The thing about voice actors matching ethnicity of characters. I find it funny that somebody was annoyed about Cleaveland's voice actor. I'm a big fan of Anime, I like dubbed when it's available. As Anime is Japanese, a lot of Anime is based in Japan and a lot of Anime characters are Japanese. But when they get dubbed plenty of characters are voiced by non Japanese Voice actors. It's actually the same in reverse, Charlotte Yeager is American, in the original Japanese version she is voiced by Ami Koshimizu, a Japanese voice actress. Tanya Degurechaff is German, she is voiced by Japanese voice actress Aoi Yūki, a Japanese voice actress. I've never had a problem with this and haven't heard of Anime getting controversy for not matching ethnicity of the character to the voice actor for litrally thousands of characters... But Cleraveland was controversial?

13:30, the holdover episodes thing is especially true for season 6, most of the episodes production wise were made for season 5, hence why you can see the shift to the more modern Family Guy art style/writing style when the production code gets to 6.
Decided to give myself a quick refresher on Palin because of her statement. Things she's done that hurt disability rights 1. Oppose legalizing weed. Which is an effective treatment for multiple disabilities. So opposing improved healthcare for disabilities. 2. Opposes marriage equality. Something that the disability community doesn't have currently and has been fighting to get access to(Both queer and straight disabled people can have the gov interfere in our marriages). 3. Anti sex ed and abortion even in the case of rape. Believes in abstinence only sex ed. Disabled people face a larger percentage of grape because they often aren't in as good of a position to stop it. Maybe even having cognitive problems that lead them to being tricked easier. Stopping sex ed increases that statistic for everyone but especially disabled people
I thought John K complained about South Park because Mr Hankey was similar to a sentiant poop named Nutty, claiming the character was part of a series he pitched to Comedy Central. 32:00 Kind Of The Hill had an episode on a trans character that was way, *way* more progressive than Family Guy's first few episodes of Ida three years before "Quagmire's Dad" aired. I don't expect Seth McFarlane to know every trans character in the media, but claiming that that episode was "the most sympathetic portrayal of a trans character ever aired on TV" is just wrong. The King Of The Hill episode aired in 2007 (I think) and the main conflict was Peggy finding out that her new best friend who she gets clothes with is trans, not necessarily because she's trans, but because Peggy believed that her friend thinks of her as a man. Peggy's feet are big and the place she went to to get new shoes was made for trans women, which is why her friend assumed that Peggy is one. Not because of how Peggy looks. The trans woman's mother is super supportive and Hank made Peggy realize that the group of drag queens and trans women (yes, sometimes they're different) think of her as a woman. Then three years later Brian throws up over having slept with a post-op trans woman. Also, though I haven't seen it, apparently Tokyo Godfathers has a really good trans woman character. That movie was out in 2003.
Its really hard to nitpick a show about what color their voice actors are when they start out with zero budget and no name. Family guy makes people voice several different actors constantly. By the time they had the money to hire more actors, Cleveland's voice was already distinguishable to his character. Im happy they handled the change like they did and at the same time i can understand why it took so long or why it wasnt done from the start. Good to see great new actors getting major roles!
I think The Proud Family did "disabled people can be nasty" better than Family Guy did. I'm multiply-disabled myself, and YES, because we are HUMANS, some of us can also be assholes. But on Proud Family, Penny dates this wheelchair user dude who turns out to be a total ass. He uses his disability as an excuse to play helpless, and is very demanding in consequence. He disrespects Penny and her mom, so Penny kicks him out of the house and give him a SWEET verbal dressing down. She then apologizes to her mom for how she acted, all "I'm sorry mama, I KNOW he's disabled," but her mom says, "No, I think you acted just right." I'm with the mom on this one. We're not eh poor little victims that God cranked out the wrong end of the machine. We're humans. So we have all the ins and outs of all other humans, including, and not limited to, the potential for being jerks, ESPECIALLY like anyone else who gets spoiled. The wheelchair user kid, you could tell he was used to being spoiled and playing victim.
I hate the nonsensical logic that voice actors, especially white people cannot voice characters of different races and ethnicities, ESPECIALLY when that same logic doesn't seem to apply to anyone else but white people. So it's okay for Kevin Micheal Richardson & Phil LaMarr; 2 black guys to voice white characters, but god forbid a white guy portrays a black guy, it's f@cking ridiculous. Just to clarify, I am not having a go at Kevin Micheal Richardson or Phil LaMarr, these men are both incredible voice actors, and do an amazing job at their craft, but we pretend to be 'offended' when one race portrays a different race but then give a pass when the circumstances are reversed. Seeing this is a topic involving voice acting, I see no reason why a white person can't portray a Mexican character, or a Mexican portray a black character, or an Indian portray a white character, it's voice acting! As long as it is not done in a tasteless manner, I see no reason why White People can only voice White Characters, or Black People voicing Black Characters, so on and so forth. To think all this started because a handful of people got upset that a White Guy was portraying Apu; an Indian Character on The Simpson's, the 'outrage' if you can even call it that, was simply pathetic, especially because they were claiming Apu was a negative stereotype... IN WHAT WAY? He was a fun, likable and hardworking family man running a thriving business to support his wife and many children, and he wasn't ever treated differently from any other character on the show, and as far as the show's fans were concerned, he was a fan favorite character, much like Moe, Krusty, Ned Flanders, Principal Skinner, Mr Burns, Mr Smothers, Moleman, Sideshow Bob, Nelson Muntz, Martin Prince, Milhouse, etc. Honestly the fact that there were people ACTUALLY upset/offended by Apu being voiced by a White Guy, it's truly pathetic to think their are such brittle snowflakes in the world who actually got upset over a tame portrayal of a Cartoon Character, and a beloved character at that.
I can’t believe that the screams of silence episode is still allowed to be shown but the scene in Toy Story 2 during the bloopers bit in the credits where stinky Pete is seen with Barbie dolls gets cut.
The episode about domestic abuse is stupid. People are offended that Family guy didn't change it's entire show in order to make people comfortable. This show casually dropped that meg got molested as a punchline. Why should they take abuse seriously? And it wouldn't make sense for quagmire to suddenly be a super sensitive feminist because it's his sister. He's quagmire. And finally, the whole police thing is accurate. Often the police can't arrest abusers because the only evidence would be the testimony of the abused.
Even Brent being cartoonishly evil is in line because he's supposed to be an exaggerated caricature of the petulant and maladjusted people abusers are to act the way they do. I never got why people took this episode so literally
yeah, my problem with the episode is that it feels it wants people to take it seriously and laugh at it as well, so it, from the scenes shown in vid, kinda leaves me confused, and then they did the whole serious speech which demeans Qagmire's sister and that was played seriously so it makes sense to hate that
The Jewish episode of family Guy was actually one of my favorites as and honestly as a Jewish man myself I thought it was pretty respectful for what it was. Judaism was seen as nothing but a good thing.
The whole thing with Ida was overblown but understandable I’m going to say this Ida was in the wrong, she expected her son to accept her but no one else understood why Glenn was upset.
Another thing about the Marathon attackers was that they weren't gonna stop at Boston; I remember reading in the metro the following week that they were also planning to go to NY next before they ended up getting caught up in Cambridge and Watertown
I’m a bit mixed on the whole Coloured characters should be voiced by people of Colours as we have Male characters voiced by females and female characters voiced by Men so why shouldn’t White people be able to voice people of Colors.
16:29 They discus this in the behind the scenes video. They muted the colors a bit because the Family Guy characters looked too bright next to the Simpsons characters. They said I quote "their eyes were like headlights."
It’s a bit ridiculous to ask every show to have a voice actor that matches the race of every character, considering that being a voice actor is not that common of a skill and also in some cases, the races/groups of people might no longer exist a lot of genocides have happened throughout history some groups, no longer exist or have a very small population it’s also possible in some cases that for particular group of people there is no voice actor voicing a character is not the same as playing them in a movie people look at the character on the screen most people who want shows don’t even know what the voice actor of their character looks like in regards to live action movies. I think they should at least try and match the characters race to the actor within reason the Cleopatra movie on Netflix was an example of cultural appropriation and pseudo history in reality, Cleopatra was Greek not African there’s this thing called the Sahara desert that separates Egypt from the rest of Africa even nowadays it’s not that easy to cross contrary to what a lot of historians want to make you think there has never really been that much confusion in regards to Cleopatra’s race. The only confusion is whether or not she had any actual Egyptian blood in her or not there has been examples of white people playing rules of coloured people even when there was those groups of people available to play the role instead, but it’s also happened the other way around two good actor becomes the character skill and acting is what should really count pay voice actors also cost money not all shows can afford to hire a voice actor for every single individual character
I cant help but eyeroll anytime there's a joke or episode involving a disabled person (usually handled well btw) that gets responded by basically an able bodied person crying and moaning about it because their baby happens to have the same disability, and it ends up making them speak over the actual disabled adults who relate to the characters and find it funny

