LYRICS:
El Viejo, friend of mine
I think you left us just in time
They're outta vodka, no more wine
I think you left us just in time
You know I hate to see you leave
But it ain't no secret you believed
You was meant for earlier days
Wilder times and a freer range
So old compadre Lord I know
You was likely glad to go
I hope it's easier in time
For those of us you left behind
They ain't dealin' blackjack down at Stockmen’s in Nevada anymore
And they'd wanna pay you six to five and that ain’t hardly worth playin' for
All’s I seen was slot machines from wall to wall the whole casino floor
Nobody hittin’ seventeen playin' against the dealer that's for sure (rest assured)
(Nobody hittin’ seventeen and worse yet the Commercial's closed its doors)
Mi amigo, mon ami
Elko blues, indeed
You know we did the best we could
But the shine was off the wood
We played up most all of your songs
But with you and Don and Baxter gone
That sure leaves some boots to fill
And I’m not sure we ever will
But on a slightly brighter side
The Outside Circle guys
They’re still tearin’ up the Star
And Capriola's ain't that far
They ain't dealin' blackjack down at Stockmen’s in Nevada anymore
And they'd wanna pay you six to five and that ain’t hardly worth playin' for
All’s I seen was slot machines from wall to wall the whole casino floor
Nobody hittin’ seventeen playin' against the dealer that's for sure (rest assured)
(Nobody hittin’ seventeen and worse yet the Commercial's closed its doors)

To the 33 of us who have already listened to this a thousand times here's to you and Ian!
Make that 34 ❤
At least a thousand. ❤
"Wanna hear my new song?" "Not particularly". Priceless.
Well, I'm an official mess. I haven't teared up that much to any one of your songs Corb. This one's a gem, and a real tribute to one of the largest legends in country music the world has seen. The Southern Rockies are my home, and you pay such a tribute to them. This land gets in your blood, and you and Ian wrote that into your songs. Thanks Corb. We'll be seeing you at the Grey Eagle on March 7th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Corb, thanks for the song. You knew Mr. Tyson as a friend, we knew him and Mr. Edward's through his music and Mr. Black through his poetry and the back page of Western Horseman. We lost some amazing men. You're doing a damn fine job of filling some boots. I hope we're still listening to your songs when you are in your 80s. Hat's off you!
Truer words never sung . Ian, Don, and Baxter are looking down smiling.
I’m not sure where they went, but I’m guessing the stories are memorable, horses are good and the cattle are fat.
If you made your living off the land then “On the edge of common sense” may have been the most important article in the farm and ranch paper. It helped us relax and have a good laugh at ourselves.
I think of that Old Coyote ,Ian Tyson often . I rarely drive through Longview without thinking of him.... Driving west on Coal Trail , thinking of Live at Longview. Thinking about hiking with my dog West of Hogg Park along the high cliffs above the Highwood River towards the mountains the day he died. CKUA playing tribute set to Ian Tyson. I lingered in my truck listening as Dog wandered and circled the truck saying lets go... lets hit the trail.I spent a wee moment or two sitting looking west up the River valley , watching the Sun sink slowly into the Rockies. Thinking this was The Old Coyotes back yard.I was hopping he was with his Coyote Queen . Dog my Coyote Dog Rescue off the Reservation and I headed back to 4X4 went to Town . I dropped in to The Longview Bar had a couple of Beers , bought some whiskey shots for the few patrons there , Toasted and leaving stopped in for some Longview Beef Jerky. Dog always insists. In life as we live we need to look for it;s ''Gifts" Great song as always by the way.. I will wave at The Grey Eagles Calgary Show Senior Corb.
Thank you for honouring Ian Tyson.❤
I think Ian would have loved this. Well done, Corb.
Damn. What a beautiful tribute to our late, great Canadian cowboy poet. Coming straight from the heart of another great Canadian cowboy poet. You've outdone yourself with this one Corb. 👏👏🍁
Beautiful tribute to Ian Tyson ❤️🌹
What a great song. very fitting for a guy like Ian Tysan---One of the best cowboy singers there is and was Thanks Corb
I had the fortune of seeing Ian & Corb in Vancouver. Great show
Here is a song that had to be written and sung by somebody....Im glad it was you Corb. Its a tribute to a Canadian Icon like no other, a masterpiece for the Master. Great work Corb.
I miss his music like mad. And Baxter humor, too. Lot of wisdom in those songs of Ian's and Black's poems. And thank you for the respect you show to them.
R.I.P. Ian, thank you Corb. Boots will never be filled.
I'm from southern Alberta, and Ian was one of my ranching heroes! We will miss him - a troubadour and a true cowboy!!
Ride on... well done Corb
For what it's worth, the Commercial has reopened as a floor for kids: mini golf, arcade games, pictures with Santa for the kids. They still have the bear. Time goes on.
I wish everyone who reads this clear blue skies and fourteen inches of rain.
He's riding better horses now… In golden fields. 🥰
Rip to a legend. Now you gotta carry that western torch for us in Alberta, Corb
Thanks for writing this tribute to this legendary Singer who taught me so much about Cowboying. My heart ached for him, and he is truly a Canadian Legend. Descanse en paz Ian. :(
This song reminds me of a meme after David Bowie died about how extraordinary it is/has been to exist during the same time and in a world when a musician gave so much. It's such a gift. Especially if we can take in the ride while we are riding. Ian Tyson gave this life so much. Thank you Corb for this tribute to your friend and mentor. ❤️
What a beaut. What a tribute.
