the range it’s pretty big Edit: I just checked and the X3 which is about the same car shaves about 300kg from the batteries
As a mazda 3 owner of 3 years of the latest model, I really like the new tacho. Love the interior and exterior and the physical nobs. Would have just loved to have a cooled center console or something.. Really hope they make that RWD inline 6 as a BMW fan as well. Hope the automatic is as good as the BMW ZF but I doubt it.
It feels like every new car has every system digitally integrated which I absolutely hate. It should be illegal to have so many things hidden behind a menu on a touch screen.
I like your new height Thomas ;-) That's exactly how tall I am as well which means that I will now know right away if I will have enough space on the back seats or not ... 😀
I just LOVE the knobs, buttons, non-shiny matt plastics with nice chromish end-caps. Just look on those climate buttons, how cool is to "use" those phisically, right? VW interior became a joke for me, after I loved the 2010's VW-concern interiors.
15:53 what the ...!!!! What is that whining noise? Artificial? It sounds like a strong mechanical compressor. Amazing sound, at least for the first times probably:)
I love my 2021 MX-5, pure driving pleasure every time I get in it, and the same fantastic build quality as you get in their SUVs. I understand the need for a refresh at some point, but they way they've moved away from the circular front and rear light arrays is a huge mistake (distinctive but ugly) in my opinion. This new look reminds me of a sad dog face 😃
Sorry about my english but I hope you can undestand my message. I have a Mazda 3 and a VW Golf 7 and the BC of the Golf and the ammount of information provided is way superior. I am curios if in the CX60 the distance and time of de trip is still shown just for a few seconds after you turn off the engine: Also I would like to know if you can see the averege consumption separately for Trip a, Trip B and all time or just one avarege consumption. Actually, I'm curios if CX60 has a section of informations like in the VAG BC with all sort of informations like the temperature of the oil, trip distance, the duration of the current trip, averege consumption etc...Lastly, I'd like to know if the BC resets itself immediately after you turn off the engine or ig the BC "remembers" the trip information if you restart the engine in a short time and continue your trip. Thank You!
@@baronvonjo1929 It will be cheaper in the USA, all cars are... but in Europe price wise it's equivalent to an Audi Q5 hybrid or similar. I just cannot see Mazda competing against the likes of BMW, Audi, Volvo etc if the pricing is comparable. That's why I'm keen on what Thomas thinks😉
@@topthecat2259 Price wise I actually think it makes sense. I got an offer on a Q5 with similar specs as what you get in the CX-60 Homura with all pack options. Without discounts, mazda went to 60K but the Audi got up to 75K (52K vs 66K with leasing discounts), cars just got ridiculously expensive these days. (prices mentioned are for the Belgian market)
@@joachimvervliet832 I definitely agree that pricing is ridiculous overall: an Audi Q5 Sportback with everything included is close to 80k in Germany (as per Thomas' previous video) but that includes air suspension. Unfortunately you cannot spec or order an Audi Q5 on their German site at the moment but a fully loaded Q5 without air suspension is under 58k sterling in the UK. I am a big Mazda fan but in my opinion it is going to be tough for them to compete in the luxury segment at a similar price point; it is not a flaw in the car, more a flaw in their marketing strategy. Having said that, a Rav 4 Prime is also 60k fully loaded, so we will see what happens.
Comprehensive reviews as usual. Thank-you. Personally, don't quite like the flashing of the turn-signals hope they can re-program them back to how LEDs are suppose to flash or at least, give the option to change. Lighter coloured interior would be nice and did I understand you correctly, that this is a dual clutch - wet transmission? Would definitely prefer one with a torque converter.
Based on this review, I don't think they should unveil the PHEV version of the cx70 in America until they fix that bouncy suspension issue. That's not going to be safe and it's a horrible start to sell something defective when you're trying to get a new product off the ground. Just sell the 6 cylinder version until they perfect the PHEV. They have a year to get it right.
