- Let's take another little orchard tour and see what my top 3 blueberry varieties are and the best grapevine growing in my garden. We have 16 different varieties of blueberries but these 3 are the hardiest plants that are producing the most abundant crops of highbush blueberries. We'll also take a look at the grapevines I have growing and see the huge crop they are producing this year!

Woot!
It's all filling out Mike! Looking good
Bring on the cobbler 😂
Cobbler is on it's way!
Mmm cobbler! 🤩
would like to see you propagate blueberries-have been trying for years with no success
I'll work on it!
New to Mike Kincaid …. I’m hooked … such enthusiasm, down to earth and really engaging. Looking forward to learning so much more from a ‘hands on’ guy who clearly loves life and growing such a huge variety of plants and produce. Quite brilliant. Thank you
Really happy to have you here Tim. Enjoy the videos and start experimenting.
Yes, please give us the recipe and a video for Leon's Peach Cobbler!
Gonna have to happen!
Any update on the recipe?
I love our orchard! It's finally becoming what we visioned years ago. Great video!!
It sure is, can't wait to try some of that strawberry jam you made!
Can't wait to be able to watch it in more detail when I'm not at work
I'll have to look into your channel and see how you propagate these things. Nice planting looks good. Can't wait for your cooking video and the blueberry cobbler.
Thanks, it'll be coming soon.
Beautiful garden and a definite yes on the cobbler.
Thanks, and cobbler is on the way.
Thanks for the tour. Looking forward to getting that Leon’s peach cobbler recipe!
Coming soon!
Hi Mike, Wow, Those fruit are amazing, looking forward to your recipe.
I'll make it happen for you.
Yes I need your peach cobbler recipe! I am trying your rose cutting on the roses that are around my daughters new house. It was an old school house from the 1800’s and has a bunch of June roses, pink, yellow, and white. Simple to multiple petals. Nasty thorns. I hope some make it. Looks good at two weeks.
Sounds like the recipe video will have to happen!
Yay, a cobbler recipe! That sounds awesome, and the simpler, the better (or so the saying goes)! It is always fun when your daughters and Shellie are included in your videos. I don't like complicated recipes, the ones that use a bunch of odd ingredients (that I never have in the house) and take hours to prepare. Mike, your fruit orchard is really taking off! ~Margie
It sure is. We just went out today and picked a bunch of strawberries and blueberries. This recipe is simple, uses ingredients that everyone has, and I know you'll love it!
@@MikeKincaid79 My mouth is watering already!
You have everything that I want, can’t have breakfast without them! Awesome, including the background ‘music’!
Glad you enjoyed it, Necy!
Definitely want to see Leon's peach cobbler!
I made a multi berry cobbler for Father's Day .......
It was very good!
My family LOVES cobblers!
We love it too! I'll have to do the video, it's a simple recipe.
Love the colour of pink that rose is! Of course we want to see and have the cobbler recipe.
Coming right up!
dam love that rose thats another one on the list too get lol, cant wait too see u fully plant up and enclose that area be a nice place too relax and a vote for the cobbler also send some sun Scotland needs some more lol
I'll send some sun if you send a little rain, lol. Cobbler video on the way!
My 22 Legacy and Brighton blueberries are still putting on in Mid-Missouri. I just got them as liners this spring and they're still in the pots I transplanted them in! They're on my back deck. I rest and forage while enjoying my yard! 💙
I'll have to look into those blueberry varieties thanks!
Sounds like a plan, Heidi!
Oops, Brightwell blueberry! Not Brighton!
I love your grapes! So cool!
Mike, I’ve learned so much from you. I’m in 6b Pennsylvania. You make me laugh and enjoy your Vlog. Keep them coming.
Thanks, Marie, glad you enjoy them!
Love blueberries and would love to see a video of you making Leon's cobbler. Thanks.
I'll be sure to do it!
Yes post that coppler right after the green house video thank you
Haha, I really need to get that one done, don't I.
Lovely!
Great video Mike, thank you from Epsom, Surrey! 🇬🇧 Yes I would like to see the cobbler video!
We tend to make apple 'crumbles' here so be interesting to attempt a cobbler 👍
Oh man, I love apple crumbles (if it's what I'm thinking in my mind and I'm sure it is). I'll do the video for ya sometime soon. My daughters would love to get in on that one.
Beautiful blueberry n grape....😃
Thanks, we love how this orchard is turning out.
Looks great Mike! Like the bewitched rose too! Henry crowed...great stuff!😉🤣 Hugs! 🤗💜
Just for you!
Of course, Mike! Missed it! 🤣🤣🤣 as long is not in my yard.
