I was one of those people that said that this wasn’t real metal. It took me three years to come around. Now that I did, I’m enjoying the show. I guess my rebellious, hateful side melted in Babymetal‘s present. Which is a good thing. I’m enjoying the happy side of metal. Which, in my opinion is the best. Great review. Thanks for putting this up and liking our girls.
Loved this review. Happily subbed
This is a very good album, I have had it on high rotation and find something new and bold in each playthrough. I feel the placement of the tracks is inspired and they work to control the pace and feeling of the album.
This album will go number one with a bullet and set Babymetal up for their best year ever.
Agreed! The band have just gotten better and better with every album, and this is set to take the world by storm this year!
@@RhymeSignatures I am seeing them here in Australia on 8 June, as part of their world tour.
@@lencooke944 jealous! I bet their live shows are out of this world!
@@RhymeSignatures Their Japanese shows are big, big events. Not so much the tacked on Australian leg of their tour. It's too expensive to transport all their gear down for three shows.
If you want to see what I mean, have a look at their song "Metal Kingdom", it's from the same concert that you just reacted to. It is the opener to the concert and is on a grand scale.. I hope you enjoy it.
Babymetal, Macross Plus, and Bluey... I think we are 100% in alignment.
Excellent album✨
Nice review.
I haven't yet heard the full album but listened to all the singles, TOO Black Box clips, a few other teasers, and read lots of impressions. So I'm aware just how heavy and crazy some of the songs are. I'm really looking forward to others listening to TOO, particularly if they've only heard the singles, and have pre-conceived ideas.
I also find it interesting they don't consider this the 4th album. Rather a stepping stone to the next era. I assume you're aware, but they are expected to add a third member at the upcoming shows. Likely Momoko who you see in the Light and Darkness MV.
Huh neat! Wasn't aware of this not being considered a 4th album, will be very interesting to see what happens next
Thanks for your thorough review. There was one thing you said that I was waiting for dearly - the songs in the upcoming album stands apart from each other. Instead of the shock factor that the blending of their anime-look, kawaii voices and cute dance moves with brutal metal music, we will now be treated by the diverse ways they can sing and choreograph joyful but still ear-blasting bangers. We are truly lucky to have experienced this insane experiment.
Nice review and thanks for sharing your thoughts on this new album, I'm already biased through the snippets they released from last year but regardless, i know this album won't meet up everyone's expectations, me personally I'm loving every single track since i get used to the edm sound and totally love it, and the perfect blend and magic is still there.🦊🤘🌐
You are in for such a ride, every song is absolute fire, it's hard to pick a favourite, but Mirror Mirror is BODYING me over and over
I want too like this album more than I do..I love monochrome but the rest I'm not keen on apart from bits and pieces..oh well
Fantastic review (and hell did I love your intro!) I am still waiting for my physical records of the album to arrive (hopefully soon^^) and actually listening to it as a whole. I discovered them in 2014 when GC went viral but lost track of them until covid fully sucked me into the foxhole. Gonna see them live in may when they tour with Sabaton and I can't even describe my excitement. Kitsune up po!🦊🔥🤘
Hell to the yeah!! Sabaton and Babymetal will be one heck of a good night!
Thanks for this review !
As someone who closely follows Babymetal, as reviews are slowly coming out (the international release hasn't really happened yet, they are sending out pre-orders, etc)... you've created the longest review so far. In a good way. A thorough review.
1:53 people are still doing reaction videos on RUclips of songs like Gimme Choco, 9 years later, Babymetal is one of the most reacted on RUclips overall.
Their is a reason why this album feels more coherent, it's supposed to be a 'concept album' and it's a side-story, so official it's not even the 4th album, that's something which should be next (because why not confuse people even more !).
The hardcore fans are really looking forward to how they perform these songs live, because most of them say: they sound better live. Their is something special that happens live, maybe it's a bit more raw, maybe it's because they've trained the songs over and over and over again. Or maybe it's just the energy of a live performance.
I often worry I talk too much in my reviews, but I'm glad you appreciate it haha
@@RhymeSignatures Well, your introduction will be a bit much for existing fans, but I think for those who are less familiar it's good.
Good analysis. BM proved a long time ago that they are much more than just a gimmick, but this album is a big statement. My only complaint is that the released singles are the safest/more conventional songs, and that they left the real good songs for album release day, but that changes with the release of Mirror Mirror as a single.
Yeah, mirror mirror is an absolutely killer track! Love that one a lot
I haven't hear the whole album yet, so I can only speak about the released singles and what I have heard from others. But I think the designation "grown up Metal" as opposed to "Baby Metal" doesn't quite fit. It sounds like they went from their starting point somewhere in the Metal direction, which doesn't seem true. If anything, they went towards the Pop direction.I expect many metalheads to be disappointed with the album. Personally, although I am a metalhead, I have no problem with what I have heard so far. It's still unique, it's still technically damn near perfect in all areas, and it's still fun. Yes, I wouldn't mind if it were a little more Metal, but not to the point that it throws me off.
I would describe my impression like this: While in earlier BABYMETAL songs, Metal and Pop (and other genres) coexisted within a single song, now they both seem to fuse to one thing that's somewhere in the middle. Some may perceive that as a negative thing, as the mixture of genres is less obvious and thus may seem less unique, others might appreciate it as being more cohesive.
Appreciate your insight! Speaking from my own view of the record, there's definitely fewer songs that are purely "metal" but the metal that IS there, is stronger than ever before.
Mirror Mirror is absolutely unreal
@@RhymeSignatures My biggest fear was that they would be drifting towards vanilla Metal with the new album, and thankfully that doesn't seem to be the case at all.
@@MacTaipan yeah not a bit of it, the band's personality is alive and well across the entire record :)
👍 👍
Great analysis and review.
I have been a fan since I came across Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK and have continued because of the talent, discipline and humble nature of these young ladies. They are like a breath of fresh air in an otherwise vulgar and self indulgent entertainment world. I root for them and feel like a proud brother seeing them grow and mature.
What is the actually audio quality of the album like? The first 3 suffered terribly from the loudness war
Much much better! The instrumentation pops much clearer, and everything is just better balanced overall
@@RhymeSignaturesGood to hear, it was criminal what they did on the first 2 albums.
I had the impression the single MVs released already had clearer sound, so I expect a lot of the album.
it's not so great, wait for the live recordings as always for the best versions lol
@@hachikuji_mayoi I did suspect it tbh after hearing the first 2 singles. Why can't the Japanese get their act together, perversely the Japanese make the best vinyl pressings but if their studio's don't care what's the point ☹️
Are there any other Japanese metal bands you like? I like d_drive and asterism myself no vocals in these bands
Huge fan of X Japan and I like The Pillows quite a lot! L'arc en ciel too :)
@@RhymeSignatures I just caught Nemophila live in NY. They are worth checking out
@@brianmpetersnyc5 awesome! I'll add them to the list :)
