Hell, I'M PUMPED to have discovered this gem since KLRN is my hometown PBS station, I grew up as a PBS kid, and I was born in San Antonio in February 1979, i.e. the very month this was aired!
Man. That old PBS jingle takes me back. I continue to search in vain, however, for an old KLRN commercial bumper jingle which runs through my head from time to time and fills me with that nostalgic ache. I am certain I will be moved to tears if I ever manage to find it.
It's a pretty rare occasion to have other network affiliates around town underwrite programming for PBS (or even NPR) member stations. In my case, I recall one time seeing a general underwriting plug for WBNS 10TV (my hometown Columbus' CBS affiliate) on WOSU. And on WCBE, there was an underwriting spiel for NBC4 (WCMH).
Seeing that it was an open-caption broadcast of ABC's World News Tonight, it probably made sense it would be those two stations as they were ABC affiliates for their respective markets.
Of some interest, this was just before the station was split between both cities as Austin got to eventually have it's own channel (KLRU) and later dissolution with KLRN happened a decade later. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KLRN#History en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KLRU
One of my friends who lives in this area of the country would definitely be interested in this footage. Better tell him about it.

KSAT and KVUE are their favorite ABC stations in Austin and San Antonio

If only the tape lasted to the end of the newscast. Then we would have gotten a sign off!
I remember KVUE and KSAT just never expected to see them on KLRN’s classic clips.
