Never seen such doubt Never seen without Forever seemed so right Understand I try Endeavour rests inane Takes us once again... Somewhere in the air Somewhere in the air The world can see a reason I believe The words deceive the reason I believe Heaven seemed so right Understanding lies Hail the fallen grade Praise lamented shade Somewhere in the air Somewhere in the air The world can see a reason I believe The words deceive the reason I believe So you want to show The only way you've known A truth for all who see A cue for all who know
This song is heavy, but at the same time so fragile and gentle... lot's of atmosphere... PL is my fav band, and always will be... saved me many times during high school...
I love this band. with a good earphones you can perfeclty hear every instrument. The two guitars have different sound, the bass is clear voice and drums sounds great. This means be a great band too me.
The World was changed... I started with PL with Icon. I was young... there were young. Where is the Icon, Shades of Gods & Draconian Times? Where is my youth? Its gone. Thanks PL for many years, many immortal songs. As I die...
Okay then, I guess you're right, we're not only getting on our own nerves, but also on other people's, and some don't seem to like that itchy feeling ;-). But I'm sure we'll both keep on thinking and developing on these subjects :-). All the best.
i love paradise lost... they are the most unique band ever... the lead guitarist(he who is a left handed guitarist) is a fucking masterpiece... this is the sound i prefer...
I understand that a lot of metal fans do not feel this way, and just treat it as a form of entertainment, but there are many whose perception of the genre is severely disconnected from reality. As for Paradise Lost, great band IMO, and their new album is good too.
...I'm not really sure about this vid. I mean, I'm not opposed to live footage as a music vid or anything like that, but this is, in my opinion, THE best song on In Requiem, and as wonderfully atmospheric as it is, you'd think a really creative, really dark vid would go with it and not, well, live footage. Seems like a huge missed opportunity to me.
Don't get me wrong, i love metal, and continue to support it, even if, from an innovation standpoint, nothing significant has happened in years, but there is a kind of insecurity with metal fans i believe that reveals itself in numerous ways. The most obvious one being how it's so enthusiastically linked with classical, despite not having much in common with it. But all they need is a few 'trained' musicians within the circle to say otherwise and people believe and act as if it's high art.
We agree. The problem with categorising things is that categories are fuzzy. What one finds to be the key component of a category might not be regarded so by someone else. I mean, it is virtually impossible that we all agree to what the necessary and sufficient conditions of something have to be for it to be put into a category. Is slow tempo sufficient for something to be within the Doom category? Is it a necessary feature? Are growls essential or accessory? Not everyone would agree, I guess.
Great song. In november they're going to play here in Santiago(Chile)with Carcass, and I'll be there. Greets from Chile to all you metal lovers. Saludos desde Chile (sorry my grammar, my English suck)
'Judgement' is good, but 'Alternative 4' is as good as 'Silent Enigma', though they changed their sound towards a more symphonic flavour. I really recomend that one to you too. I agree about what you say in relation to Obituary. I think they prove the fact that speed is not a genre, but a mood, and that Death Metal can convey atmosphere too, just like that rock feel you mention. I'm not a Six Feet Under fan, but it's true they are a good example too. Another example is Gorefest, which I love.
in requiem is an awesome album.....praise lamented shade.......what can i say ......it reminds me of the feelings i have when hearing forever failure.....strange huh?
I agree, but I don't think it's wrong to say that Paradise Lost renewed Doom Metal and doing so invented Modern Doom Metal (and Gothic Metal, for that matter). I mean the use of growls and the combination of a Death Metal sound with old Doom Metal ways. Anathema and My Dying Bride took it from there and gave their own flavour to the genre.
We agree even in the likings, though my favourite Doom record is still Anathema's 'Silent Enigma' (even if some people say it has atmospheric or deathish elements; I consider it to be Doom). I also think most bands don't stick to labels for the sake of creativity, which is great. For example, Bolt Thrower has some Death Metal songs as well as some Doom ones... and some which contains elements of both! I appreciate this civilised discussion, rare in RUclips forums. Thanks for that!
"Though this band isn't bad"?? oh man this is Paradise Lost! Obsiously you have a big hole in your metal education. These guys are the fathers of doom/goth metal.
i agree with most of Surrealistic Evening's points. Metal IS one of the least sophisticated genres of all rock sub-genres, and that explains why it's practically ignored by academics and musicologists. A lot of metalheads play the 'victim card' though, and claim that their music is simply misunderstood, but it isn't. Metal favours the technical over the conceptual, the linear over the spatial, and it's this preference of form that makes it vulnerable to attack from 'outsiders'.
Too bad so many ppl diss this band (at least where i come from)... They deserve to be headlining shows, not playing as a "warm up" band (or whatever ye call it)... Oh well, as long as they keep making music their way, i'm gonna stay happy... their music means much, at least to me (and many more, if i'm not entirely mistaken^^)
the most stages look very similar. Of course they have some kind of difference, and a lot stages look very different, but some are nearly the same. You can't say that really in one clip
Man, you're completelly wrong, there was no Gothic Metal until this band released their first album and gave the genre its name... they created doom and gothic metal
I admit you must have been right about me being a bit unfair, as I was in some way doing the same as you were doing. Now what you say about inducing, I would like to oppose that with the possibility of deductive reasoning. I think that might, in this case, lead to more satisfying results. It would mean to listen first at all times. So yes, I think universal conclusions are hard. We can draw them historically (what has been), but not artistically (when talking about potentiality, ideas etc.).
They originally formed as a death/doom metal band. And they're now gothic metal (cross between gothic rock and heavy metal) so I don't see why their look is all that shocking.
My rotten brain allows me to work as an aeronautic engineer, to play electric guitar in a blues band, and write some sci-fi tales. And yours? Let me remind you that you were the first one insulting someone else in this talk.
Never seen such doubt
Never seen without
Forever seemed so right
Understand I try
Endeavour rests inane
Takes us once again...
Somewhere in the air
Somewhere in the air
The world can see a reason I believe
The words deceive the reason I believe
Heaven seemed so right
Understanding lies
Hail the fallen grade
Praise lamented shade
Somewhere in the air
Somewhere in the air
The world can see a reason I believe
The words deceive the reason I believe
So you want to show
The only way you've known
A truth for all who see
A cue for all who know
There's no genre arguments with paradise lost. They span many, and that's one of the reasons I love them. You generally never know what's next.
