Hi Friends, I hope you're doing marvellously well! While you probably know me as a pop/rock producer, what you may not know is that I actually am a huge fan of classical music and Jazz. In my teenage years I was obsessed with learning the scales and playing style of Joe Pass and Howard Roberts and would practice for years. I am truly blessed to be able to talk to Keyboardist, Jazz Composer and Producer Jeff Lorber In this episode, we have the pleasure of talking to Jeff Lorber at his studio JHL Sound. Jeff is a phenomenal piano player and jazz composer, who studied under the same teacher as Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and Keith Jarrett. In addition to his extensive solo career counting over a dozen albums, he has also done session work with major producers and artists such as Clive Davis, Richard Perry, The System, Herb Alpert, Dave Koz, Eric Benét, and Laura Branigan. Jeff tells us how he first got started in music, and how he got his big breakthrough in the music industry. He takes us though his studio, shows us his Georg Martin-modified SSL console and his beautiful collection of vintage keyboards and synthesizers. You'll hear him jam on Wurlitzers, Rhodes, Grand Piano and multiple synths.- I could just sit and listen to him jam all day! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Awesome interview. Jeff is probably my favorite keyboard player. From his pop productions to his solo jazz albums, he's definitely one that has inspired me over the years. And that Tr-808 in rack format was definitely awesome to see. Great job, Warren.
If you see him again ask him about James Robinson - what was he thinking wearing those Long John's on stage? Sister and I were 10 & 8 and we loved the song cos we found James' performance hilariously charming.
I’m still at awe 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽 at this Up Close & Personable interview 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽 I’ve been fortunate to be able to hang with Jeff after his gigs (due to my old child hood buddy LIONEL CORDEW playing drums with him quite often …) Jeff Lorber seems to still have that ‘kid like love’ for music 🎶 & what he does . He’s a Natural …. And a Natural Wizard 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽 To me … that’s kind of Spiritual 💥🙏🏽💥 (Being a preacher’s kid , that’s the only way I can think of explaining it …) It’s like that old proverbs of Old King Solomon saying , “There is no better thing for a man than to be able to eat & drink & REJOICE in his labor (&/or “works”) .” - (see proverbs &/or Ecclesiastes…) To be able to enjoy one’s labor & work through out life … and being able to survive doing it (to be able to “eat & drink “) (Note: To be able to “eat & drink “ is meaning in necessity…. “For the fool lives to eat … but the wise eats to live “ … According to that philosophy, the fool lives for the pleasure of eating , while the wise eats for the pleasure of living … living well …. Health is Wealth 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽)
Absolutely priceless! Jeff Lorber is one of the top 5 people on the planet who I always wished I could have a conversation with, if I could manage to put a coherent sentence together! LOL! I am so glad you did it for me! Thank you so much for this!
Please tell me he didn’t lose all these beautiful instruments and equipment in the fire. This stuff is literally priceless. Praying for Jeff and his family.
I was fortunate enough to catch Jeff in the early 80's at a hole-in-the-wall club in Nashville. I believe Dennis Chambers was on drums. Ridiculously great. May even have a photo or two from that evening laying around somewhere. Awesome interview. Great guy. Thanks!
Warren, thank you so much for an awesome interview. I can remember many nights listening to the Jeff Lorber Fusion Band on vinyl. He has been an inspiration to my playing and composing. Jeff seems like he has a big heart and a knack for telling some fantastic stories!
Thanks Warren. It's great to have a chance to listen to Jeff talk about his creative process, studio and things. He is one of my favorite artist. Cliff
Amazing player that I am discovering more and more for the last few months!!...and now with this great interview a generous human being!!...bravo maestro!!...
So glad to find this...huge fan of Jeff and cool to see him showing off his gear. I love (and the envious part of me hates!) how he so effortlessly flies up and down the keyboard simply to demo sounds. Apparently this was Jeff in a "shreddage phase." ;-) Obviously I'll never own a real mini moog (or most if not all of this stuff) but cool to see the real thing after fiddling with "virtual" ones. Edit: loved the Nu Shooz reference at the end...I think that's the first time I saw Jeff's name somewhere other than on his own albums, totally unexpected!
Thanks ever so much again for this Warren! Just recently been listening to Jeff's Private Passion album from 86 and loving the sounds, sonics and writing on it! :)
I hope it's okay if I tune in even though Jeff explains it pretty well (52:35). Sakae is the factory where Yamaha used to build their legendary "recording custom". And since Yamaha moved their production mostly to China, they started building drums under their own name. These are really high quality, handmade Drums.
