Intetesting stuff. For balance, would like to hear your thoughts on that study in humans (no cancer) looking at consumption of fermented foods (probiotic rich) vs fruit and veg fibre. Only the fermented foods increased beta diversity and significantly reduced markers of inflammation. The primary effect of the fibre rich fruit and veg seemed to be to increase the number of pre-existing bacteria, not diversity. Obviously this outcome might change if the study looked over a longer period but it was intriguing results.

The strain is very, very important. You're correct. Also, none of the probiotics actually can colonize our gut. There seems to be a glaring oversight with this study and/or possible conclusion. The general premise is there is a correlation between fiber intake and longer duration of cancer remission. Is it the fiber intake that results in better health outcomes or is it the fact fiber is typically linked with fruits/vegetables that also have other compounds that could very well have cancer fighting abilities? Also, since cancer seems to be linked with higher consumption levels of certain meat products could it be that people who eat higher fiber (aka fruit/vegetables) may also eat less cancer correlated meat products such as red meat and processed meats? Key reminder that corellation is not causation and there may be a whole host of other reasons the study obtained the results it did and it wasn't the "fiber" per say.

  • @ignacioa1638

Interesting that ketone bodies are what these fatty acids can be metabolized into, even in the gut.
Interestingly, a ketogenic diet or, analogously, a carnivore diet, can accomplish the potential benefits of short-chain fatty acids and ketone bodies' production.
I'm 65 and I have been on a low-carb ketogenic diet for over 25 years, which had many benefits for me. It was 6 years ago that I went carnivore (no fiber in my diet) and I have never felt better, including digestion and general well being. I'm quite fit and athletic and take zero medications...and no fiber. I'm just one single data point, but I believe there are others that find benefits in eliminating plant foods (including fiber).
Saying "don't" listen to carnivores about fiber intake seems a bit infantile to me.

Sorry not on topic of the video, but this is a very curious happening recently I wanted some thoughts on. I was dieting at a standard -500 a day for 2 months, lost about 7 lbs which is swell. Then I decided to take a diet break, bumped my calories back up to maintenance, and in the last two weeks, I'm down almost 3 lbs. And I weigh myself daily, these are from averaged weekly numbers.
I know CICO works, so why would I lose weight faster when I bumped calories to maintenance? Did doing so somehow increase my metabolic rate or NEAT? Whatever's happening feels kind of extraordinary.

U probably have more energy to move more. When u that low in calories u might sit around and sleep more. Maybe u have for example a step counter to get some indication. Don't underestimate normal daily walking etc.

Water weight IMO. Under stress your body can hold more water and so when the stress drops (IE going back to maintenance), you lose the excess water weight. Bodybuilders talk about having their lowest weigh ins after maintenance days all the time

@@TheSmiaf Ah well I only track my steps when I'm actively walking for exercise. Maybe I'm walking and fidgeting more or something, so my NEAT went up?

@@colefiegel5847 Fascinating! I haven't noticed any sudden dips, it's still gradual, but I guess it could be a gradual loss of water weight.

@@colefiegel5847 I thought when u eat more especially carbs u hold more water.
True after competition but I think there was another reason for that.... usually they cut out carbs and water so they look more flat in the end. Which is opposite of what u want. This isn't about the weight itself though. Pfff I don't remember the details Honestly 😅