The Duke blueberries do great in Michigan I've got several of them that all produce loads of quarter sized berries every year.
Thanks for that. I think the one I bought was just a dud, haha. I just had my wife pick up a new Duke blueberry this morning while she was at the nursery so we'll give it another shot. I have high expectations for this one.
Let’s see the recipe Mike! I love cobbler. Yum 😋
Coming right up!
The blue razz are my favorite so far. Slightly bitter with the sweetness of the blueberry. Also growing here in western Washington north of Seattle.
Thanks, James, I'll check them out.
Would love to see a grape propagation video or a propagation bourganvillea video as you always have such amazing results!
I'll keep it in mind, thanks!
I'm in WA too. Toro is a pretty good variety. A blueberry farm near me grows it. I've got 10 varieties (one of each) in my yard and chandler is my biggest berry and last year was by far the most productive. I got 7.5 lbs off the one bush last year. 5 lbs so far this year but it's still producing. Briggitta and Blueray are also pretty good performers. Never heard of coville. I have duke too and it's about average and is an older bush.
Sounds awesome! I think Duke may just need colder climate because I hear it grows well in New Jersey. Thanks for the confirmation about your Duke blueberry. I may just pull mine out and replace with a Toro.
Hi Mike, Love your videos. Very engaging, informative, clearly explained. Kudos! im subcribing for more great content. thank you. Much the best,
Love to see a video on the birds and rodents that roam your garden and how you control them (or not control them)
We have hundreds of birds around here that tear up the mulch in my rhododendron beds looking for worms. We've got moles, voles, and rabbits that tear up the lawn and chew on my vegetables and strawberries. Despite all of that, I love it all. We take the good with the bad and plant so much that there's more than enough to share. When picking our pickling cucumbers the other day, it seemed like every third or fourth cucumber had a bite out of it and had to be discarded, but my wife still managed to put up 21 quarts of pickles over the past few days.
Hey, I'm in Tacoma. Polaris did real well for me last year. Pink Popcorn tastes wonderfull.
Awesome! Thanks for your experience with Polaris. I don't have that one but the Pink Popcorn is a great variety here.
Yes, yes, yes, blueberry cobbler recipe, PLEASE!
Coming soon!
definitely want that cobbler recipe!
I better get the mixing bowl out!
Amazing garden. I would love it if you would share the cobbler recipe!
Lots of votes for the cobbler. I think it's going to have to happen. Thanks!
Decades ago in the 80s...I choked on my bite of squash casserole when you said that! 😂😂😂
Haha, time flys
Toro blueberry is one of my favorites also!!
It's an awesome variety in this area. Glad I found it!
Peach cobbler yum
Blueberries one of my favorite fruits..
Mine too and maybe a tie with raspberries (Joan J variety). Duke variety is our favorite blueberry!
I really wish my Duke would perform a little better but it's been like 4 years and still not doing much of anything. Maybe I'll try transplanting it somewhere else. What part of the country or world do you live in?

I am hoping to see a video on propagating kiwi vines in the future. Love your garden, how do you keep the birds from eating your blueberries, i didn't see any netting over them. Would love the cobbler recipe too
Not sure why the birds leave them alone but I've never had a problem with them. Here's the cobbler recipe: ruclips.net/video/TenH_EDcVY4/видео.html
I’d love to learn to make Leon’s Peach Cobbler!
I'll get a video going soon!
Loved the roses! Make more roses videos pls.
Working on it!
I would love to see Leon's cobbler recipe and more propagation videos.
Your wish is my command
@@MikeKincaid79 Yay! I'll keep my eye out for it! Also, maybe the laws on propagating certain varieties of plants?
My favorite blueberry cultivars are Darrow, Chandler, Spartan, and Misty. You should definitely try Darrow and Spartan. Darrow is my absolute favorite! Anyway, my father was a machinist too! I was also in the Navy and stationed in Italy! I love wine though.
Sounds like we've got some things in common, Frank. Being stationed in Aviano, Italy for 6 months was definitely at the top of my list of great life experiences. I do have Darrow but it hasn't produced a lot yet. I'm finding that blueberries respond in different ways based on the climate. Are you in a colder climate? I'll work on the wine part, haha.
@@MikeKincaid79 Yes, we do! Not to mention our love of gardening. I was in Gaeta for 2 years. I'm in Olympia and all my Darrows are doing wonderfully. They're a late variety and now they're just beginning to ripen. I love the taste, size, and leaves of Darrow. I find that they like an eastern location and moist soil. From my understanding, they are a southern highbush variety. I would recommend Pinot Grigio for white wine and Pinot Noir red wine. Beaujolais is also a great red wine. That's my favorite.