WOW... I remember seeing Jeff Lorber (when he had long hair) and band (The Jeff Lorber Fusion) for the first time in 1976 or 1977 in Detroit at Wayne State University. They had just finished a concert at Michigan State University and came to totally entertain us. Kenny Gorelick was on sax before he became Kenny G. We were in State Hall I think and so close to the small stage in was INSANE. What a great concert and great time. Thank you Jeff... NEVER WILL FORGET THAT CONCERT!!!
Thank you, Warren, for these great interviews. I became a Lorber fan with Soft Space, then Wizard Island, Galaxian, and so on. Of course, after hearing those albums, I went back to the record store and picked up his first album on Inner City, and Watersign as well. I remember hearing Jeff say in an 80's interview that he discovered Watersign/Wizard Island bassist, Danny Wilson, while he was making salads at a Portland restaurant! When I got my first 4-track, my first project was to record Jeff's song, DELEVANS, playing all the parts. I gave a copy to a stagehand at one of his concerts, not even knowing if it would reach him, since I couldn't get backstage to meet him. I also included a note with it. He actually took the time to send me a very kind and complimentary response, written on a vintage word processor. How cool was he to do that?! Saw him again about 25 years later when he came through S. Florida and played a club gig. I had kept the note he had written, so I brought it with me to remind him of who I am and to thank him. Again, he was very gracious, and he told me he still had that word processor he'd used to write it! After seeing your tour of his studio, it's no surprise. That's my kinda hoarder! Great work. Please keep these coming - they're so informative and entertaining.
Warren, I just want you to know that you and what you do are greatly appreciated!!! Before watching this video, I would have considered myself an average fan of Jeff Lorber. But being able to watch an interview like this and hear some of his history allows fan such as myself to get to know the artists you interview better. With that, we can appreciate their work even more. I'm from Detroit where growing up we had an AWESOME contemporary jazz station, WJZZ (Which is where I was first introduced to Mr Lorber). But the powers that be decided to get rid of that format and in turn left that audience hanging. I truly dream of the day Detroiters would be blessed to have a station like that again. But in the meatime, thanks so much for what you do. To Jeff Lorber: Thanks so much for a great interview and great stories that encourage me to continue making music. BLESSINGS!!!
Thanks Larry, for your extremely kind words!! I love paying Jazz, but alas I don't get the time to play it like I should! I'm a humble Rock and Blues guy who can fake some Jazz! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thank you so much for this. Jeff Lorber is one of my absolute favorite musicians. It was so interesting to hear how much into the gear and sound engineering he is. He's coming to Indy in a month and cannot wait to hear him again!
This was AWESOME!!! What a nice guy and super talent. Jeff was pretty good too :) I have admired Jeff for years. What a treat. Thanks to the both of you!
Another great opportunity to hang out and learn from you and one of your many unbelievable friends in the biz. There are so many great learning moments with these, I'm full again as a consumer and distant student. Thanks to both of you for staying in the game long enough to realize your rewards and passing along your observations and lessons learned. Outstanding material for many many many of us out there......Again folks, if not for Warren we would not have heard this conversation in the HollyWood hills......love this stuff!
I met Jeff around 1978 when the Jeff Lorber Fusion played at the Blue Note in Boulder. I worked at a music store (Solid Sound) and the band came in. We ended up selling them a brand new drum set, Yamaha analog delay and some other stuff. We shipped their old drum set back to Portland for them. Ten years later, I was product manager at Akai and Jeff played on the first recording of an Akai 12-track digital recorder. After that, he also did MIDI demos for us. He's a great player and nice guy.
That's a great story! Thanks for sharing! I wish I could hear those Akai 12 track demos again now I know it was Jeff! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
The rough mix is the first two tunes here: soundcloud.com/mike_mcroberts. Jeff is most prominent on Dr. Doo. The title Dr. Doo came from my bad handwriting, when I wrote DR 1200. These were mixed at around 4-5 am at the end of the second day.
What a wonderful privilege to hear Mister Jeff Lorber talks about his incredible knowledge and experience ! He is with no doubt my favorite keyboard player ! I have ALL of his albums !
I watch all your videos and hold you in high regard. Most every genre of music I love, but great jazz musicians reel me in into another blissful world entirely. I have been fortunate enough to do sound for a few heavy weights. It is a great experience. Technically you don"t have to do too much, because pretty much they all are really good and almost automatically have a great sound. (for guitar players that means tone) All your videos are cool, but today on this rainy afternoon, I kicked back and really enjoyed this one. Thank you Mr. Huart! Thank you Mr. Lorber! It gave me more ideas for my own little music habitat. Really Good Stuff Man!
