    The next stop for the entourage is the new Children's Hospital in Pyongyang. Contrary to preconceived ideas about health care under the regime, the team are pleasantly surprised to learn how clean and modern the facilities are. Could this be the apparent upturn in the economy or is it all staged?

    They even stage a hospital ??? A children's hospital . Unbelievable

      We don't really know that they do for sure; it's just like the guy said: we don't know how to figure out what's real and what's not.

      Why would one stage a hospital... That's a very wild claim especially as shown with no evidence. They try to make the fact that they weren't allowed to film patients being treated as some sort of suspicious thing, yet to me it seems perfectly normal. Imagine if some camera man just stormed into your room while you're lying sick on the hospital bed. No country would allow that due to privacy laws and such.
      Likewise as in any country they aren't going to have the cameramen arrive during the busiest time there. Richard Roberts in the video said that during his own visit there was a lot of activity and people were being treated just like in any other country
      The fact there is doubt about the legitimacy of a built and functioning large hospital is something i find disheartening. There is absolutely nothing for them to gain for faking a hospital.
      Edit: added some more things to the comment

    • @harshmnr

      @@SapphFire Right, even if some things were staged for this specific visit (which is possible but there's no concrete evidence), it doesn't mean that this isn't a normal, fully functioning hospital any other time. It's not like they would spend all the money to build an entire hospital, get all that equipment, etc just to show to foreigners; it wouldn't even benefit them given all the costs.
      North Koreans are humans too. They require and give medical treatment. Many people become medical doctors. People get sick and go to the hospital, just like anyone else. Now, of course there are some caveats because this hospital is in Pyongyang which is generally more well off than other parts of the country. So those who are more wealthy or have higher social class are more likely to be able to go to better hospitals, but honestly that's not so different from some other countries. And it also doesn't mean that there aren't hospitals in the other cities; they just might not have as many resources.
      We need to remember that the vast majority of North Korea's issues stem from the government, not the average people. They are not just brainless zombies; they have lives. Yes of course, I disagree with the North Korean government as much as the next person and 99.9% of the world. But a lot of people take that a step further and approach any information on North Korea with preconceived assumptions that are automatically negative, and the cycle of confirmation bias begins. As a good starting point it's better to go off of information that came from actual defectors, or if you're gathering information from outside news sources that visit and report on North Korea, try to get different perspectives, not just the ones that make the biggest headlines.

      Journalists have immunity for the most part, especially when they are part of the BBC which is one of the largest broadcasting networks in the entire world. If he was a freelance journalist, he probably would have never gotten a visa for journalism in the first place, therefor not even getting into the DPRK.

  • @harshmnr
    @harshmnr 4 года назад +29

    I don't know, I mean I probably wouldn't think it was staged if nobody told me they thought it was. A lot of people who are sick don't "look" sick.
    That being said, the way that girl said "My spine is curved" did seem a little unrealistic and maybe like she was told to say it, and also a curved spine isn't normally something you go to the hospital for (when it's not to an extreme degree); I have that too and I'm fine.
    Still though, I can understand them not showing the treatment of any children because whether it was faked or not, it's normal for a hospital to have patient privacy rules.
    ~:~

    • @BoopSnoot
      @BoopSnoot 2 года назад +4

      It is normal for a hospital to have patient privacy rules, but that would apply to all the children. The fact that they only wish to show some children, all of whom don't appear to have any illness that requires hospitalization, demonstrates how fake it is. "No, you must only see these students we hand picked, you can't see any of the other ones" lol!