@@jstrig IT BETTER! You're competing against the big boys now for the big bucks. You can't go into that arena with a defective product. Worse, they could get sunk before they even set sail. But Mazda likes using Europe for their testing
As for Swiss vehicles tax system, pay every year for licence plates,PHEV are the cheap way to have great ICE power...but paying pennies for CO2 emissions 😅 Not as much Eco frendly as a EV, but for my mountain region with few charging stations and low winter temperatures,PHEV is the best choice.🤗
Almost perfect. The only thing wrong is the large central console. A smart car would find a solution to eliminate it completely ... making more space for the driver ... and more air volume to the car occupants.

The shifting to the right is a smart button because if it's straight anybody who accidentally pulls the know down the car is engaged to drive or reverse so I like the shifting the gear know right then down to drive very smart idea.
Mazda clearly surpasses its german rivals not only because of its interior ,haptics, and steering but also because of its superior reliability !
@@khaledali-di9mt I would say the quality went down with the latest generation of 3 and cx30.
Have a 2016 Mazda 3 and its been rock solid.

This is the first video of yours I have seen. Thanks for being so thorough, I really found it helpful. Also, I want to ask what watch you are wearing in this video. I love it.
Welcome 🙏
Alpina it is!
Not a fan of Mazda, but this new generation of CX-50, CX-60(70 ?) looks fresh and practical. Great review.
cheers !
thank you for your honest review.... I'll be looking forward to your review of the 6 cylinder drive train. Great video as always!
Great Review 👍, agree the 6 cylinder petrol will be much better suited, waiting to see you review 👌😊
We ll keep u updated!
I need to check this car out in person! Mazda continues to impress :D
The interior is drop dead gorgeous...
Well done Mazda. For the first time in my life I'd take a Mazda over VW
All current Mazda interiors look and feel better than VW interiors.
Mazda interiors have been better than VW interiors for years now. Nothing new
@@c.d.c9425 they've been better for about 5 years now I think. 2016/17 VW interiors especially with the Passat and Tourareg were better than the 2016/17 Mazda interiors in my opinion
You guys are smoking something MK7 and MK8 Golf nicer than any Mazda. Tiguan and Touareg same again
I love watching people review cars I can't afford :)
Hi Thomas. Like the interesting and “relaxing” way you describe the cars. I noticed the watch you are wearing, can you tell me which one it is?
Cheers! Alpina
Thanks m8 🤗
The best for comprehensive auto info 😅
🙏🙏🙏
was tempted by the RX450H just when mazda strikes back again!
I guess I won't be trading in my tuned 530d for this.. I'll wait for your review of the 6-cylinder CX60 and Mazda 6
It's beautiful! Slightly better looking than the CX-50. The overall shape resembles X5 in my opinion!
I'm glad Mazda finally going PHEV
Love your accent and how easy going you sound Thomas! Love watching your videos :) And I agree, PHEV sounds weird, P Hev is better
😄
If they stay in between infinity,Genesis and Acura price range they should be fine
Thomas misses nothing!
Best RUclips car reviewer.
I wonder if Mazda is also working on a new version of the CX-5? I have a loaded CX-30 that I love and the CX-60 is a bit too large for me. A nice sporty new CX-5 would probably be great.
Have you seen the new CX-50?
@@samuelm5140 Yes, but that’s only for the US. I live in Poland. Thanks for the suggestion.
Another great review Thomas.
🙏🙏🙏
i like the road u chose. 👍
When closing the door, it sounds empty on the inside. No materials for better insulation ?
Hey Thomas, thanks for the great work. Will you be getting to test the Audi A3 40 TFSI AWD? What's your take on Audi still providing the 1.4 (150bhp) instead of the 1.5 in many markets? Would you suggest a buyer avoid that engine or is it still refined and reliable enough?
I have a feeling that the 1.4 will be cleared out at facelift. Australia has received the 1.5 recently.
🙌
Review of ICE version soon!
Still waiting for their 7 seater in Europe 😒
They already have amazing CX5, they should've introduced CX-80 instead of CX-60 first.
