Fun fact: Barbie was able to have a Dreamhouse almost 10 years before women had the right to purchase a home in their own names. Unmarried women couldn't own land until 1974. Barbie (for all her checkered history) still stands as a fem icon.

The message they're trying to teach men here is "your life doesn't revolve around a woman and you don't need toxic masculinity to be a man" and I think that's amazing! That's not anti-men AT ALL

@@maquiavelich I grew up with a very toxic dad, he'd always cut my nails until it bled, my head had to be shaved otherwise my hair was "too long", he'd censor me when I talked in a "feminine tone" (whatever that is) or walked in a "feminine way". So when I saw that message, I really felt seen!
But that's because I already understand how damaging toxic masculinity can be and I already understand that I don't need to follow those rules. It's harder for men who are still following that way of thinking without even noticing how bad it is.

Allen represents the man who is comfortable as an individual and doesn’t need a relationship or status to be happy. He’s look down on for it, he’s just Allen who doesn’t have a tie in girlfriend and since he’s the only Allen he doesn’t need to compete with any other Allen. Everyone went in this movie expecting because it’s “Barbie” it must be just superficial fun, no one expected this smart, heartfelt and thoughtful film.
The part that broke me and most viewers into tears is the clips of real mothers and daughters along with Billie’s song, those were clips provided by the crew of the film from their own family archives, Greta is a true inspirational genius for doing this. And Billie knew what she was doing writing this song she stated that every word in this song is exactly how she feels, what she didn’t realize or maybe does, is that those words are actually what every woman feels.
I also really enjoyed Ken’s storyline, it excellently portrays how “lost men” can be so easily be mislead with the ideals of patriarchy and pushed towards the toxic masculinity pipeline, out of a missguided sense of finding any purpose, the type of men who revolve their entire identity around finding a woman to "complete them" end up resenting their dream women and blaming them for their own flaws. When in truth they were more than Kenough, they just needed to focus on their dreams and their own progress outside the scope of finding their Barbies.
Nothing wrong with trying to find the partner of your dreams but your life shouldn’t revolve around the concept, it should be an extension of you, a choice you make to be there for your partner because you want to, not because a patriarchal society tells you it’s your sole purpose.
This film is not any shape of form anti-men, if anything it's anti patriarchy. It shows that this idiotic patriarchy hurts everyone not just women. You can have “Dojo-Mojo Casa Houses” without destroying “DreamHouses”
Thank you for a great reaction

So fun Fact: In the scene with Weird Barbie’s house all the Dolls Shown were actual Dolls that were Discontinued or a Cancelled line, starting off with Palm Springs Sugar(‘S) Daddy Ken he was actually called that because on the Box it said “He’s Sugar’s Daddy” indicating the Dogs name is Sugar, the name is what ultimately led to his demise (2) the next Ken was Magic Earring Ken & the reason he was discontinued was because he came with an Earring on the Left side which led to people coming up and saying this Ken is definitely Gay, and it didn’t help that he came with a necklace that was a Ring that happen to be a little to big to fit his “Fingers” giving people the idea that Kens “Magic Ring” went somewhere Else.. (3) we have Growing up Skipper and for this doll it’s kinda self explanatory. Skipper is Barbie’s little Sister & this Doll was about Skipper well.. “Growing Up”… & many parents didn’t like the idea of a Toy company teaching that to Children. (4) Teen Talk Barbie now the reason she was cancelled was because she was programmed to say many “Teen Phrases” which one of them was “Math is Hard” and many took that context as Barbie saying Girls have a hard time with math and that got the insinuation that Girls can’t be smart to do math. (4) Video Girl Barbie was actually Discontinued because she sparked a bit of Panic from the FBI which then made them set out a statement that this Doll is a possible danger and could possibly have someone watching you though the doll from Hacking (don’t know if they ever found or had any cases of that happening, also interesting fact this doll saved the Turpin Family from their abusive Parents, ‘The Turpin Family Case’) (5) Pregnant Midge, very also self explanatory too this was the 2nd and last time she was ever shown she and Alan were discontinued a total of 3 possible times and the Happy Family Midge (Pregnant Midge) set was the last time. & last but not least is Tanner the Dog he was a Toy Dog from a Barbie set that was about Barbie walking her dog and feeding them but the thing is tho the dog food pellets that you fed them were also the.. poop they drop… and when it was time to “Feed Tanner” they had to put the Pellets back Omg to the bowl.
    Rip Ruth Handler ❤
That was my interesting facts sorry it’s long.