Hi Rocko Zipzone thanks very much! Yes, Jeff is an amazing player!! He's truly inspirational!! Have a marvelous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I saw Jeff Lorber Group at the Exit Inn in Nashville in the seventies and they were really Fantastic!!!!!! What a Really Great Musician!!!!! Brilliant Warren!!!!! Top Notch!!!!!!
I'm always in awe in front of jazz musicians. It's hard work, and it it's long work... But here, I've got to say, Jeff is a mindblowing player! Wow. Just wow. Thanks Warren and Jeff!
Monster player, I remember the first year I went to NAMM in the beginning of the 80’s, his group was playing the Yamaha booth with Kenny Gorlick on sax .. man what a mesmerizing half hour that was! Yamaha had just come out with their new FM synth . I think it was called the GS-1 .. it was the one that looked like a little baby grand piano, Jeff was playing the road version of it (GS-2?) Very cool to watch this interview all these years later .. and yeah that little mini piano concert at the end! .. thanks for recording that Warren 👍🎹
Warren, this is just Fab.. Jeff is out of sight. All of it. When threaded the Studer and ran it, I swear I could smell the tape.. Thanks for the rekindled memory.. Big Smile.
He sold an album from HDTracks.com. He was impressive on the shoot with you mind, you both were. But album is stunning. Ask him when his new album will be on HdTracks.com Thanks for the tape smell. LOL
Hi Jimmy, thanks ever so much! Yes, Jeff was very gracious to share his story with us! What an incredible talent! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
This is the format! Talk, play, talk, play. Ha ha. Jeff is amazing. "Get online and watch some more videos" well put. Isn't that amazing how much you can learn from just going to youtube these days? and there it came again "i always record in audio". That should really be told to everyone, especially in these "recording with vst's" days. it's just lately like last year or so i realised the importance of that. The control of the volume peaks, etc. Feel sorry for Jeff that i don't know about his music. But born in 84 Jeff had released quite a lot of records even before i was born so, ha ha. Warren u were right btw, it really is a dream of a musician! Crazy how much gear he has.
Hi There! What a fantastic interview with Jeff Lorber. His one of my music Idols of the Jazz - Fusion era of the 70's ie the "Jeff Lorber Fusion".The highlight Albums of that period for me is the "Soft Space" & "Wizard Island".I thought he was from Porland so that fact and others I did not know. Great interview and insight into this amazing Artists.
A real trip down the lane. It is unfortunate I didn't keep all my 'vintage' keys. Even sold my Wuli and Korg organ a while back when I moved. But...about the interview Mahvellous Warren. Thank Jeff for being so gracious. Suggest he make some of his 'best' keyboard hooks available directly to the guys who want to use them. Stip down to just his keys...not other instruments.
I can't believe you didn't ask him about the typewriter in the piano room! Now THERE'S a piece of history! Great job, Warren -- one of your best interviews.
An excellent and very interesting interview combined with a superb and enjoyable insight into Jeff's studio, the "world" where his great music is created! Jeff is one of my favourite musicians, he has always been a big inspiration to me. Well done, Warren, I love your Video!
Fantastic interview with an all time great! Long time fan from the Wizard Island days. I got to meet Jeff last year in Columbus along with Paul Jackson Jr, Everett Harp and Lionel Cordew after a great show. Great music loving guys!
Great video. I used to see Jeff perform in Boston when he was attending Berklee school of music. He was just a young kid back then but was super talented and new his career would explode.
Nice to see this!!! I'm a fan of Jeff's....He's such a great musician..nice to see how bad he sucks on drums...makes me feel a bit better as that's my main instrument. Another winner.
Crazy, I've sampled Jeff a few times (haven't sold or released any of the beats, plz don't sue lol). Awesome to see a little snippet of how he works. Super inspirational! Love..
Loving these producer/musician/engineer interviews Warren! But I don't think Mozart hated the clarinet. He regularly featured it in his chamber and orchestral work, and his clarinet quintet is probably one of his most popular pieces among audiences and musicians alike (especially clarinetists haha). Many thanks, and keep having a marvelous time recording and mixing! ;)
Thanks again Warren for that great interview and studio tour! I used to listen to Jeff Lorber's music a lot when I was student at recording school (that was Trebas in Montreal, by the way). He's just great! Wasn't he a columnist for keyboard magazine in the 80's or so Anyway... Thanks again and thanks Jeff, a really sympathetic guy ;-) Keep going!
did that .. live joe pass ella fitzgerald got it ... I'm not watching these all in date order but since the one where jeff breaks down the chords .. I have been so inspired to practice .. & I know in real time ( 4.44. am 24.8.17 for me ) you must be super busy & full on with the Plap .. but cheers warren & another fabulous muso for me to follow ..