Yes the cobbler video would be nice. I can compare recipes.
I love cobbler and this recipe is a simple one. I'm always looking for new good recipes. I'll have to make the video!
Hey Mike it's me Glenda and I really have to tell you that I have gotten the bug, the Big Bug! Everywhere I go, I see beautiful plants that I would love to have one of. Went to get some test run this morning and I saw a gorgeous spearhead plant that was approx. 5 ft. Around and draping 3 ft. I had to ask for a tiny little piece 😍😊 the plant belonged to the director and he said sure take as much as you want. I took just enough to get me started and he hugged me and said, take care of my baby. I love my plants and I also wet my plants.... Hahaha 😂PS usually I am allowed to get a cutting or a start of whatever I ask for. I'm loving this 🤣🙃😂
That's so awesome to hear, Glenda! Glad you're having fun with it and that's really cool that the nursery owner let you take cuttings.
Wowwww😋😋😋no skip😉
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for your support!
I have a Duke, Toro, and Legacy, looking forward to them becoming established.
I absolutely love blueberries and no way you're old enough to remember a time before computers, Mike! :-D I like blueberry cake and blueberry zucchini bread.
Haha, I'm still a pup but an old pup at 41. Computers weren't a thing for me in school until I got to highschool and then they were still just in the beginning. I graduated in 97 and our family still didn't have a computer. I was 22 before my Dad and I pitched in together and bought our first computer.
I didn't encounter computers until college in the early and mid 80s. Got my first home PC in 1994. Can't believe how much technology has evolved since then. Kids these days are learning how to use computers before they can even read. Compared to me, you are a pup! :-D
Cool video 😎
Thanks 😁
That looks good. you still need to do a video on your grafted apple trees .I just would like to see them. how big they got and if they made apple yet ..thanks I love watching your videos
Thanks, Justin, unfortunately I haven't done anything with the apple trees I grafted since that video. They're still in the 1 gallon pots and basically just sitting in a state of suspended animation, lol. I need to either get them up potted or plant them in the ground but haven't figured out where I want to do that yet.
O I grafted 5 apples this spring for the first time ther about 6 feet tall now 👍the wind got one of them and broke my grafted but they are doing good thanks
No such thing as too much coffee! ☕ The grapes look amazing!! Yes!!! Please make a 🍑 cobbler video!
Coming right up!
My children love berries and especially blueberries, strawberries, raspberries
Nothing better than growing your own berries.
Mike, i'm having so much problem with my blueberries, would you please make a series on that? Propagation and care!
Coming right up!
@@MikeKincaid79 realllyy?? Omg! I'm so excited!! Can't wait!! Thank you!
Yes make a blueberry cobbler.
Sounds like a plan, Linda!
I would like to see you make the peach cobbler.
We'll make it happen, Lanell!
Thanks 😊
☺ I have blueberries too my favorite. Also Im living in zone rural where is a thousands birds and I have a grenhouse made with glass and some windows are broken well some types of birds ate my blueberries and left me only the half plant. Lol Grapes need prune to have fullest and sweet grapes.
I think I'm going to have to prune my grapes next year.
I have 12 grapes vines- bunches lol yep My favorite is Niagara the leaf is so pretty color and Eastern Concord are sweet too. .Your grapes looking Gorgeous too one more for my collection ☺
I may have to look into those varieties, thanks!
yes.....let’s make cobbler!!!!!!!
Sounds good!!!
I've propagated my grapes every year with pretty much 100% success rate. It doesn't matter if it's green growth or old wood, usually around early summer when I'm trimming off new growth and I give away the baby plants. Maybe it's because of the variety (purple valiant)??? I'm curious as to how other varieties fair . Also that's a yes on the cobbler recipe 😁 you gonna demonstrate the baking too?
Yep, we'll do it all, the baking and the eating!
@@MikeKincaid79 love it! Looking forward to it. 🙌
Def want see that cobbler! Got 2 questions. 1) Do you cut back your bluberries or is that their natural size and 2) can you propagate and sell plants that have names, do they have TM or CW?
Cobbler coming right up! I pruned the blueberries once but otherwise, that's just the size they've reached since we planted them about 3 years ago. They were originally in 1 gallon containers. They will eventually get really big if left unchecked. You can propagate and sell plants with names as long as they're not trademarked or copyrighted. They're all different so you'd have to look each one up.
Need help pruning my grapes. I'd love to have you teach us how.
I just pruned mine this past winter. I guess I should have filmed it. Maybe in a couple years.