38:28 yeah Barbie said that to Ken and she was being ignorant about Ken. But Ken literally stole Barbie's house? I don't know I just feel like he took it much further and Barbie was clear that she didn't like Ken. I don't know I feel like a women shouldn't feel bad about rejecting a man if she doesn't like him? (This is my opinion)

I've been that woman (teenage girl at the time) where I constantly was rejecting a man's advances because I was not interested in him that way and when he acted out I was the one blamed because I wouldn't just 'go on one date with him' instead of him being held accountable for his own behavior. I adore this movie but the one part that really hurt was only Barbie apologizing - even my 10 year old son who asked to go see this movie with me was upset by that and tied it back to THE speech where it is literally brought up that women take responsibility for men's behavior.
all this to say, absolutely agree with your opinion

    • @quegs
      @quegs Год назад +10

@@SakuraPixie hey, thanks for sharing and I’m sorry that happened to you! That was in no way okay and you’re right that it’s wrong to make women be responsible for men’s behavior.
But I have to say, I don’t think that’s 100% what’s going on with Barbie. Ken’s entire crisis is because he is LITERALLY an accessory to Barbie - he has no context for himself without her. Being Barbie’s boyfriend is, by design, his entire identity. So in a very real sense, in the Barbie World, when Barbie ignores Ken, she’s very literally depriving him of his purpose to exist.
It’s framed as “Barbie doesn’t want to date Ken,” because the movie (IMO) is also about how toxic it is for everyone that a lot of a man’s perceived value is his ability to obtain a romantic partner, who is also the Only Approved Outlet for said man’s feelings.
Barbie says, “men should be allowed to be vulnerable without having to place their entire emotional welfare on their romantic partners,” AND “women aren’t ever obligated to give men affection” AND “Toxic masculinity has robbed everyone of all genders of the decency and consideration that is innate to their personhood, so let’s work to stop that.”
Sorry for the diatribe, I just think that Barbie would hate what happened to you too!

People who say this movie is about hating men or anti-motherhood either didn't get it or have not seen it. It's a commentary about how women are viewed as less than in the real world. But the message is not that women are superior to men, it's that we're equal and each have a purpose. Barbie doesn't just exist to look good and Ken doesn't just exist to be by Barbie's side. They are both worthy of happiness and love as individuals.
And America Ferrera's character specifically says that it's okay to "just" be a mum. You don't have to have a career or choose between a career and being a mum. Plus the pregnant Barbie was a real Barbie that was discontinued because people thought the idea of it was funny seeing as she didn't have a vagina.
Speaking of, the ending with her going to the gynecologist, now that she has a vagina, is actually genius.
Margot Robbie is fabulous as always but Ryan Gosling just took it to another level!

Personally, I like how open ended the movie is, even if it didn’t intend to be that way. For me personally, Ken was a guy who just wanted approval and to feel like he mattered, after a lifetime of being pushed aside and treated like a second class citizen. Him going back and teaching the other kens about patriarchy, if you remove the word patriarchy, is sort of like a revolt against their previous oppressive circumstances, where they generally got ignored by everyone, even including the corporation that made them (lol). And under the Kens’ rule, sure, the Barbies were servants, but most of them seemed pretty happy. Unlike the Barbies who just neglected them, the Kens actually showered the Barbies with love and affection while they were ruling. I see the ending as sort of bittersweet, where the Kens are reduced to second class citizens again with virtually no rights (even the movie’s narrator acknowledges this), but at least now they’ve learned that they matter and can think for themselves, and they stopped chasing for barbie’s approval, learning to live more for themselves. I mean, no one else cares about them, so they’ve gotta care about themselves. At least now they have sort of a brotherhood established.

