I believe a lot of Maynard's lyrics are based on how they make songs. He gets the song and has to come up with something,he loses himself in it. His lyrics are meant to be just another instrument in the mix of the landscape. You have to be " in the moment" to feel the music with all of the changes that are happening. 🌀
Cool of you to try a different approach to the music and analyzing the lyrics. Nothing wrong with your usual approach, just cool of you to share yourself trying a different approach. Reminds me of the Third Eye live version where they ask the audience to give them persmission to try a different approach to make the song a new experience.
I feel like Parabol is the thoughts of a fetus in utero questioning how it came to be, trying to figure out where it came from. The drop at the beginning of Parabola is birth, the downward curve of a parabola. The rest of Parabola is about being mentally present in this life and enjoying the journey. The end of the song is death and rejoining the collective consciousness. Just my opinion.
I was going to post this exact point but you beat me to it. Fun fact.... the line ALIVE is at the exact center of the combined track or mathematically the vertex of the Parabola. Total of both tracks is 9 min & 9 sec. Parabol is 3 min & 5 secs so if you navigate to 1 mins & 29 sec into Parabola.... you are at that lyric. The highest point where one is truly living.
5:37 I think the answer is the next line where all this pain is an illusion. Maynard is saying, and maybe reflecting on his mother’s suffering, hold onto whatever YOU are knowing this body is only a temporary reality. Whew!
Your dissection is spot on . I wholeheartedly disagree with Maynard’s dualism that separates the body from the soul. We are our body, without them, we wouldn’t exist in reality. “The body, and it alone, is capable of making visible what is invisible: the spiritual and the divine. It was created to transfer into the visible reality of the world the mystery hidden since time immemorial in God [God’s love for man], and thus to be a sign of it.”
Great video Leo know you going back through albums but can you react to Tool - Disposition next please it’s a chilled vibe but still a banger 🔥 Ps. I have “this one, this form I hold now” tattooed on my side under my armpit down to my waist Mind, Matter, Spirit I chose to be here in this life as this incarnation after my past live whatever form that was to be human and balance my karma right the wrongs created in my previous form and then my souls cycle will repeat until all Karma is balanced and perfected until my spirit joins with the infinite universal mind 🙏 That’s how I personally interpreted it
@@McCarlKnoxville You’re making Todd’s point for him by saying it’s the same thing other vocalists do lol. Maynard describes himself as not a vocalist, literally, but just another instrument. So it’s reasonable to say his method is unique. The other 3 members put together an instrumental track that they are happy with then Maynard listens to those tracks many times. He “marinates” in it. The first step in constructing the lyrics is identifying the syllables the song is conveying. The syllables are the foundation upon how the lyrics are constructed.
@McCarlKnoxville With your logic, none of the band can play because they use pedals, amplifiers, and effects for their instruments. You're trying to equivulate your half ass wood shop skills to Mynard's voicals? Playing Call of Duty doesn't make you a combat veteran.
The ( I Am not alone in this body ) I thought he could be talking about the fact the human body has billions of other lifeforms living on and within it like bacteria, viruses etc
I feel like Maynard is playing the part of a witness to belief, not necessarily him. Like me, he likes the ideas in spiritual doctrine, but it's not his belief.
I suggest never watching their official music videos. They're interesting, but distracting, and will change the story your mind created to go with the music. Art should have a different meaning for each person. Video killed the radio star.
This is the best format for TOOL reactions honestly, do all reactions like this
Great reaction and song discussion, I love your enthusiasm and thoughts on the everything. Cheers man 🍻
I will never NOT click on a reaction to Parabol/Parabola 🔥
If I have learned from Tool anything.. You can never overthink about them.

LOVE IT❤🌀
Thanks for this, it was awesome!🤘
Maynard calls his songs poems ❤
This could also be about being born and your soul realizing this is you here and now.
That's definitely a part of it, as the parabolic curve is meant to represent a human life cycle, near as I can tell.

@XathexX ALIVE! Great to know that fun fact!

Whew!
I appreciate you Leo 🎉
YESSSS my song❤❤❤❤
great reaction
Maynard usually gets all the music then puts his lyrics in. ❤
You get it
Always both!
Love the breakdown 😊

Tool-Disposition
+
Tool- Reflection
+
Triad
All together
🎵 Corr-ect-ly think-ing, correct-ly an-a-lyzing.... Links up the body to the miiiind. 🎵
Yeah, doesn't have the same ring... 😅
Great reaction
I can't hear the "v" of "Alive.. in this body" I hear it as "an illusion, a lie. In this body".

Just like other members play their instrument, Maynard sees his voice as an instrument to express his lyrics.
As do all vocalists lol. It’s called singing 😂 jk

@ lmao. He’s not a vocalist but he sings over harmonies 🫠🫠 y’all are sickening haha.
@ I may use saws and drills to build a house, but I am not a contractor 😂😂

Watch Bob Proctor's Who Am I
reincarnation.🦉

Did you ever watch the official video
Bro I feel like you might be my therapist.
You’ll find Maynard often follow the rhythm of the bass, if you listen carefully😂
I’m not so much a religious but this holy reality is as in the Holy Ghost? ????
I feel like Maynard is playing the part of a witness to belief, not necessarily him. Like me, he likes the ideas in spiritual doctrine, but it's not his belief.
I think MJK is a buddhist, hope that.
Well, he definitely studies buddhism, that much is certain.

Video killed the radio star.
You are not your body so who are you.