The turn signals that work with delay do not dazzle the person behind and the surrounding traffic (e.g. standing at a red traffic light). Such as by a photo flash. A good idea.
I think Mazda should rebrand with a new logo. Something using an “M”. This could assist with their transition to a more upscale brand.
LOL. Their logo is already a letter M.
Loving the inclusion of chapters!
👌
You saying this feels heavy, I’m pretty sure the I6 will feel a lot better shaving around 300-400kg
Unfortunately because of plug in hybrid system.
@@Kanazawa1997 yes
I doubt that the I6 will be 300-400 kg lighter. Although it´s a plug in, it´s just a small battery and that doesn´t weigh that much. I think the difference will be about 150 kg.
@@milanbujna2957 well considering the range it’s pretty big
Edit: I just checked and the X3 which is about the same car shaves about 300kg from the batteries
Best review so far!!
🤗🤗
As a mazda 3 owner of 3 years of the latest model, I really like the new tacho. Love the interior and exterior and the physical nobs. Would have just loved to have a cooled center console or something.. Really hope they make that RWD inline 6 as a BMW fan as well. Hope the automatic is as good as the BMW ZF but I doubt it.
It feels like every new car has every system digitally integrated which I absolutely hate. It should be illegal to have so many things hidden behind a menu on a touch screen.
We love the review. Where did you film this? Would be great you mention where, the scenery is beautiful!
thanks! Sintra Portugal
I have never clicked so fast
highly appreciated! Please recommend our channel :-)
Mazda CX-60 maroon color shows off design nicely ! New taillights look so much better ! Interior looks good ! Slainte' ! Cheers !
I like your new height Thomas ;-)
That's exactly how tall I am as well which means that I will now know right away if I will have enough space on the back seats or not ... 😀
😁
Nice car. Looking forward to the CX-70!
You want good mpgs or not?
Thank You!
Great review Thomas! As tested this car costs 58k Euro. Do you think the Mazda CX60 can really have an impact at this price point??
Yikes. 61k USD?! That's really expensive.
Cheers! Tough indeed.
Thanks 🙏
No, neither converter nor dual clutch, automatic with wet clutch, kinda confusing i agree
I can't wait for a version of this to come to the US as the CX-70
Based on this review, I don't think they should unveil the PHEV version of the cx70 in America until they fix that bouncy suspension issue. That's not going to be safe and it's a horrible start to sell something defective when you're trying to get a new product off the ground. Just sell the 6 cylinder version until they perfect the PHEV. They have a year to get it right.
@@differencemaker242 The American version will have different suspension tuning
@@jstrig IT BETTER! You're competing against the big boys now for the big bucks. You can't go into that arena with a defective product. Worse, they could get sunk before they even set sail. But Mazda likes using Europe for their testing
Thomas - great review!! I like the looks but I hope Mazda gets rid of whiny electric motor noise and narrows center console for US CX-70.
Thanks early review, did you find the steering wheel is as thin as in other mazdas or have they improved it ? thanks
Appreciated! Quite thin but I like that, feels sporty
Great Video as allways thomas! Legroom is very disappointing imo for a car this long…
🙏🙏
Amazing review thanks. I'm really excited for this car
👌🙏
If this is so good, imagine the cx70 and cx90 when we see them !
but he said driving dynamics aren’t that great and assuming that 18” wheels would solve some of the issues which i doubt
@@trippplefive I know , I'm worried that it's,not as smooth on the road as the CX9
Almost perfect. The only thing wrong is the large central console. A smart car would find a solution to eliminate it completely ... making more space for the driver ... and more air volume to the car occupants.
Mazda has the best red, by far.
Just say P H E V. It’s an acronym.
Would love to see your review of the CX-50 Turbo Premium Plus. I feel it has what you are missing.
Noted!
The CX-60 can definitely win hearts even with the small space in the rear seats. Lexus SUVs will have some competition to watch out for
