As an asian american, i didnt mind the lack of asian representation on SNL until bowen yang joined the cast. now, im always so excited and proud when he shows up in a sketch
I genuinely do not care what anyones race is at all as long as they're funny. Something Don't like however, is when race representation becomes more important than laughs on a comedy show. I'm not saying snl has done this for asians in any way, but as many funny asian comedians I come across, it does seem a little odd that there's only been Rob Schneider and now Bowen Yang. Obviously, he did madtv for quite some time, but I would've LOVED to see Bobby Lee on here at some point.

But I agree, he has also been in a few other skits without that connotation. He's SO good on SNL, has already become one of my favorites on the show. I feel he can become as big as Bill Hader or Kristen Wiig. He always steals the skit even when he only has a line or two.
He's only been given secondary supporting roles and no characters that could have a reoccuring future. And every thing so far is stereotypical and only lets him play basically the same character in every sketch. Wasted opportunity so far

I was in then dress rehearsal audience for the Sandra Oh episode, and we were all in awe of the intricacies of the show that we could actually see. It’s so interesting to hear Bowen’s behind-the-scene perspective on the bits that we couldn’t!
The Titanic sketch is OSCAR worthy. It was the 1st time I saw him and it was on RUclips. I started laughing as soon as he came onscreen.."this is gonna be LIT!" and boy was I right! I laughed so hard I got hiccups. All cast members are great, and I've watched skits over and over, but this one has me screaming!!!