Yeah, all the great gear! WOW! But ya know what stuck in my head the most? That TYPEWRITER on Jeff's dining table! :D I LUV hearing artists who came up in the analog days, who knows how to take the best from both the new & the old.
Absolutely great video and interview. I was wondering if by chance Jeff or his friend Reggie who worked with Chaka Khan, knows Evens Colas? What an amazing and gifted keyboard player Jeff is. I could see it was hard for him to move away from his Grand Piano once he got started playing it. That's a real dedicated musician, when it almost looks physically painful to actually stop playing. lol!
Man, It would be good to jam with Jeff! How awesome!!!... & Warren I wanted to see you jam more on that Ibanez Jazz guitar! You sounded fantastic!!! :)
I watch this over and over. Amazing interview!!! Thank you! May I ask what is the studio desk that Mr. Lorber uses? He has an 88 key synth and an upper tier for another keyboard to the top left, and additionally an L shaped slab that holds two monitors. Can you share more on this, please? Thank you, again.
I loved it. Funny enough, I compose a lot of songs with Band-in-a-box and always seem to choose Jeff Lorber as the keyboard man...I wonder why...hahaha
Fun fact about the recycler: circa 1981, a punk kid from Denmark named Lars Ulrich put an ad in that paper looking for fellow musicians who were into the NWOBHM sound. Another kid named James Hetfield responded to the ad...
Dan are you referring to your beer in the picture as being just too cool? Haha, glad you enjoyed the video. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
To me … the most valuable instrument Jeff has in his entire collection is the Yamaha Disklavier grand piano 🤗🙏🏽 (It’s a best of both worlds … Acoustic & Electronic ) And that DS6 Disklavier is a best in Yamaha’s acoustic grand pianos (Thru ‘S’ series are the hand made Yamaha Grand 🎹 Pianos … that’s like in a level of a Steinway even …. Plus it’s built in Disklavier system …. The absolute BEST in Player Pianos … the most accurate recording & playing a JC Player Pianos ever …) I was fortunate to acquire an even older , 1st series , Yamaha Disklavier - DC3E - s C3 (6’1 ft. ) - ‘Wagon Grand ‘ … original owner - 1999 … ) and that piano still works so efficiently .. It plays back so accurately whatever is played on it … to even the slightest key stroke .. that doesn’t even hit a string …. And every sustain pedal pressed … to lost accurate detailed .. So I can only imagine how much any later or newer Disklavier would function & perform … (I hear from piano techs who know … that even an old Disklavier is not as much different in excellence . It’s like Jeff said about some gear in his collection … some things are so perfect they just don’t need to be made differently … just remain constant That old ‘Wagon Grand’ Disklavier still has midi - in & out available to a high caliber acoustic Grand piano that Yamaha built from scratch with their system All Disklavier Pianos are built from Scratch with that system … No matter how much the digital electronic world may change &/or ‘progress’ , it’s still very nice to have access to a very fine & nice acoustic instrument that can still ‘ inter-lace ‘ with electronic world … But I am very at awe that Jeff has an ‘S’ series Yamaha grand piano alone … of itself …. But even further a Disklavier - S - series …. wow … that’s HANDS DOWN 🙏🏽 I was fortunate to be able to contact BOB JAMES and text / write him a respectful & polite amusing inquiring asking him what piano he had in his home studio set up , after viewing some Class he was offering some RUclips posting . I politely informed him that I was in a market for a decent grand piano 🎹 , at that moment Etc … I was very delighted and surprised to receive an answer so promptly .. and informative …. he said he has & uses a Yamaha C7 Disklavier … “The Best” , as he said … for an acoustic grand piano to use with one’s DAW setup (Pro Tools , Logic Pro ….. etc … ) Then he kindly told me to keep him posted & feel free to send further question(s) …. I am at total AWE & in Gratitude 🙏🏽 💥🙏🏽 Amen 🙏🏽 💥🙏🏽
Jeff Lorber is so freaking awesome. What a legend 😎
This men are one of the best keyboard player from the 80s and underated musican..

It’s like that old proverbs of Old King Solomon saying ,
“There is no better thing for a man than to be able to eat & drink & REJOICE in his labor (&/or “works”) .” - (see proverbs &/or Ecclesiastes…)
To be able to enjoy one’s labor & work through out life … and being able to survive doing it (to be able to “eat & drink “)
(Note: To be able to “eat & drink “ is meaning in necessity….
