I love it how they constantly look at each other, and often smile, and feed off each others energy. It makes all the voices somehow individually distinct, yet weave in and out of a cohesive whole retaining collective expressions. A lovely performance.

I came here having watched an excellent performance led by James Ehnes. Could not be more different to see people who play together all the time in a chamber orchestra, professional chamber musicians, takes it to a whole new level. What a phenomenal first violin too.

...I totally agree at the individual imaging of each instrument (or pair) and also the air in between. The balanced soundstage is excellent too, maybe it is the placement of those microphones above their heads. Congratulations to the Recording Engineer ! a job well done. High-End Sound, that is....

Felix wrote this delightful octet when he was sixteen. Nowadays, most teenagers don't write a quartet this good until they are at least seventeen.

Very perceptive: they put in evidence features that are not discernible in several moments with the available renditions, especially in I and III. They also managed to avoid syruping it up, much appreciated.

The 1st violinist tends to have raw phrasings, vibrato out-of-touch.

Wonderful performance. Not enough closeup camera time for Sara Övinge, however.

This is not a cut, just an observation. I saw more head bobbing in this performance than I have in a pond full of ducks. As some have said, this is the heavy metal music of it's era

I'd say that Janine has more sound, but it's probably because she has a Strad. They're both really, really good.
