Tough loss for Team USA. Bob Berland showed tremendous heart just making it to this round considering what had happened with his knee surgery. I've just started studying judo myself; and that's a slick move by Peter Seisenbacher (it's like Tsurikomi Goshi or, even though he had a lapel grip, maybe Uki Goshi).
Norman Oro Judo is an amazing sport! We had the honor of meeting Bob a few months ago and since then he has been to our club often to train the kids. My daughter has also had the great opportunity of being trained by Steve Cohen, he was Bob's sensei! If you're in the area of Chicago anytime come visit Cohen Brothers Judo Club, you will meet amazing athletes but even more amazing people!
all due respect it was not Tsurikomi Goshi (He had to have both sleves and do a seionage type of throw for Tsuri), It was NOT Uki Goshi (he had to grab Berlands belt, similar to OGoshi but turn half way and throw if it was UkiGoshi). Seisenbacher was famous for his osoto gari fake or Ouchi Gari fake to Taitoshi throw. This was a combo tech. of faking a back leg sweep and turninginto TaiToshi. Seisenbacher won many matches in Europe with this combo. I remember watching this match hours before the legendary Yamasita's Heavy Weight final. Respect to all of them.
Respect for Borland but peter tried that move at least three or four times in the fight and got it right eventually.. (with half a grip!!?) I think Borland should have seen it coming ..
Great judoka!😮
