“Ben Meets America!” chronicles one journalist’s attempt to understand the American electorate. It’s a political series for the politically homeless-and an antidote to the idea that we live in a hyper-polarized society destined to hate one another.

That ending 🤣 brilliant coverage as always 👌🏻
Were these revelers/revilers stoned?
Used to be part of this group. I live and always will live as vegan as I can. But you can't have a normal conversation with these people about anything interesting.
"To think, I chose this over a chat with the communications department." 😂
This interview says to me that people are desperate for belonging and believing in anything.
I am not religious, but religion has a positive effect on humanity and well-being. These guys are what the weak look like with no religion.
So it’s cosplay for people who like to pretend they care about something. Got it.
The woman complaining about people having so much stuff (which I agree with) was WEARING so much stuff! Hypocrite.
Not to mention all the shit they were selling behind her.
That was one of my favorite parts 🤣. For people complaining about capitalism, they sure had a lot of stuff to sell.
I glad you mention It, I was thinking the Same.
Yes, let's abolish private land and go back to feudalism! That last pink-haired they/them is clearly a great historical scholar to provide such an insight. I do sincerely love these man-on-the-street segments.
Yeah, and it all started with Europeans. There was no class hierarchy or wealth inequality in other parts of the world prior to that. 🤣
I thought back to serfdom for him and most other people.
I hadn't known there were no rich people or poor people before 1400. And I'm pretty sure there were private landowners before then. They had serfs who toiled on their land.
Empty people trying to fill their empty lives with something
it's because they don't have enough stuff
"Are you anxious about the future of the planet?"
"I'm really not." Lol
1:48 - "We have too much stuff." Has lots and lots of foreign-made accessories on as part of her outfit.
Holy fuck😂modern day hippies
Those guys were cosplaying Tommy Chong & Tom Skerritt in "Up In Smoke."
FUCKIG HILARIOUS!! 🤣🤣🤣 YES! Bring on the 1400’s!!
Ben, you said "mankind" instead of "humankind". How dare you! You have stolen my childhood and my dreams with your empty words!!!
Peoplekind
@@icantwiththis Or humynkind! 😉
How dare you!
Anyone read Michael Shellenberger's Apocalyse Never? By the way, I compost and don't love single-use plastics, but there is no way I can take these people seriously. They would have a modicum of credibility if they gave up ALL of the modern conveniences that our capitalist system has given them and maybe then, I'd be willing to listen to what they have to say. Ayn Rand is turning over in her grave!!
so true! Why are they living in America and obviously consuming, taking up space and resources and benefiting from capitalism if they hate it all so much? There are plenty of non-capitalist places, like North Korea and Libya they could move to and yet they chose not to so it's impossible to take these indulged cretins seriously.
Oh, a Tesla! Brilliant!
Omg, I love Ben. That face at the end. LOLOL
Who'da thought we could fix the weather with taxes!? That's how we fixed everything else right?
People living in the center capitalism, NYC, yet hate capitalism.
Let me guess, these people can afford to live there because of..hmmmm, Capitalism?
I sincerely wish that environmentalism was a bipartisan issue. Maybe if the focus was on pollution (many are unaware we have a mass of plastic the size of France floating in the Pacific) and not Global Warming it would be more effective. Or Factory farming, pesticides/herbicides in our food, air quality, PFAS and other forever chemical contamination in our water supply. Fish with high levels of mercury. Lots to choose from.
We’re probably not aligned politically, but … I actually agree with you, particularly on those points, all good ones. Histrionics never serve their intended purpose. An appeal to reason and common ground (after all, who on earth is in favor of that huge island of plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean, among the other issues you mentioned?) will get us much further along. Nobody ever listened to the crazy guy on the street corner bellowing “The end is near!” 👍🏻
@@SamGainesinGboro great, so why the exclusive alt media focus on histrionics? While it's entertaining to see just how insane the fringes are (Jan 6th rioters or blue haired, septum pierced maniacs gluing themselves to famous artworks) - who is doing the work of raising awareness about real problems we face, or working to enact change? How much more energy are we going to waste to show how insane the finges are - they've always been insane.
I’ve known a lot of very conservative hunters and they are concerned about environmental issues. They certainly don’t like the pollution and damage big corporations are doing to the environment. There is far more common ground than each side thinks they have, it’s the cultural differences on other issues that seems to prevent them from working with each other.
Lifelong democrat here… But what Olin the world has happened to the left in this country????
