I find being unsettled and tense situations far more creepy than excessive gore, and noises on the stairs have always freaked me out - so this ticks every 'oh shit' box I can think of! Think the low budget really works to its advantage too in making it believable! Also, great observation about it being all the more scary because everything about the couple (especially the suburban location and the convos) are so relatable! Really enjoyed your reaction and commentary!

I know a lot of horror fans have a negative opinion of found-footage films, but to me, this is 100 times scarier than some overblown FX-driven spectacle like Insidious or IT or The Conjuring universe. Movies like Blair Witch and the first three Paranormal Activity films really burrow into your psyche and make you uneasy. The lack of music is key too. Demon, haunting, and possession films do a number on me for some reason, and they’re well suited to found-footage.

Seeing this at a midnight premiere in college; where there are no end credits, just a black screen for the runtime of said-nonexistant-credits was both one of the best and worst movie going experiences of my life. I didn't sleep for a week.

I know you’re more geared towards anime and sci-fi stuff, but I think you’d really like The Haunting of Hill House. It’s a perfect storm of horror and emotional gut punches, and arguably one of the most profound stories ever told.
If you're doing horror movies, I think As Above So Below (2014) would be a fun reaction for you. Or if you just want to f*ck up your life, Hereditary (2018) is the ticket. As for horror series, The Haunting of Hill House (2018) is widely regarded as the GOAT.

Part 2 connects a lot of the dots right before and after the events of this movie. They really should be 1 long movie in chronological order.
The first three films are a great horror trilogy. All the ones after are a big disappointment.