I "stuck" three varieties of grapes this winter...Zone 4b grapes. Just waiting to see if they take this summer.
Grapes are so cool and such a beautiful screen when grown on a fence.
Thanks Mike! I have a few Chandler and they are the best producing, big berries! Midwest Zone 6A. Question: What is the success rate of propagating blueberry by layering? So far my softwood cuttings are not looking very promising.
Blueberries will root very well by layering. If you're struggling with cuttings then do the layering for sure!
I would love to see you propagate the blueberries. I would like to know when, I have a few plants I need to propigate; Chandler and Pink lemonade. Thanks.
You can take them through the summer but the earlier the better.
@@MikeKincaid79 I think I will be doing that this week! Thanks.
Blueberry propagation video time! Is that a magnesium deficiency or pH issue with the Chandler plant?
I think it's an iron/nitrogen deficiency. I have never fertilized these blueberry plants and the manure and woodchips may not be breaking down fast enough for some of them. I may fertilize next year.
@@MikeKincaid79 I would suggest foliar feeding with kelp and a bit of magnesium to help the strengthen plants that need a boost.
Hello Mike, I have 2 blueberrys that were given to me by a friend. I would like to share with another friend . My question is if I dig up the suckers that have sprouted from my plants will they be true to the mother plant ?
Yes, they should be true to the mother plant. I don't know of any grafted blueberries. They grow well on their own roots.
Do you prune your 🍇 or have you done one great video thanks for your time 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
I haven't pruned them yet since planting. It's getting to be about time though so I'm thinking this winter I'll prune them.
Awesome garden brother, I'm just starting out but I'm way down south, what was your rate? I was MA3.
AMS2
looks like you are going to need to make a lot of grape jelly and raisins to save them all.
Haha, I'm gong to have to figure out something to do with them.
I have a blue berry bush that I have to use a ladder to pick can I prune it back ???
Absolutely, but wait until winter. If you prune it back, it will grow more vigorously and produce huge quantities. The first year it may send out a lot of green vegetative growth and then produce fruit the following year.
I think I will try blueberries in a pot when I can actually buy acidic soil for them
A lot of people grow them in pots and seem to do well with them.
Please do the cobbler video.
You got it, Aliza!
What kind of sand do you use for blueberry clippings?
Any sand that drains well
Thank you. So play sand will work? Should I add anything else.? Your videos are great.
what is the base I use to start my blueberry cuttings in
Here's a video I did about rooting medium: ruclips.net/video/eLXHy4A4-xk/видео.html
I'd sure like to get some cuttings from your grapes lol
Maybe I'll ship some out in the winter.
@@MikeKincaid79 That will work, By the way Cobbler sounds good
Hi. I live in Michigan, what do you think is the best blueberry that I should plant? And when is the best time to plant blueberry? Thanks.
Hard to say. Your area gets much colder than mine so different varieties might do better there. I'm fairly certain that Duke is a great variety for cold weather. I'd start with that one.
Mike Kincaid thanks.
Whats IS your top 3 Chandler & toro and the Fird ?
Not sure, I'd have to think about it. I'll watch them closely this summer and try to remember to give you a third variety.
I live in Keystone Heights, Fl., northern part. I need to know what kinds of blueberry bushes I can grow.? I have rabbit something....forgot name.
I'd have to dig into this one. I'm not as familiar with the specific plants that grow well in your area. We're on exact opposite ends of the country.
i’m the one who ask about grapes and rhododendron I live in Portland Or Thanks
Mike I have also grape vine but ,it doesn't gives any fruit or flower,.other hand it's more bushy than other plant .what can I do for it ?.
Make sure it's got plenty of sun, and the nutrients it need to flower like phosphorous. You can add bone meal to the soil to help.
Thank you very much
Bought blueberry bush this year. Suppose to be self pollinating. Nothing this year. What could be wrong?
There are several things that could be going on but I'd also want a second bush for pollination regardless. Bartlett pear's are self pollinating as well but you'll get way more production if it has a cross pollinator nearby.
Try starting air layers on the grapes now. Should be easy.
Sounds like fun. I need to get a bunch of those air layer pods I keep seeing all over Facebook.
@@MikeKincaid79 black one gallon pots cut in half with a hole in the bottom will work.
@@MikeKincaid79 I also have a couple of those pods on the way.
Do you keep grass cuttings under your blueberry bushes all year and why?
We mulch with grass clippings to keep the weeds down and build the soil.
