Very good points on the parallels between the Common Good (Wokery) and Christianity which is based on the freedom and integrity of the individual soul. All the various tributaries of modern Leftism feed the religion of woke. You can observe it everywhere - climate change, the Covidians and their religious talismans, gender identity etc.
I would recommend listening to Jonathon Pageau on the Book of Enoch. It is quite brilliant and challenging but there is an answer there.
We are in a post Christian Era and if this is not stopped we will be seeking out worship in secret as we have done before. Thank you Father Ashenden for my bread for the day.

Fr Gavin: thank you so much for this most informative talk about the issues in Murray’s book. I am especially grateful for your highlighting the church’s failure to come to grips with these issues and to take a bold stance for the faith which we hold to be true. Good bless you for your insights and your courage to share them with us. Every blessing from, Arthur (South Africa).

A beautiful commentary. Not a believer myself but nonetheless somebody who believes in Judeo-Christian values of forgiveness and humility. Despite my lack of belief, I do want to have values guiding my life that are bigger than me and that I can strive to pursue, yet it seems that many pursue a different kind of religion, a new set of highly dogmatic values oddly and dangerously focusing on purity. McWhorter is certainly one to read.
Oddly enough, I suspect a union of atheists/agnostics such as myself and Christians might be forming in the defense and support of our besieged culture.

I wish that you could/would post more often Gavin, I miss you when you stay away so long.
I have just started the book n it is an easy read which surprises me - the content is not so easy of course but then the truth never is or so my lived experience informs me. Thank you again for all that you do.

I have just finished reading the newly released book ' Faith of our Fathers' by Joseph Pearce. The subject is England's Catholic Heritage, in particular it draws attention to those who gave their lives, through love in an environment of hatred and wokery. I recommend it to my fellow Catholic brethren in particular, and also to my Protestant friends and all who are interested in English heritage. Mr Ashenden, actually gets a mention in the last chapter of the book.
    Pax Christi.

Thank you Gavin. It's just a shame that the leaders of our institutions, from Government down, and, most regrettably, including our most celebrated seats of learning, have preferred to accede to the demand that they genuflect before the god of woke than that they should apply their critical faculties to rebut and refute the intellectual dishonesty. Of course, as secular organisations, that can simply be put down to cowardice, an unwillingness to oppose the mob. For companies, that would be defending their market share in a potentially hostile market. But for the leaders of our "established" churches to cravenly cower and to accede to woke demands is beyond reprehensible, it is the most disgraceful abandonment of the Church's role to maintain an unwavering and unmistakable Christian stance, as you have articulated.

Thanks for the reminder that there are silly frames by which to judge the world. 25:35 Avoid dealing in those frames. Choose instead to deal in the virtues and vices of each human being, reckoned to God.

This is amazing, clear and true. "Revenge masquerades itself as justice (in wokeism). The evil that's coming out in the woke movement is being fueled by resentment. Resentment that says, 'I'm hurting; something's wrong. Somebody else must be to blame and it's not me.'" His use of masquerade and conceal is genius. It's all smoke and mirrors, fakery, by people who love the darkness more than the light. And, is he ever correct that the Church has lost its courage because we've been secularized. Thank you, sir. This is so insightful and convicting and encourages me to share the Gospel even more.

It's true there is no definite description of 'race', but let's not forget that the governments of the USA and South Africa created the criteria that identified the races. They weren't going to leaved anything to chance.

What about the view of history that places more importance on the role of the Holy Spirt ? In my flawed, amature & ignorant fumble-ings with history - I'm of the view mankind would not have walked on the moon if God's special gift of the Holy Spirit to humanity after Christ's death and resurrection - had not occurred. What say you?

  • @hazchemel

I've known only one racist person, a close relative. Defined here as a block hatred of an entire race.
There is always casual talk about national characteristics, but is that racist even if sometimes quite accurate? Even positive characteristics: courage, determination, sacrifice?
But I start from a point of disbelief. I disbelieve the people who make racism their career, in the west. Their "evil" is glaringly brazenly apparent, and though they have been known to quote scripture, these quote from their own schools of pain and misery: feminism, racism, greenism.

You keep mentioning our Judeo-Christian culture, but ours is a wholly Christian culture; Christ demolished and reformed the Judeo element such that Christ came on earth at the very end of prophetic, true Judaism and at the beginning of man-made Judaism through the Talmud I.e. rabbinical Judaism. His crucifixion was manipulated by the then Sanhedrin who were ‘a den of vipers’. Thus the woke war is basically against Christianity and Christian culture itself, and does not target any perceived Judeo element. The Ukraine conflict is about the war against Orthodox Christianity of BOTH Ukraine and Russia. Prophetic Judaism functioned as the prequel to Christianity and validates Christ as both Messiah and Son of God.
If you talk about racism, you must mention white Zionist Israel’s persecution, brutality against Palestinians for the past 70+ years. Torah Jews, such as Neturei Karta, (not Talmudic Jews) continue the traditions of prophetic Judaism.

Perhaps Judeo-Christian is best understood as a term which is meant to encapsulate a general ethical and cultural outlook which is derived from the Scriptures, both Jewish and Christian - as with, for example, the Ten Commandments. And I would question whether 'our' (Western?) culture is 'wholly Christian'. It has deep Christian roots, but has ever been infiltrated and plagued by the intrigues of the 'evil one' in whose power 'the whole world lies' - 1 John 5:19.

GAVIN: I'm reading the book now; but one thing strikes me in your presentation here. In referring to "our Navy" (in the 18th & 19th Centuries) you may inadvertently legitimise the 'woke' habit of historicising the present. Critical Race Theory relies 100% on this principle: that the (Western) World is as it is, owing to the abuse of power, by people long before us, against people also long gone. This is why the present so-called 'white' races have a shared guilt from birth: which requires them to "educate themselves". What is more, CRT only applies to "whitey": not in any other context on the Planet. Of course, Jesus' analysis of the human condition is that of a young Jew: where the existence of the God of Israel is taken as granted; and where our relations with one another need to be reflective of the love which the Father has for all of us. This - as you rightly surmise - trashes the race-baiting 'grifters' in so-called 'Acadaemia', from the get-go. We need do no more than imitate Jesus: and the Marxist progenitors of CRT despise us for that.
