Another thing i don't like is that the only thing some schools have started to do about this is that they started lowering the standards, but that's arguably even worse, especially long-term. What should be done is to have mostly projects/papers instead of tests/exams most of the time.

01:24 Down here in the southern hemisphere, it is winter during midyear exams (and spring during finals). Fingers barely being able to write, freezing your nickers off, and the constant sniffling noises are enough to fail you on their own.
2:37 Given that they said earlier that the answer was £17, that means that he managed to buy 37 watermelons and 22 pineapples for £33, which, given this economy, makes me think he has quite a lot of points on his Tesco clubcard. (I would use this information to calculate how much each watermelon and pineapple costs, but I forgot how to do that. All I can say for sure about it is 37x + 22y = 33).
@@keithharrissuwignjo2460 Depends on what country you're in, over here in the UK we have multiple Invigilators watching every move. It also doesn't help that Invigilators are trained professionals that are basically trained to know when something is wrong.
nah the WORST thing about exams is that the teachers always yell out the grade you got making me seem like a dumbass like my classmates only hear when i get a bad grade but never hear when i get a good one and when they do they say "good job" like im a toddler
The worst part about exams is trying to remember everything. In maths they even do word questions which force me to not only figure out HOW to get the answer but now I need to figure out WHAT method I even have to use by dissecting the question word by word which takes time. Issue? WE BARELY HAVE MUCH TIME TO DO THAT IN AN EXAM
And remembering formulae too. I remember there'd be questions n it's like "Bro I kno exactly how to do this question. I just can't remember the formula which I culd easily google in real life". But no, if you can't memorise it for no good reason at all, 0 marks. Stupid
It's even dumber when the higher mark questions use formulas that ain't common in real life, or straight up don't get used. Like, I don't know about any of you but I don't think I'm going to be using Pythagoras theory any time soon. Stuff like money, time and all the basic stuff is what everyone needs to know, but we learn that back in school.
The stupidest thing about Math exams specifically, is they don't want you to use a calculator, but then give the majority of points to showing your work as to how you came up with the answer. If the work is more important, than who cares if you used a calculator? Having the correct answer because you had a calculator doesn't mean anything when you still have to write up the entire equation step by step. Like cool! I used the calculator to figure out that 7x7=49, but if I still have to write up 7x7 = 7+7+7+7+7+7+7 = 14+14+14+7 = 28+21 = 49, then what good will the calculator do? The calculator doesn't break down the equations or anything. I still have to do all the breakdowns by myself. Important to note though that 7x7 is elementary/middle school math. I can do that all by myself. But all the "solve for x" stuff, fractions, exponents, etc., please just let me use a calculator.

What fucks me up is how they want you to revise so much stuff instead of a smaller amount of things for better quality revision its litterally quantity over quality
3:05 literally to avoid cheating and reliance on technology, cause otherwise if you dont use your brain and rely on tech too much that should a time come when you dont have any of that on hand to help you, you would be screwed because you didnt use your brain to actually think of the answer yourself. Its not exactly outdated, it just makes sense from a teaching stand point. Cause then whats the point of teaching anybody anything if all theyre gonna do for the rest of their lives is just whip out their phones and just ask google for mixed and unclear answers and never think for themselves?
This is really saying something about how much exams suck when Grade used to be a teacher himself (Unless I'm wrong, in which case I'll go fuck myself). 4:41 In the US, though, most people do get this kind of work load, corporate wise. Employees always get non-distinct job descriptions that always include the language, "Must be able to multi-task."
3:30 this is why mid term online exams are amazing, because I'd start a course hence still taking in information actively and not remembering specifics but then having the internet by your side reduces stress by 100x.
4:34 Wait, seriously?! They taught us in school that when you have a real job, you'll possibly have a lot of tasks and projects to work on while you got strict deadlines! Are you telling me that will NEVER happen?
Thankfully when I was in University. Studying to develop and create videogames didn't have an exam at the end of the semester. It was all practical work so just assignments. On average you would have maybe 2-3 assignments per semester which were your practical work. Be it programming, 3D Modelling, animation etc. There were smaller work in between the lessons but you still had your overall assignment. So when it came to the end of the semester we just did the usual thing while other courses and classes had exams. Sometimes when we finished our assignments we would just play video games.
3:40 while i agree on computing power being the way forward, it's very important that people can perform these tasks without them, unless you want to repeat the middle ages, but well, if your brain can't even comprehend why it was called the dark ages then you're a lost cause already.
As a Maths teacher myself, really enjoyed this video and you made such valid points, Grade! It's time that education starts to move away from the pressured situations of exams, especially those with no support tools. In the modern era, simply unrealistic to have students write so many exams and memorize all the important info!
Bro good luck during these hard times man. The freedom you feel after they're over is actually the best feeling in the world, it's jus a shame you have to suffer the torture of exams to feel it
I remember always being stressed out for exams because teachers would make such a big deal out of it. Like they'll literally remind us to get a good night's sleep before the day of the exam and to eat a healthy breakfast. I later realized that I did better on exam days if I just treated it like a regular school day. Also one thing I really liked about exam days is usually that meant no homework for that day because there was no lecture. And if the exam was on a Friday, that meant no homework for the whole weekend. So ironically I sort of liked exam days.

