To be fair, the tape they use for boxing/fighting isn't just any old tape. So I doubt just anyone would have it and duct tape is too big and rigid to use for fighting. It's also not as durable as you'd think against constant kinetic force. (Yes yes, "way to ruin the joke".)

The reason you couldn't save kimball was because of a bug. The same thing happens when wearing legion armor. Disguises essentially set your faction rep while wearing them.
I learned that the hard way once when the best armor I had was Centurion armor and I put it on when the assassins showed up to fight them, and then failed the mission and was murdered by my fellow NCR members as the assassins succeed in killing Kimball.
I don't think it's a bug, just a quirk of how faction armor works. Resets your rep to neutral when disguised regardless if you actually have a good or bad standing with them. Useful for getting a desired dialogue out of Ulysses in Lonesome Road even if you're idolized by multiple factions

I don’t know how the bug works for everyone, but I’ve always had the issue if I didn’t directly remove the faction armor, close the pipboy, then equip another faction, the flags get stuck. For example, if I’m wearing legion armor and equip a tuxedo without removing the legion armor, it’d often get the faction flags stuck as if I was wearing legion armor. Only way I know to fix is to re-equip then unequip. Thankfully you’ll also get the corner notification telling you you’re in disguise, at least every time I noticed I had glitched it
I'm pretty sure I saw a vid like this. The toy knife can only be repaired by a vendor, and it breaks after few hits. You can't beat Point Lookout with it, due to it breaking in "kill-'em-all" sections, and it can't damage the end boss.

The reason the BoS bunker didn't attack you and House didn't let you protect Kimball was probably because you were wearing the Brotherhood power armor which acts as a disguise. Surprised you didn't use regular power armor which isn't considered a disguise and as such won't affect factions

The non-brotherhood PA sets are: Scorched Sierra PA(you get it after you beat Lonesome Road and nuke the NCR), Enclave Remnants PA(you get a full set when you complete For Auld Lang Syne, there's a helmet in Ruby Hill/Silver Peak mine, and a body in Deathclaw Promontory) and the Ganon Tesla Armor(complete For Auld Lang Syne, but convince Arcade to not fight in the battle)
you should try the rad child perk in one of these high endurance and strength builds. It gives you health per second depending on how radiated you are, 6 health per second at critical, and 8 at the deadly radiation level. When you have a high DT it'll regenerate health faster than you lose it so it makes you pretty much invulnerable

In an unarmed build, get a decent standing with each faction, then you can learn the ranger takedown (ncr) legion assault, khan trick and if you give veronica a dress you can learn the scribe counter. These moves along with the perk that knocks enemies over make unarmed builds so much more fun and whilst not relevant to this playthrough, if you equip 'love and hate' and unarmed build becomes insanely powerful. I killed the legate in around 20 seconds
It's a shame you can't use broom in F4 as a weapon. That would make good video "Beating the sense into people that don't swipe floor even if broom is right over there".

I just tried a similar build recently. With the help of Med-X, slasher, Battlebrew, and some turbos, you could wipe out the entire quarry junction pretty easily even on very hard. And a tip for your future playthrough: you could take the rad child perk when you're going to receive a lot of damage, it will save you tons of healing supplies. Your narrative style is great, keep up the good work!

Just beat new Vegas for the first time this week. I thought it was going to be overhyped but no it is the most fun I have had from a game from that time period.
Loved running unarmed builds my favorite trick was using the gloves to knock people out then switching over to a better weapon to finish them off it was a nice way to save my self some hp and armor condition also great against groups
I remember getting a perk that made enemies blow up when killed with energy weapons. I remember regretting it, since it killed me more times than the enemies. Wonder if it'd be fun to play with it from the very beginning and using, say, a recharging rifle or a laser pistol.
Beat it with Oliver Swanick chasing you. Not only is his trigger spot super close and he is hard to gain distance from, he can be killed by npc's. So you'll have to keep him alive but never let him speak to you...Do it, be a man.
Something I can’t get over is that the Courier took the metal hands off the power armor suit just to punch people with his bare, fleshy hands. Something about is is just really funny to me.
I'd love to see you do one of these challenges literally where you aren't allowed to have any item except, in this case, the boxing tape (and mandatory quest items).

something not enough long time vegas players use for the boxing gloves/tape is when you KO a enemy while they are down if you have enough unarmed skill you can in vats preform a "stomp" attack which does significant amounts more damage than normal.
I did not know the PA actually counted towards Brotherhood rep. They're such a small faction and really have any say in the story branching, so I thought their PA was just armor.

Fatigue damage is OP on very hard mode because it doesn't care about DT, and it doesn't get halved. I beat the legate but shooting him in the head 10 times with the followers beanbag shotgun. And then spamming him with a ripper while he was unconscious.

Fun fact, the creaters of the original 2 Fallout games made New Vegas. And they incorporated many features from Van Buran into it (failed Fallout 3) and they were contracted (or hired by Bethesda to make it) to make it as many had quite before
Nerbit attacking Helios one probably became a folklore horror story in NCR garrison circles. Imagine what that must have been like? Survivors of the attack telling stories of a psychopath in power armor who ran in and systematically began beating each individual soldier to death without pause or reprieve before stealing one component and leaving.

I wish more RPGs had fatigue damage weapons. It would allow me to play a "Batman pacifist" run, where I get to fight but I'm not allowed to kill anyone, and enemies waking up and attacking you again is part of the challenge. I always love having that option in a game, it's why Metal Gear is so great.
It's worth doing Honest Hearts early in a boxing tape build. The weapon binding ritual gives you a straight +10 damage per punch, which makes you deal pretty good damage

Unarmed builds synergize very well with chem builds, try punching Deathclaws at the Quarry with max Unarmed and Chemist perk

The stomp vats attack would have been useful as it does 4x damage when an enemy is knocked down which would pair well with boxing tape

Nerbit attacking Helios one probably became a folklore horror story in NCR garrison circles. Imagine what that must have been like? Survivors of the attack telling stories of a psychopath in power armor who ran in and systematically began beating each individual soldier to death without pause or reprieve before stealing one component and leaving.

I wish more RPGs had fatigue damage weapons. It would allow me to play a "Batman pacifist" run, where I get to fight but I'm not allowed to kill anyone, and enemies waking up and attacking you again is part of the challenge. I always love having that option in a game, it's why Metal Gear is so great.

It's worth doing Honest Hearts early in a boxing tape build. The weapon binding ritual gives you a straight +10 damage per punch, which makes you deal pretty good damage
