- 1st Amendment Audit of Mesa Arizona Public Library. Library staff surprises us. The staff and security initially told us we were not allowed to record in the library. Once challenged and advised of the constitutionality of the act, they properly sought more information from their own chain of command (didn't knee-jerk and call the cops- yeah!) then came back and you can see what happens next!

Love that a supervisor actually CHECKED and LEARNED that policy had changed, and was big enough to come back and say so. Everyone benefits....and how cool that they sell used books!
The policy never changed, she was trying to save face. We the people have always been under the Constitution since 1789.
Lift Up Thy Voice Ministries - It's true what you said about the Constitution, but regardless, many policies were established before the Constitution was interpreted to allow public filming.
For an audit I wasn't expecting him to be accepted later on to record.
And yes; it wouldn't have mattered anyway because it's a public place after all.
@@liftupthyvoiceministries3176 I don't know, she seemed awfully sincere to me. Plus, she was so nice, even when she thought the policy said no filming. What impressed me was when she went to check and came back, much better than so many of the fails I've seen where they won't even bother to look at a paper in their hands.

Gotta LOVE a manager who will OWN the fact that their policy had changed..she definitely deserves respect! And, the low key security officer Kett...what a doll! I believe a quiet library is the perfect place for him...I think if he were to yell, it would barely be above a whisper! Great video!
Maybe their policy has always been that, and maybe she just said that to not show ignorance of their policies?

As a tax paying citizen, it is nice to see that not all of our public employees treat the public with contempt. I wish Polly was in charge of training other public employees in Arizona.

I am retired and I watch alot of these videos..so much more real than anything ON MSM...there has been a change across the board in all parts of the country concerning our first amendment rights..a ways to go yet?? YES..but there is a change going on and you gentleman have been a huge part of it...coming from someone who as a very much younger man defended our constitution (vietnam is debatable but I thought so at the time)I very much appreciate it.
Educating them is the key! You have great manner and presence for audits. Thank you for doing what you do!

Her ability stems from one simple thing: confidence in who she is and what she does. She's secure in knowing that she can be mistaken, can learn and in so doing, she's not somehow "less" of a person. This is one of the greatest audits ever. Congrats!

To the guard who said "you may need permission to film here", I would always want to know if he thinks we also need to get permission to film in
parks, beaches, state campgrounds, or any other place where we are legally allowed to be, where children ALSO may be present.

I used to deliver food to some of the security guards at this library. Most of the employees were genuinely nice people, they don't know much about the 1st amendment obviously (same can be said for most of the public).
Of course, you were well within your rights to film and it was great to see that they rightfully corrected themselves and understood you could film, but I'm mostly glad to see they weren't crazy or malicious toward you at first when they believed you were in the wrong, the way some government employees can be.
I think the fact that you weren't in any way argumentative or confrontational made a big difference.
Sometimes when ppl do 1st amendment checks, they can be in the right, but provoke very negative responses in how they interact with the "authority" figures who come at them with the typical nonsense....
The fact that you were polite and courteous with them helped ensure they treated you the same. It's how it should work and I'm glad these employees were sensible and actually checked and corrected their mistaken views. Still, it really helped that you were low-key and friendly with them, instead of screaming at them about tyranny/etc like some ppl on youtube might...

Wow that is such an awesome library. I would go to that if that was how libraries were here. Very surprised. You were extremely cordial, keep it up. There are many auditors whom are nasty out the gate and escalate, and I find that type of auditor has the opposite effect when all everyone is trying to do is educate people and help others know that filming is not illegal in a public place, nor does anyone require permission when in public, etc. Great job, keep it up

Good work man! I went thru with my go pro and they focused on me and did the huddle of shame but never spoke a word! I didn't stay the long just did a quick walk thru 1st & 2nd floor and made sure they saw me recording them and walked out! I guess I'll need to make another trip!

Nice library! My local one is much smaller. They had nice displays and I loved the used book store. Plenty of patrons too. Wish I had access to it.
