Takanakuy has become a deeply rooted cultural expression in the provinces of Chumbivilcas (Cusco) and Cotabambas (Apurímac). Organized by the alferados, this tradition consists of fist and kick fights between men and women, usually young adults, seeking to resolve personal or family grievances or conflicts that have arisen during the year.
The term "Takanakuy" comes from Quechua, where "TAKA" means "to hit with fists" and "NAKUY" translates as "to do something to each other." At the end of the fights, families gather to share a communal meal and enjoy music and dancing with various artists, closing the event in a spirit of reconciliation and community.

El Takanakuy se realiza en el centro poblado de San Juan se realiza en el campo deportivo de dicho centro poblado, es el día más esperado por las provincias de Chumbivilcas y Cotabambas, es el encuentro de dos regiones. Esta costumbre se convirtió en una expresión cultural muy arraigada hasta nuestros días en la provincia de Chumbivilcas (Cusco) y Cotabambas (Apurimac). Se organizan esta actividad por parte de los alferados, donde a golpe de puños y patadas entre hombres y mujeres, generalmente jóvenes y adultos, que desean resolver algún reclamo o conflicto de interés personal o familiar ocurrido durante el año en curso. Y al final la actividad del takanakuy se reúnen las familias para compartir el fiambre y bailar con los diferentes artistas que se presentan.
Takanakuy es una palabra quechua conformada por los vocablos TAKA que en castellano significa “golpear con los puños”, y NAKUY traducido como “hacerse mutuamente algo”.
