- The Hugga Wugga sketch from The Muppet Show, one of my personal favorites. According to the Muppet Wiki it is from Episode 118 featuring Phyllis Diller.

When I was a kid, I jammed out to the Hugga Wugga song. lol
The Hugga Wugga puppet seems friendly to me.
Imagine it’s 3am, you here a noise in your downstairs basement, you begin to walk downstairs and the sound gets louder, you grab a flashlight and you are now shaking with fear, you walk downstairs into your basement with the only light being your flashlight, you then hear the noise again and turn around to see the Hugga Wugga jump out and blow his smoke in your face, you wake up wondering if it was all just a dream, until you look under your bed to see the hugga wugga say his famous line and he blows more smoke.
Now, THAT would be REALLY scary. 😳 😬

Frank Oz's performance here as Hugga Wugga was absolutely brilliant. I wonder how difficult it would be to actually *build* a Hugga Wugga, what with the movable eyes and steam cannon....
I think the most impressive part of this is how amazingly expressive Mr. H.W. is for a Muppet. His reactions are priceless throughout.

I remember this as a kid & thought this was hilarious as a kid! I just showed my Son & he couldn't stop laughing!!
It’s a great one, alright. I laughed at it as a kid, even when the hugga wugga guy scared me with blasting the yellow guys head off.

I love the Jim Hinson style in puppetry. What a genius he was. There had never been anything like this in children’s educational television. What a forward thinker.
The Muppet Show was never meant for kids, but yes, I agree.

I would laugh at this clip all the time when I was little, I even made my own Hugga Wugga puppet out of a shoebox! Whenever I hear the song “You Are My Sunshine” to this day all I can think of is the little yellow guy.
"This one scares my son too. He can't wrap his brain around why the hugga wugga guy is mean. He's 3."
And I wish your little guy a long life of not being able to wrap his head around meanness. The world could use less Hugga Wuggas, don'cha know.
The buggy mugger isn't mean at heart. He's just ignorant and insecure. Which makes him intolerant. Which makes him mean. I mean, look at the guy. He's apparently the only one of his kind, his planet's a dump, there is a plant growing in his brain... The only thing that gives him comfort and security is repeating a familiar phrase in a familiar rhythm. And blasting things with fog is just his defense/coping mechanism for when his ASS is triggered. But no, ignore all that and make him the bully. What did the lemon drop guy want from him anyway?

Oh, this used to scare me so badly when I was a kid! I thought for sure that Hugga Wugga had killed the other two! Couldn't watch the Muppet Show without a grown-up in the room for a while after that, just in case Hugga Wugga came back!

There's something oddly satisfying in watching the purple one, after bullying the other two, get his brain broken after he hears singing from the inside of the second one.

This is the reason I know the lyrics to You Are My Sunshine. I had this stuffed flower with a smiley face on it that would play the melody to You Are My Sunshine and I would sing along with it after learning the lyrics from here.
I sometimes get this randomly stuck in my head, and i only saw it once! I think it's kind of scary how his eyes move. One of my favorite Muppet pieces ever!
There's a lesson in this video, and that's that the persistent bully won.

It's a shame though. CCB was really getting into it, with the 'Higgy Wiggy' variation and then the freestyling. Too bad Hugga wasn't ready to open its mind and like, get its groove on man, because they could have gone boldly together, know what I mean? But traditionalist Hugga oppressed creativity instead of embracing it, and that is why in the end it got blasted by the hip new sound of the now, and Cool Crazy Bird got on that train instead. Just goes to show, when you hear that whistle blow, you better be ready, man. Dig?

This sketch never scared me, but the characters Sweetums and Thog scared the crap out of me.
Cracking Arrangement. That contrast and between the Heavy Metal and My Only sunshine is huge, but how they linked it was brilliant.

I'm 15 and I still remember watching this all the time in elementary school and I loved every second. I couldn't ever figure out what it was called so I could show my parents tho 😂😂

Their planet was razed by humans when they were children, Buggy Mugger is trying to make sure their culture doesn't die out or get assimilated by human culture and he's trying to teach the other creatures how to sing traditional songs, so he gets upset when others improvise, as it denigrates his people's culture, the memory of the parents he lost in the orbital bombardment. Then this little yellow thing comes and starts singing human songs, the songs of the people who have committed genocide against his people. He's understandably upset.
