Welcome to the world of crochet where we all underestimate how long a project takes. 😁

I don't think you should be embarrassed the first time you do a granny square as a beginner almost no one gets it 100% right especially when it comes to stitching them together. I think you did pretty good stitch work for your first time and I would suggest you try something like a bolero, scarf, beanie or a bucket hat to get more comfortable with your stitches before throwing in the sewing part of multiple pieces. Choosing a smaller project as a beginner helps to give you the satisfaction of completing projects in a shorter time Frame and they are relatively hard to get wrong which builds up proper encouragement to take on bigger projects without making you feel defeated early on. I think once you get more comfortable with crocheting you should turn that top into a bag or you could keep it as a reminder of your progress as you learn more about the art

hi! i just wanted to come in with some advice as an intermediate (ish) crocheter. First off, make sure you don't leave a short end when starting or ending a piece because you're gonna want to weave them in and the longer it is, the less likely it is to unravel over time, especially if it's a garment like this. Secondly, it might help you more in the future to get a measure tape (specifically for yarn projects that is) and measure your body if you like garments to fit you like a glove. This came out pretty decent for your first time crocheting

You did amazingly. I have been crocheting for about 6 years and still struggle sometimes. Don't give up, seriously

It actually looks super cute! Especially once you styled it, I love the little ties at the sides! Creating a wearable garment as a first project is super impressive and now you've learnt from the experience and know how to keep improving! I can't wait to see what you make next!

Very cute! Congratulations! I didn’t make my first garment for myself until I had been crocheting for over 20 years. Kudos to you! Your vest looks really nice on you! ❤

I love your sincerity and the "not taking yourself" that seriously, - AND sharing. You discover whilst doing, and you have learned so much during the prosess. Thank you for sharing 🙂

You are hilarious 😂 Love your personality!! Seriously you made me laugh from the inside, it’s been a long since I laughed like this 😀 I applaud you for making this vest and sharing your process! I ‘m beginning my crotchet journey too and I so relate with everything in this video 🫶🏽 Loved it! Made my first ear warmer last week and it’s functional but for the time and effort I put into it, I could have done better 😆 but, I’m wearing it now as I’m going to sleep, watching this video became it’s made by me🤩

Once you master one piece you’ll be able to freehand other garments! Pls make more crochet video! I love it❤❤❤ my first every crochet piece is a long pouch and it’s so lumpy here and there😆😆 but for now i really love making clothes! So satisfying when it’s finished

You did really well for your first time one tip is to steam it if the yarn is acrylic or wet block it for other fibers it will relax your stitches and your finished project will fit and lay better

Ok but for a very first crochet vest (plus first project ever) it looks so nice. My first vest is way too small and Im probably gonna resize it once Im done with my current project(s). Also I totally understand you with the desire to be good at anything the moment you start it. A quote I like to remember is “day one and one day“ (or smth). Crocheting is very fun, and you learn a lot along the way. Keep going! :)

I've been crocheting for 21 years and just barely started wearables last year. For this to be your first ever project is amazing! It's so cute 😊

Good job. And honestly shit takes time but the thing with crochet is that you do it cuz its fun so try to enjoy the process. Yes ofc you wanna make a finished product but def let it take time. Its slow fashion. ❤ I personally thing you should care about following the hook recommendation on yarn. I think if you used an 8 like advised it woulda fit great with 4 squares wide.

I think it looks good for the first time EVER crocheting. The one thing that went wrong was that you did not account for the sides of the vest. And that was because you thought the sweater you measured had that already calculated. I also think the bulky yarn is hard to work with and it makes a stiffer fabric and you need a drapery one. Try again! You will get better results.