Yeah, like when a white character is voiced by any other race no one bats an eye, I don't think it matters who voices a fictional character on a TV show
you know I hate the "VA should match the character" argument because it's frankly just stupid and has negative ramifications to the minorities that it claims to prop up. I remember there was a youtuber who became a VA who was a big advocate of the movement only for months later to be complaining hard about how his agent would only book him roles playing asian characters because they couldn't cast him as another race without causing controversy.

They were very helpful she was able to get her own place she was able to get a job it really helped her and her kids out
I think Glenn saying, "Oh God; please just say you're gay," was a good example of how people would better handle a person being gay, but becoming trans is a (pardon the pun) hard pill to swallow for many people. There's one thing to change your orientation, but another thing to change your body in general. As for the voice actor situation: I believe that any body of any race can voice any character regardless of race or religion. It should only matter if it's live action; not animated or dubbed. Forcing one group to stick to characters of their own race in animation or video games is pretty much a form of segregation... the same thing many of them fought in the Civil Rights movement. (For many things other than in the entertainment world, of course.) For example, do you know how fucked a white voice actor like Danny Mann can be if he's not allowed to voice certain characters because they don't want them to have accents? He'd be screwed big time! All he can do is accents! And, most importantly, not every body can act. Black, white, Jew or Muslim; if you don't have the acting talent, you don't matter!
I think I inadvertently ripped off of Family Guy. I used to make an abridged Alvin and the Chipmunks show, and I dubbed the old man from the Christmas episode to be just like Herbert the pervert. But I forgot about Herbert the pervert as I had only seen Family Guy a couple of times at that point so it must've been cryptomnesia.

