It’s really great seeing it from a monitor engineers view, I have not seen any videos out there in this context, thank you

This is a great video, especially for monitor engineers. I really enjoyed the 3rd layer input tip.

So by running the leads mix on the stereo master bus you then have to run the other mixes pre fade to avoid adjustments on the lead mix also affecting them. Doesn't this make it more difficult to catch and pull down a channel feeding all mixes if there is a problem?

I'm a monitor engineer and I've been working like this forever, and not one time that has come across as a problem... I think the scenario that you propose was more common in the wedge era. Now when mixing in ears that is not a real thing where you suddenly have to pull a channel from all the mixes... if there is some noise or somthing like that you just mute the channel. Working with the artist on the master buss gives you the benefit of VCAs, groups, parallel processing if you need... all goodies!

@@carlosvg1480 Yeah, I often have a mixture of IEMs and monitors on stage still, particularly in festival situations where I'm house monitor guy. I think thats why I tend to have the monitor desk set up post fade just in case. I get the benefits it was more an observation and question rather than any negativity. Its definitely something I'd try in the right situation.

I thought this too, defo going to consider it for my workflow moving forward but you’ll need to send pre fader, or to groups then to master L&R
