- I talk about what a key is in music and why this is helpful to know. I'm not normally big on learning music theory, but understanding chord families and the "key" will help tremendously.

Hey mate might seem like a silly question but does playing in the key of E mean you start on E or playing in the key ofA mean the first note is will be A Or the key of G mean the first note is a G?
Thanks for the explanation! I just don't understand why in the second example of G, the F is sharp?
It's a G scale, and in the key of G the F is sharp. For Major scales, the formula for a major scale is as follows: W-W-H-W-W-W-H (W=whole step), (H = half step). so that last interval between the F and G, in order to make that a half-step, the F must be sharped. Here is a blog post I did on this topic. www.tomasmichaud.com/major-scale-theory/
This is a great video and has been super helpful! I do have one question though; if you have a song that's in, say, the key of c, does that mean the song also must start with c as the first note?
It can start with any note in the key of C. But typically for songs the root chord of the key of C, the C chord is typically the first chord.
😁interesting
Omg thanks this helped alot
But i have a doubt how to identify the key of a song because all the keys have some notes common, like the c key and the g key have many notes in common
There's not one quick answer Ojasv, but I did make a video on this: www.tomasmichaud.com/rgs-live-18/
Very nice 👍
Thanks Ejaz.
Happy Birthday To You
