- The beautiful theme to Channel 4's experimental breakfast alternative. The playout of the programme was automated with strict timings and seemed quite futuristic, but with an ABC1 focus and none of the usual TV sofas it risked lacking warmth and personality. So, as well as Carol Barnes reading news in vision and Bill Bingham providing links out of vision, this soulful sax melody provided a human touch within a sparkling arpeggiated synth arrangement and was utilised in different ways throughout the programme.
Forgot to add that this is the most evocative of nostalgia of all the themes for me: wonderful melody, warmth both in music and graphics and evocative of my youth and outlook on life (girls, pizzas, clubbing and cars).
Loved the business like format of the show too
Was gutted when it was cancelled, but I remembered that the viewing figures were only a few hundred thousand, so I knew it was inevitable.
Thank you so much for posting! I used to love that music and always wanted to hear it all the way through-admittedly I was never that keen on the actual morning programme but just loved its theme and always wondered what it was like played throughout! Now I no longer have to wonder!!
Just returned back to Blighty after 10 years in prison. When I was in solitary confinement, I recalled the tune and pretended to be going to college in my Mini with no tax nor MOT.
I loved the format of the show as well as the theme. Big Breakfast was far too loud for me after being out the night before.
Marvelous theme; haven't heard it for years and it still goes round my head
Memories of sunrises over New Malden.
Absolutely love this one of my favourite tracks
Reminds me of getting ready for school :)
Raph Ravenscroft done Baker Street, the spin off verison Crossroads Kings Oak 1987-88 and this, RIP Raph Ravenscroft.
The Channel 4 Daily was ITN's first unsuccessful dip in to breakfast television it was meant to be a television newspaper
Love this theme 😍
Reminds me of ‘80’s/‘90’s, thinking ahead to that day from very early morning, what promise it had, what would I see & experience....
Yes, those were the days, when we were young!
RIP Raph Ravenscroft
This one sticks in the head. Clever composition. You can even forgive it for the cheesy sax because it was pretty much obligatory at the time! Being a hopeless nerd, I would tune in on the hour to hear the theme.
Um , so did I 😳
Saxophone and relaxing.
Very relaxing!
God that is lovely!
The earliest c4 breakfast show I remember is the big breakfast; this was literally just before my time (but even then we were firmly a tv-am/gmtv household).
I liked TV-am and GMTV, but my favourite was The Big Breakfast!
I also liked The Channel Four Daily
We were BBC Breakfast in my house
Brilliant.
From the twin transmitter towers of the Chrystal Palace, this is London calling.
C4's breakfast offering went downhill when RI:SE took over from The Big Breakfast - and never recovered.
Is that the Roland D-50.
Is this available on CD/MP3 download anywhere?
I emailed you already, +Peter Hicks.
Yup, got the attachments, thank you! Somewhat behind on replying :-(
Years later, but could I have it too ?

@@anorak103 Hi - this brings back special memories... is the MP3 available? Was RR composer as well as saxophonist? Many thanks