I just watched an interview with Brianna Wu on Triggernometry where she made much the same point. Even though she and I come from very different perspectives, I found myself saying “yes, exactly!” to much she had to say. I recommend it if you haven’t already seen it.
By the way, I’m a conservative Christian, but my mom and sisters are, like you, lifelong Democrats. We not only get along, but love each other. Here’s hoping that spreads!
Blessings to you and your loved ones! 👍🏻
@@SamGainesinGboro To my mind, there is no reason why Democrats and Christians *must* be at odds. There will be areas of disagreement, yes, but even if we only agree on, say, 20% of issues, there is a lot we can get done in that 20%.
lol.. hilarious. Unfortunately these people get to vote.
Clowns
Most of us "so-called Hippies" from the 60's & 70's ..grew up...Most of us!
Sadly I was oine - quickly grew out of it thank God
That’s some good reporting.
Oh my gosh that last fellow with the pink hair was hilarious!!
This made my Monday! Thank you!!😊
Ben, you are the best. Your contributions make me smile and make me believe all is going to be ok. Thank you.
Sounds like these people would have been right at home with Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge.
Yup, they are all authoritarians shrieking "live the way I say. Adopt my values". Always followed by threats.
Zombies😂
The problem is they do believe those things.
Wait, I thought I moved out of New York....
2:47 - these two guys are comedy team. They look like Cheech & Chong.
How could anyone kick out Ben? He's the best. Oh, wait...look at where he's at.
There is no climate crisis. Biggest grift going.
That’s was very interesting and enjoyable. Thx.
“Oooo a Tesla” 😂
I love this man
If you were high, then it would have made total sense
BRING THE GAY THUNDER!!!
Respectfully, the interviewer's affect and attitude were not good. I wouldn't want to talk to him either. The organization he was talking to is ridiculous. But how does approaching them with that type of affect accomplish anything?
I'm referring to the first half of the video, I found him difficult to continue to watch. There is a kind of edge of snark and condescension, if someone with that affect or style approached me to talk about something I care about I probably wouldn't want to talk to him.
I am a subscriber and a supporter of the Free Press but I think it's important point this out.
I feel bad for you many times during this video, but I love it. Many of these people seem lost in life and are just looking to be part of a friend group (however bad their taste) Can't they just say that and dispense with the lecturing? I wish.
People complaining about big corporations are not aware that the biggest, most powerful corporation in the USA is the Federal government.
Ben's interviewing style really is brilliant. He keeps it light and humerous, and in doing so, gets people to engage on contentious issues. These issues shouldn't be contentious, but that is our current reality.
Wow, the last guy wants to take us back to a time where only 50% of children make it to adulthood.
Many animals have a concept of private ownership. My dogs have their favorite toys that they do or don't like to share and will sometimes hide from other dogs. Animals have preferred hunting grounds that they do not like to share. Birds build nests that they protect from other birds. I've seen videos of fish with similar behaviors. So why is it bad for humans to also share these innate and genetic behaviors? Squirrels do this, cats do this.
Excellent points!! 👍🏻
Capitalism stole my virginity
Amazing
"We have too much stuff". Says the lady with like 50 necklaces on. Haha
I mean, they are correct in that we are running head-long into mass catastrophe, but the capitalism argument is extremely reductive. The Euro branch of Extinction Rebellion at least seem to have their shit together. Why do we make everything in the US about cosplay??
There isn't an ounce of evidence that we are "running head-long into mass catastrophe".
Ben, thank you for being funny.
We need more fossil fuels, not less.
so funny!! thankyou ❤🎉❤
A rich and valuable culture
I missed the part where he got kicked out 🤷♀️
Fair! I was in fact asked to leave. We shoulda kept it in!
TRUSTAFARIANS
When was Ben kicked out? Aside from the odd and extreme commentary, it seemed like a fun event
Climates change. Got it.
😂
Love the "helpful warning" RUclips provides above the description box of this video (cue eyeroll).
Nice attempt to copy every field piece the daily show has ever did. Also liked the fact you're charcaturising a somewhat eccentric group of people for caring about their environment. That's a big win for you isn't it? I bet you don't have the balls to have an interview with a scientists that study climate change.
Hello, ad hominem bot.
@@markrico1917 how dare you 😉
Agreed. I appreciate that Bari has a good sense of humor (see the TGIF essays on the website) but I do not find this guy to be funny. Comedians have a code, don’t steal other comedians material, and this guy breaks the code with every episode. He’s a patronizing comedy thief.
Apparently you don't follow this platform if you think it's a partisan smear against the left.