I live in Virginia. During our SOL assessments, we are allowed only a computer, paper, and pencil. After we complete the test we aren’t allowed to use any electronic devices. The worst part is that if a phone goes off and it isn’t in the collection bin, the person leading the testing process at the school has the option under VDOE’s regulations to *INVALIDATE THE TESTS OF EVERYONE WITHIN THE ROOM AND FORCE THEM TO RETAKE THE TEST.*
My school has finals 2x a year. One during the first quarter (1st and second semester.) this one takes place a few weeks before winter break… so during December. My second finals is a few weeks before graduation. 2nd semester (3rd and 4th quarter.) This is during summer, or May. Right now as I’m posting this, I have finals coming up on a Wednesday. However, my school does something different. If you don’t miss more than 3 days of school, (4 if you’re a senior), and also have a B+ or higher in the class, you get exempt from your finals. Unless it’s a college course. If it’s a college course you have to take the exam, but it’s always way earlier than the day actually scheduled… so if you do it before hand, you don’t have to show up the day its actually scheduled.
Not all grade standards are the same as America dude. Different countries have different grade standards. In the UK our lowest grade is a U. We have: A* A B C D E F U
For me the WORST thing was sitting in one spot, even after the exam was done and doing nothing. Doesn't help because the silent, stressful room and constant supervision really does not play well with Schizophrenia lol
Make a video on how to cheat, tricks and tactics... my favourite "cheat" for example is to wright formulas with a pencil on my (dark coloured) calculator, you may right them on the top, or between the buttons. The best part is that it is easily wiped clean with your finger. Hope anyone finds this useful for their next exam and if anyone is willing to share some tricks, I would be grateful. Anyway, glad you are uploading videos again and going hard!
I can relate so hard on that last part. Each prof wants an assignment done, and instead of handing those out in succession, it just all at once, and while I'm worrying about having to code 5 projects at once I'm supposed to be looking for a job, studying for interviews and... It's just way too much.
I think proffessor should have to specifically justify an assessment with why its important for understanding the material and why it specifically needs to be an assessment. the important stuff gets though and its an hassle on the professors side to add unneccesary stuff
Fun fact: Japanese people are the smartest in the world Mainly because in their schools, they do not give test until the 4th grade Your childhood should be spent being a kid and learning who you are. Not stressing out about upcoming test every Friday
Another fun fact: In brief, Japanese educational system prevents students from developing creativity, enjoying free time, and maintaining a clear future vision. The pressure to perform well on university entrance examinations is overwhelming for many high school students. So, I wouldn't really put it as a good example. I won't even mention their horrendous work culture...
Exams aren't any more of a skills application test than a memory test. And yet, you'll live in the real world with the worst memory imaginable because you have access to the internet and sticky notes.

Specific, measured, achievable, relevant, and timely B. Specified, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely C. Specific, measurable, achievable, related, and timely D. Specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timely E. specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and timed AND NEITHER TYPE OF QUESTION ACTUALLY PROPERLY TESTS YOU ON THE ACTUAL, EXECUTABLE SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE YOU LEARNED IN THE PROGRAM.

2:04 Lol Northern Hemisphere problems...
Another thing i don't like is that the only thing some schools have started to do about this is that they started lowering the standards, but that's arguably even worse, especially long-term. What should be done is to have mostly projects/papers instead of tests/exams most of the time.
There were stoners that never showed up to my class in high school yet they still managed to pass with honors probably through cheating or some lowered standard

Actually, some schools make you do a check during the exam where you have to use a phone to record yourself and show the back of your computer, ceiling and under the desk at some point during the exam. My school does this so I'm still stressing out
Makes me EXTREMELY grateful my uni course had no exams. Just coursework and the closest to an “exam” we had was a recorded discussion you had with the lecturers where you just spoke with them about what you did.

@@keithharrissuwignjo2460 Depends on what country you're in, over here in the UK we have multiple Invigilators watching every move. It also doesn't help that Invigilators are trained professionals that are basically trained to know when something is wrong.
In most cases teachers are glossing it over and pretend they don't know, every move students make are actually quite nocticeable
nah the WORST thing about exams is that the teachers always yell out the grade you got making me seem like a dumbass like my classmates only hear when i get a bad grade but never hear when i get a good one and when they do they say "good job" like im a toddler
Another awesome video mate! Its seriously so nice to have you back :) ( also this video came out while im waiting for my exam results lol)
Stupid
Forcing students to remember literally everything, is just stupid and worse of all they make us less smart.
I read this in Sonic’s voice because of your profile pic

@@GradeAUnderA i wish i was
I’d love a video on exam cheating!
If you do make that video, you should include a part about doing exams online. Especially about the proctoring.
My A levels are right around the corner💀 thanks for making this Grade! It lifted my spirits lol

3:05 literally to avoid cheating and reliance on technology, cause otherwise if you dont use your brain and rely on tech too much that should a time come when you dont have any of that on hand to help you, you would be screwed because you didnt use your brain to actually think of the answer yourself.

Something about Grades voice is so relaxing. It’s like he does the yelling for me
Thankfully when I was in University.

Like they'll literally remind us to get a good night's sleep before the day of the exam and to eat a healthy breakfast. I later realized that I did better on exam days if I just treated it like a regular school day.

Fun fact: Japanese people are the smartest in the world
Mainly because in their schools, they do not give test until the 4th grade
Your childhood should be spent being a kid and learning who you are.