Mike? Many years ago I tough you had a grapes like Sweet Sapphire grapes ..Wanted ask where you buy it.... Is hard to buy the plant, only sells seeds but I don't know how to germinate those is really a challenge maybe you are interested to figure out and want to have a another project in youtube and share lol .-BC
Thanks for the idea, I appreciate them. No sweet sapphire grapes here but I'm always open to suggestions.
I want a garden tour
I've got multiple garden videos on the channel. Just search for them with my name and you should find them.
Hello from Honduras are those table grape varieties or wine grapes variety
Table grapes
Thanks
I like sweet wine too. I don't like dry wine....
Two peas in a pod
Absolutely !
I'm struggling with my blueberries 😩 I love them but they don't love me, lol
The roots need to stay moist during the summer and they prefer acid soils so a good rhododendron fertilizer will work well.
Can you propograte blue berries?
Yes, as softwood and hardwood cuttings.
Mike, are you interested in some HWC of Siberian Pea Shurbs? They make excellent privacy hedges and are easy to propagate. Fast growers. I can send you 50 HWC (that's how many I can get in a Priority Small Box). It's $8.45 for shipping if you are interested. I just love my SPS and so do the birds!
Wow, cool plant, I had never heard of them before now. Thanks for the offer but I've got so many projects right now that I can hardly keep up as it is. I may come back to this when things slow down though. Thanks!
How do you keep birds and squirrels off your berries
I use the "shock and awe" method. I grow so many fruits and berries that they couldn't possibly eat them all, lol. Seriously though, I just never seem to have a problem with squirrels, as they seem to look for seeds and nuts. The birds are occasionally a problem but not too much. The biggest problem I've had are deer but I build a fence around the orchard and that solved that problem. The only other problems I've had are ants early on in the season and hornets later in the season. Again, there are so many things growing here that there's more than enough to go around so I don't really worry about it much.
@@MikeKincaid79 I killed 20 plus squirrels here I'm my yard this hunting season they just keep coming. Apple trees, strawberries, blueberries they destroy them.
Hi Mike can i buy your red grape planting material..
I'll have to get some cuttings rooted but it will be next winter.
being from italian descent, the odd thing is i do not like red or white wine, and your right grappa is better. in the fall gramps got giant whiskey barrels and burnt the insides to get the alcohol out of the wood and cleaned them well. we went to the railroad market and got 40 crares of grapes. from outside we passed the crates through the basement window where the hand-cranked crusher was smashing stems and grapes. we'd pail the grapes into the barrels in the wine cellar where the fermentation happened. gramps had a fig stick that looked like a hand. we called it the purple hand and we were told never to touch it which became the horror of the cellar. if ya go into the wine cellar the purple hand comes alive and attacks ya. striking fear into all the grandkids. the wine doubled in the barrels and the wooden press was prepared. gramps constantly testing the flavor and smell of the grape, he knew just when to start the process. we'd be there to turn the wheel and smash all that juice out from the husks and it would dribble into buckets and pour into the new barrels and some into giant glass jars. as long as gramps was around the purple hand stood stiff on a special place he made for it on the wall. once the barrels where full he'd cork the barrel with cloth and wax and of course the cork itself. he turned the barrel's sides up and waxed the joints and turn down the barrel and waxed the other side. they weren't gonna leak for him no how. in stages, he would roll the barrel's side to side. by Christmas the wine was ready and he'd tap the barrels and out came the dark blood-red zinfandel right into the bottles and used the hand corking machine to close the bottles. the wine in the glass jars went oublic and that was vinegar with lots of mother at the bottom. gramps always had purple lips and drank a beer bottle full every night. sometimes he'd put a stalk of anise part into the bottle and or it from bottle to mouth in the air. all the wood that was saved and use was for a bonfire in the yard and the ashes spread across the field. those were the days. carmine p. ps: sometimes we threw someone in the cellar with the lights out and they'd scream " the purple hand ". -- have a good one.
Haha, "The purple hand"! Great story. Was that in the US or Italy?
that was in the u.s.a mike. he lived in north n.j. he was an immigrant from italia.
I want the recipe!!!!

It’s too bad Toro, Chandler, and Covell won’t do well in zone 10b. They all look quite nice.
I didn't know blueberries would grow in such a warm climate. What varieties are you growing there?
@@MikeKincaid79 , hi Mike, I have mostly Southern Highbush and three rabbiteye plants. I’m in Southern California.
Have you ever trained a grape vine into a tree?
No, but it sounds like a fun project.
Grapa is a distilled wine.
It sure is good stuff
@@MikeKincaid79 Average wine alcohol content is 11-13% Grappa is 35 to 60%! (70-120 proof!) 🤣 It's liquor made from what's left after they squeeze the grapes.
