Overpriced aswell for what it is, I'll personally wait until an alternative is available at a realistic price paying what you'd pay for a console again for the hdd emulator is not worth it in my eyes, All your doing is adding another expensive failure point
Want to thankyou for this tutorial, i got my 5000 series up and running, my hardrive works fine on mine but wanted to limit wear on it, just been playing driver3 and to those who asked but your game iso in the dvd folder. Thanks again man.
Hi Andrew. I love your tutorial, I am trying to follow the steps by using my softmodded PS2 with FCMB to create the second FCMB memory card. For some odd reason one of your steps doesn’t work for me. After the install is done on the second memory card and I am trying to follow your configuration step, I remove the USB, I replace the Memory Card from slot 1 with that of Slot 2, I am resetting the console holding R1… and nothing happens, it doesnt open the openelf part of the software so that I can further follow your steps along, so I am a bit stuck.
I’m pretty new to the mod scene so I apologise in advance if this is a stupid question. Is there a way to get the PSX to boot games from a SD card or Hard drive etc. I know it’s possible for PS2 using MX4SIO but I can’t find anything on compatibility with the PSX. It also doesn’t help the some people call the original PlayStation the PSX 😂😂
Hello mate, can you access the normal Browser menu thought FMCB to play original disks on a PSX with dead HDD or you can only play off USB trough the media loader?
Thank you for this guide. I am now thinking of making a FreeMcBoot for my PSX to preserve it. I just wanted to ask because I have seen other videos where they are playing PS1 and PS2 discs via the uLaunchELF, is there a different app that I need to install to do that as well?
Cheers :-) Got chance to fix my editing machine and to do a bit of filming etc over Christmas so fingers crossed I'll be hovering for a while on here :-)
i haven issues try to load free Mcboot from my Hori Magicgate memory card... i get free Mcboot logo but doesn't boot anything up... I have PSX-DESR-5100
Hi Larry! You can look into ESR which runs via FMCB which may be an option - although it will involve patching and burning ISOs. Mechapwn is supposed to be working on PSX (not sure if it's released as yet) but if so, that should be a straight case of popping your discs in and away you go as normal. Failing that, the easiest way is to probably modchip the machine as I've done in Part 7. P.S. absolutely love your content btw! 👍
Andrew - I have a 7000 that works with PS1 and PS2 games, can I take preservation steps now? Backing up the HDD or something? Or is it just a wait for it to die?
Yes, you can take a raw backup with some freely available tools, I've done the same with mine in the event that the disk dies and someone manages to crack the encryption. Hopefully one day that will come. Luckily my disk has no bad sectors at this point - the unit appears to have been lightly used up to this point in it's life so hopefully it will be good for a few years yet - particularly as this won't be used too often once it's all fixed up. It's a shame but until that disk can be replaced I don't want to risk it - working ones of these need to be preserved as best they can :)
Hello, I'm not very familiar with FMCB stuff honestly and I have an option to buy PSX device that may have damaged hardware. Also, I have FMCB card already but the "regular" one for PS2. I would have two questions now: 1. If I have this FMCB card already do I need to have modded PS2 still to reconfigure FMCB for PSX (I do not have modded PS2)? 2. If answer for the 1st questions is 'No' from which step shall I start with this video? Many thanks for your help.
Hello! Doing it to my PSX. I heard there is a way to translate the XMB menu to english. And is it now possible to boot directly the game without the burner disk check?
EN translation is on PS2 Scene but it's not very good. They ran it through Google and it translates things like "Thursday" to "Tree" (in Japanese, "Thursday" is represented by a character that also means "Tree"). You cannot direct boot without patching the disc or using mechapwn.
so just got my psx desr-7000 same unit as you. i followed your tutorial exactly and.... games on my usb do not show. I have correct images and it is a ex fat formatted 32 gb usb. however on my screen once i change it to dbm like you did and then press x to show games. my usb does not show as a usb like your does mine shows as a bdm device and shows no games. Edit: ok so i figured out had to be fat and not ex fat... but how do you play games from usb that are larger then 2 gb? as fat only allows 2 gb files.
I found an image online that burned, stuck it in my unmoderated ps2 and it booted to the freemc menu to install McBoot to the men card. So you don’t need a modded ps2
@@AndrewPaul Thank you, do you think you can pack it and give me a download link then i'll be able to fix my console ? 😃 Thank you so much in advance 😁
UPDATE: Never thought I'd see the day but dead PSX HDDs can now be fully replaced via a new IDE solution. They talked about it a bit of Retro RGB
Do you have a link for this?

Very good! My psx in the 5100 version and only loaded with a original memory card sony.
Another enjoyable video, happy new year Pal :)

Did you already use PSX Xmb Manager ? recommend?

Same 🙄
Some third party cards don't play nicely with FMCB. To be sure, always use an official Sony card with FMCB.
Hey, do you know how to boot other region discs at all? Also copy those to the hard drive.

What about FMCB + a Modbo Chip?

1) no
2) run the installer, press R1
Will this work also if you have a dead hardrive on psx consoles??
Yes, I believe so 👍
hi great video thx . is there a video for bypassing the burn laser?
Thank you. I'll be covering bypassing a faulty burner later in the next one in the next couple of days 👍
AFAIK there is no way to bypass the laser except to use FMCB and set a hotkey to autoboot. I think by default it should be R1.

Hello buddy, how are you? I hope so I have a psx like that but my hd died, would you have a backup that I can use to recover mine.
Doesn't work like that. Unfortunately your PSX is dead for the foreseeable future.
Paste the games in which folder?
so just got my psx desr-7000 same unit as you. i followed your tutorial exactly and.... games on my usb do not show. You'll need to split down the ISO. There are utilities for this available online :)
I found an image online that burned, stuck it in my unmoderated ps2 and it booted to the freemc menu to install McBoot to the men card. So you don’t need a modded ps2
Nice find! Good to know, many thanks for your comment. :-)
Thats must be FreeDVDboot.
It use the DVD Video Player to run a unsigned code
Beaps, so you still need a P2?
28:57 What will be, if you not holding?
It will revert to what's set to Auto - by default, that's OSDSYS (so XMB in the case of the PSX).
Hello, do you have xosd folder for DESR 7000 firmware 1.06 ?
Thanks
Hi, Not sure if it's specifically 1.06, but I should have the folder on my PSX HDD. I'll check the version.
@@AndrewPaul Thank you, do you think you can pack it and give me a download link then i'll be able to fix my console ? 😃 Thank you so much in advance 😁
I can certainly try👍
@@AndrewPaul HI, did you have time to pack the folder for me ? thank you 😀
@@yoaltrockmetal crack is there a way to repair the psx software?
36:59 What will happen IF you don’t install opl as autoload?
Not an awful lot - the machine will attempt to start to XMB.
can this process be used for a ps2?
Yes it can - you'd just step through the standard or multi-install option in the FMCB installer rather than using the PSX flavour.

This is ware the xmb started
It's so cool! 😎