Thank You Corb, for sharing your friend Mr. Tyson with us. I’m so grateful that you had the opportunity to not only meet him, but to spend precious time together. Your reverence for Ian is well placed.
Bless’ns, Tedd
My uncle was my Obi-Wan, my Yoda, and my friend. I'd like to think he left us just in time, to go play his guitar in the great beyond.
I saw Ian Tyson shortly befor his voice went. Some guy kept yelling Bob Fudge. Ian called him out saying "I dont take dictations, you yell that again and we arn't playing it" pretty sure the guy got lynched after the show.
It was an honor to shake his hand.
Thank you for the song, you were the right person to sing it.
Was the highlight of my night, near a year ago with the Orchestra in Calgary.
I was there, too. So touching. 😢 Poignant.
That's a beautiful tribute and song Corb. Thanks so much for carrying the torch.
Great song, great tribute, I can hear him singing that.
Well Done, Corb you keep singing them like that.
Thank You Corb for this WONDERFUL Tribute!!!
Love this tune!
Dammit, you got me misty eyed on this one.
That is a great tribute, BZ!
Best song to wake up to this morning. All the best to you and your band. Oklahoma appreciates you!

Nice song, Corb! ,a touching video ,as well.
Beautiful stuff, Corb.
Listening from Elko, NV. Great tribute, thanks.
The wild rag got me
Thank you for doing this, Corb. I’ve got a little tear in my eyes. I passed Ian and his band, playing Someday Soon in the exhibit hall on the last night of the Cutting Futurity back in 2008.. No one around but some folks cleaning up, and I wish I would have gone up and shook his hand, but I didn’t know at the time who I was in the presence of. I regret that day, but Here’s to you, great son of Alberta!
Excellent guitar playing on this song, guys!!!
Yeah, they aren’t making any more Ian Tysons. Great tribute.
Nicely done, Corb!
Lovely tribute to a Canadian Music Legend.
I was witness to the times in Elko. It was very cool to be there. I can't imagine the rest, even though I heard the stories. Thanks Corb.
Terrific performance, great lyrics....
Thanks alot partner I needed that
"Stockmen's" reffered to in this song is Stockmen's Casino in Elko, Nevada. A sad sign of the times that the casino has switched from in-person poker games to electronic slot machines. Certainly not Ian Tyson's era anymore. Ian Tyson refers to Stockmen's in his song "MC Horses" about the sale of one of Oregon's last great remudas.
Al of it is gone. God bless northern nevada
Thank you, just beautiful. Shared.
classic, amazing
Love this song ❤❤
Certified range road classic. Great work
Damn, you nailed that one for sure! Thanks Amigo
I love Ian Tyson’s music. Thank you for paying tribute to Ian. Love your music Corb, keep on playing. Miss you Ian
Great song, great tribute.
Very nice love it
What a great tribute to Ol Eon. Definitely a bit of a tear jerker first time hearing it. After the next few listens it just gives me a real warm feeling inside. Hope to get to hear this onelive at the upcoming album release show in Calgary.
Tyson was a legend, pure Canadiana . So many others recorded his songs, same as Lightfoot.
George Jones had a song gonna fill their 4:16 that is a very pointian question. Corb thank you for remembering very talented singers and poets, we have no body that is going to fill Ian's,Baxter,Don and several others boots these men all were talented and understood how to entertain the public. There are a few like you, Corb, that learned from these men. County Music still haven't filled the boots of Marty, Conway, Rex Allen Sr, Roy, Gene, Waylon,Merel, George and several others and Toby. Thank you God for having Corb Lund remembering the talented men of Elko
Well done 👏
A fitting tribute.
This is a nice tribute corb Lund
Thanks for the song it’s Cale Hanson
Missin Baxter and Ian.. Thanks Corb.
The best
Thanks!
Honest good old music, I like it, I like it just fine.
I'd love to be able to leave something like this.
Still wish I knew the chords to Student Visas, love the new album, bought 2! one to hear, one to save.
Rodeo's Over hits different now
I made many a mile with his help, grasias
Corb, Can you make a quick detour to Boise on your way to Sparks? El Viejo sounds very much like an old friend of mine! Right On! TreeFort Music Hall, Neurolux, Olympic, Pengilleys, all can accomdate a quick set! ps- you can find me as the BSUPimp
Thanks dad and thanks ian for the road trip from wpg to stoney plain on the 16
With all the BS going on in the world everything is frozen in time . Nice tribute Corb .
I got a question. What happened to Juanita down at Mona’s?
What can you possibly say 👍
👍👍🇨🇦✌️🇨🇦✌️🇨🇦👍
This sounds like john prime song
My hat is off!
English please, this is America, what is this woke bullshit?
You know Corb and Ian come from Canada, right?
You realize the Spaniards were here first, right?
@@moon_fox0532 Second after Native American tribes but I get what you are saying.
I am assuming you mean North America, since this is one Canadian singing about another. One could say that, the many indigenous languages, Old Norse, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, and French all pre date English in the Americas, and have a place in American culture. So maybe wake up instead of complaining about people who did not sleep through grade school.
Always great to see the mentally ill on social media. They used to keep them in a rubber room with no outside contact.