Why is it complaining when a woman has to answer tor a mans behavior? And why is it everyone else get to stand up and demwnd equal rights such as BLM and pride movement (which i support) but if a woman dares to point out how unfsirly women have been treated since there were people its complaining and being a victim? Because its not just the facts America said in that amazing speech, that was the kinder version. In truth it should have included there is NO race, no religion, no nationality that has been mistreated more than women. No one has been more exploited, murdered, enslaved, tortured, raped, molested, hated and kept "in the box" meaning know youre place. Treated like livestock to breed, which also incidentally we have no control over either. And even if youre beaten by a man to miscarry, she goes to jail. A woman doesnt have the right to save her own life if a pregnancy will kill her, to abort means jail but not aborting means death for you both. Women werent allowed to speak over men, own property, ask for a divorce, have their own bank account,or try to stand up for themselves without then being burnt at the stake for being a witch because they dared to be independent. This has happened in every cilture, in every religion, (yes, Christian too),in every country, in every race, and in every single time period. In some places here in america even they still have a woman must obey a man in their wedding vows! If a woman iz raped, in some places shes killed. If raped in this country, 1 in 10 rapists will be actually tried for it which they will usually be acquitted because the woman was "asking for it". Child molestation of girls is around 1 in 7 to 1 in 9, but its a vastly underreported crime, so that stat is most definitely low. So when ken asks barbie how does it feel (to be treated like a second class citizen), but for women we know all too well. Oh, but thats complaining, right.

@orangetaxi9253 Every movie from hollyweird is a woke garbage
people are so tired of everything having to be so politically correct, a bit of escapism is just what people need.

@@nina-qt6eq Some of them would look at the new TMNT movie, whose only message is that "everyone is equal, mutant or human", which is nothing new, but now would call it political. And would call something pro military, like Top Gun, as apolitical.

I think all the Mattel employees are escaped Allans! It's the only thing that explains that wacky chase scene through Mattel headquarters.
I loved rewatching this with y'all.🩷
May I recommend 2 shows on Prime I think you would enjoy the heck out of?
    1. Good Omens
    2. Wheel of Time (season 2 is kicking butt right now!)

The opening scene is a super dedicated and accurate parody of 2001 a space odyssey, one of the most iconic scenes in film. It's why it's hilarious - they really went all out with the homage lol.

My favorite character was Ken. Everyone was great. Margo was great. I felt for Ken, but he made me laugh the most as well. He went about things wrong, but he was trying to find meaning and purpose. He was not validated in Barbie Land at all. His arc from being insecure to toxic masculinity then finally realizing happiness and acceptance come from within, was really brilliant.

The Shining is a book by Stephen King and there’s a movie based off of it (which you should totally watch) starring Shelley Duvall and Jack Nicholson. It’s considered to be one of the best of all time as most things directed by Stanley Kubrick are lol.
But the actual term “shining” is a kind of psychic connection where people can show each other things without speaking. Almost like telepathy but more visual. It’s like you can “throw” your thoughts at someone as long as they can also shine and therefore catch them.

Ironically, my favorite character in this movie is Alan and the most unpredictable and amazing part of this movie was the Ken plot-because people don’t really expect Ken to have character beyond Barbies “boyfriend“ The whole part of the movie revolving around Barbie was kind of predictable😅 I mean the storyline is something that’s been done over an over in films, it doesn’t really get old because it usually gets wrapped up in different source material every time it’s re-done

Hey y'all 👋, Check this out, Ryan Gosling was a Disney Kid in the Mickey Mouse Club when he was young (preteen/teenage years). His cast mates were Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and more. He has been singing since back then & was actually pursued by labels to record music, however he didn't want to do that and instead focused on his Acting career.

I LOVED this movie, watched it in theaters! Ngl I laughed a lot, I also cringed a lot regarding the story but all in all it was a good movie. Not to mention the design direction they went with was INCREDIBLE. ALSO THAT PINK CAR, I HAD IT IT WAS REMOTE CONTROL! 😂
I feel like this movie is enjoyable if you watch with an open mind but many look for an “agenda” so their main focus turns into blatant hate.