But Cleraveland was controversial?
anime dubs have plenty of other problems, always just go with subs
I'm surprised people were offended at the "I need a jew" episode, it's one of the least offensive portrayals of jewish people in the series. The whole joke is Peter's ignorance and belief in stereotypes.
As someone who grew up with a disabled sibling who was physically and mentally disabled, I personally believe that persons with disability deserve a space in general media and comical representation that they are in control of my sister had a great sense of humor and love that episode. with that being said, there are some things that they should not joke about unless they have somebody from that community a part of it
As someone on the Spectrum, I agree that ought to happen. Accurate representation is important.
the voice actor for that character actually had that disability so, also clearly the jokes didn't affect her.
I did like that FG doesn't sugarcoat or "angelfy" disabled characters. They make them normal people that can be typical, nice, or straight up terrible
Some people who are disabled can be just as terrible and lazy as anyone.
Well, no duh.

On the final part about the point if only people of color should voice people of color, I think limiting the race their VA should be is extreme.
I think POC should be getting more opportunities for roles more then just limiting the races a VA can play. Some times the best voice for a character doesn't match races.
It's segregation; that's what it is!

14 episodes of no violence on female characters. In a show where characters being assaulted is the norm is frankly impressive.
No, they said 14 episodes, "...before we found one that *didn't* involve an act of violence against a woman."
Yeah, I feel like they were being sensitive nontheless. They assume that bad things happening to women in a show is bad when bad things also happen to the men all the time. This is one of those moments where someone is trying to find an ism in something where there isn't one in order to be "woke".
@@channel45853 violence against men is comedy, violence against women is a crime... welcome to the difference between "equality" and "equality for women"

I have never heard of the phrase "sneak watch" and now I feel like my life is whole after discovering it.
i remember people getting mad at down syndrome girl. i always thought people we mad because some parents of special need kids raise them in a way that causes them to be jerks that take no accountably for there actions then using there disability as an excuse. had a kid in my school growing up like this who would have violent outburst towards the guys in school and SA female students and the school did nothing about it because "he said he is autistic and doesn't know better." the school i went to only finally did something in 11th grade because he touched a girl and she beat the shit out of him and when the school wanted to do nothing to him and punish her she called the cops so she can press charges which forced the school to actually do something about this situation.
13:30, the holdover episodes thing is especially true for season 6, most of the episodes production wise were made for season 5, hence why you can see the shift to the more modern Family Guy art style/writing style when the production code gets to 6.
I genuinely despise this show, as someone who has been s/aed I hate the constant abuse jokes and quagmire as a whole
“Segue” is pronounced “SEGGway”
It's a bit crazy to claim to be watching several video essays on Terri Schiavo and mispronounce her name too.
@@shifty_dragon3679 Exactly like her name is said in the episode 😭

Decided to give myself a quick refresher on Palin because of her statement. Things she's done that hurt disability rights
I guess it was an adaptation of obe of his comics, or something along those lines.
Update: I distinctly remember hearing about the interview with the voice actress for the down syndrome episode. I distinctly recall she threw shade at the governor for using her kid for sympathy votes. Why would you not bring that up? That was an epic burn!
I think the Brenda Quagmire episode is fine but they should have had more self awareness. It would have been funny if they made a joke about the Griffin's focusing on a woman they barely know being abused when they abuse their own daughter regularly.

Him saying, just like Brian, he'd puke if he found out he slept with a trans and not a woman is wild
Unless they recast Meg and I didn't know, she's voiced by Mila Kunis, who is Ukrainian and probably not a huge fan of Russia, not Rachel MacFarlane, who I think voices Hailey in American Dad
I think Rachel does the singing parts for Meg, While Mila does the speaking. Not uncommon in animation, as not every VA can sing
Uhm, Kitty... Jimmy Neutron doesn’t have a football-shaped head and he definitely doesn't hate or have to care for his mother 😅😅 Hey Arnold (1996) had a boy with a football-shaped head
How tf any of that sound like jimmy neutron
Oh shut up !!!

Yeah I hate the idea of voices having to be race matched, because it's usually only against white people
Yeah, like when a white character is voiced by any other race no one bats an eye, I don't think it matters who voices a fictional character on a TV show
you know I hate the "VA should match the character" argument because it's frankly just stupid and has negative ramifications to the minorities that it claims to prop up. I remember there was a youtuber who became a VA who was a big advocate of the movement only for months later to be complaining hard about how his agent would only book him roles playing asian characters because they couldn't cast him as another race without causing controversy.

"Woah, ass a-hoy"
I agree about the rape joke. It was too crass that to show Strewy doesn’t understand the concept. And barts face says it all

But I forgot about Herbert the pervert as I had only seen Family Guy a couple of times at that point so it must've been cryptomnesia.
