As someone who comes from Chechnya, I was kinda surprised to see your video, because you don't often see tourists visiting Chechnya and also making a hole video about it. So I'm really grateful to have found your video💕💕
The reason that the bride's relatives aren't at the wedding actually stems from the old tradition where the groom's family would come pick up the bride at her home and bring her to their home. From that day on she 'belongs' to the family of her husband. And the bride's family would be sad that she left, which is why they weren't in a celebratory mood, since they 'lost' a daughter. So they would stay home and cry. Whereas the groom's family would be very happy because they just got their 'new daughter'. So they would throw a party and celebrate.
This is similar to my culture Indian (Hindu). The brides family do come to the wedding however but they are upset to be loosing her and there are a lot of tears of sadness!
I think this aspect of their tradition is ridiculous. Why does anyone have to 'lose' a daughter? I'm all for traditions and cultural norms, but not when people are hurt or insulted.
Hey Eli, get to know please that what you're doing is fundamental to this broken world. By Far, you're doing great job and let the world to see what ordinary Chechen people like. Thank you and I truly admire your work and be safe of doing so.
I am a Chechen, most Chechens are not like the Kadyrovites show us, they are bandits who keep the Chechens in oppression, we are constantly kidnapped and killed, all this with the permission of Putin
Almost all people of the world are decent and respectable. It's just a small bunch of people at the top who use these very decent people to fight against each other and give them bad name. I once visited a country which is an archenemy for us. I was afraid of their army/police or violent reaction from public, but was taken aback by common people's hospitality. Learned that we all are pitched against each other for stupid political reasons (sometimes religious reasons in case of few islamic nations).

But yes many of the laws, norms, customs that Muslims follow around the world are similar as they arise from the following of the Quran and the Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad. They are mainly for social cohesion and keeping the members of the society in a frame of safety and security. So you will find youngsters respectful of elders and this is inculcated by behaviour such as standing up in the presence of elders and addressing elders even the siblings by respectful terms rather than call them by their names. Such behaviour sets rules foe family bonding. In return elders take on responsibility for the youngsters and do not think it as a burden. It is a beautiful system and one of the reasons you do not find homeless people or the need for assisted care because families take care of them. Some people may argue that it restricts liberty and all that but then one has to choose the values and Muslims have chosen this way for themselves.
I heard it's also like that with most of the muslims in Africa.
Same traditions in some Arabic countries ^_^
Thank you for explaining the tradition.
There is always a sensible reason behind them.

Almost all people of the world are decent and respectable. It's just a small bunch of people at the top who use these very decent people to fight against each other and give them bad name. @@williamtarabalka4920 you may not go to jail but certainly you will be socially outcasted Society has its ways of teaching its norms to the uninitiated or the recalcitrant. This is only a small example of the beautiful interdependent web of societies not only Muslims but Hindus, Christian and Buddhists too in most of Asia.

Whoa! Eli, this is fascinating! I love your videos on culture and interviews. Super interesting! Keep it up!
Another excellent episode from Eli!
From the west we always look with black glasses and suspicion at Muslim countries and their cultures.
while we in the west can use our "superior norms and values" as an example of how respectfully those people treat each other there.
pride, respect and honor is something that many in the west no longer know. that has often given way to arrogance.
Thanks again for taking us on your meaningful journeys
Pride, respect and honour of the Chechens is subject to the whims of their dictator Kadyrov. Have you heard about "Chechen apologies" extorted under torture and filmed to humiliate even more? That's the new Chechen pride, respect and order of our days.
@@sir_humpy Cry even more with your fairly tale stories