“For the fool
lives to eat … but the wise eats to live “ …
According to that philosophy, the fool lives for the pleasure of eating , while the wise eats for the pleasure of living … living well …. Health is Wealth 🙏🏽💥🙏🏽)
Am I the only one who noticed he introduced Jeff as "Jeff Torber"?!!

Great interview and wonderful to hear Jeff's playing. Cheers!
Many thanks msgflava, thanks for your wonderful support! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
Warren, this is just Fab.. Jeff is out of sight. All of it. When threaded the Studer and ran it, I swear I could smell the tape.. Thanks for the rekindled memory.. Big Smile.
Aw shucks Wayne, that means a lot. I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
He sold an album from HDTracks.com. He was impressive on the shoot with you mind, you both were. But album is stunning. Ask him when his new album will be on HdTracks.com Thanks for the tape smell. LOL
Thanks Wayne for the information!! I will definitely check it out! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Absolutely inspirational. I began playing Piano when I was about 9 years old and this guy has a very motivating story.
Haha I agree! Playing music is what it's ALL about!!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks George! Yes, I agree, Jeff is amazing and such a great guy! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks John for your incredible insight! I really appreciate it! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
I can't believe you didn't ask him about the typewriter in the piano room! Now THERE'S a piece of history! Great job, Warren -- one of your best interviews.
Hi Benjamin! Haha ah yes the typewriter! We will go back and ask again! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
An excellent and very interesting interview combined with a superb and enjoyable insight into Jeff's studio, the "world" where his great music is created! Jeff is one of my favourite musicians, he has always been a big inspiration to me. Well done, Warren, I love your Video!
Hi Roberto Carrasco I agree 100% Jeff is an amazing musician and a great guy! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Thanks Warren. A fascinating piece of recording history ! Wish I owned a console like that!
Hi Ged, thanks very much! Us SSL owners love our consoles! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren

Hi TheFelineEmpire I agree! Amazing!
That Clavinet was actually speaking, didn't get if it's some custom mod for him only or some custom model that you can actually buy.
that was a mod of a D6
Great question, totally agree, it sounds beautiful! Thanks for chiming in Steve. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren

Man ….. wish they’ve been recording that performance on the Disklavier …. And save the midi files 🤗🙏🏾
Jeff Lorber is such a nice person! Nice ITW
Crazy, I've sampled Jeff a few times (haven't sold or released any of the beats, plz don't sue lol). Awesome to see a little snippet of how he works. Super inspirational! Love..
BTW Rain Dance is one of the most classic samples in hip hop ever..
Great interview. I have always liked Jeff Lorber style and music. I hope to one day work with him.
Hi James, agreed, I've been a fan of his playing for years! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Whoop! Loved that one! My old man was a keyboardist, seemed a little like my home growing up, pianos and organs all over the house!
Thanks ever so much Steve!! That sound like a wonderful upbringing! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
It certainly was my friend; paved my path through life before i even realised it.
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
Loving these producer/musician/engineer interviews Warren! But I don't think Mozart hated the clarinet. He regularly featured it in his chamber and orchestral work, and his clarinet quintet is probably one of his most popular pieces among audiences and musicians alike (especially clarinetists haha). Many thanks, and keep having a marvelous time recording and mixing! ;)
Yep. His clarinet concerto (K.622) is one of Mozart's most beautiful pieces. Maybe Warren meant Clavinet rather than Clarinet :)
Haha maybe Steve! I can't remember which instrument it was! Haha Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Haha yes indeed freewheelinghorn! I'm sure I;m completely wrong!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Haha I know to was my mistake! It was supposed to be the flute! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Very cool interview love Jeffs music.
Thanks ever so much my friend! Agreed Jeff is amazing!
Hi Claudius, that's amazing! Yes, Jeff is hugely talented and incredibly humble! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Claudius LeBlanc o
Great video, nice to see so many keyboards
Yes! Loads!! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
did that .. live joe pass ella fitzgerald got it ...
Yes!!! Ella and Joe Pass! Amazing!! Have a marvelous time recording and mixing many thanks Warren
Yeah, all the great gear! WOW! But ya know what stuck in my head the most? That TYPEWRITER on Jeff's dining table! :D I LUV hearing artists who came up in the analog days, who knows how to take the best from both the new & the old.
Fantastic video. Some great info and great playing! 😀
Thanks so much for this video, Warren! Finally one of the top keyboarders, and one who cannot let his fingers off the keys at that. ;) Awesome stuff!
I agree! Amazing player! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
Interesting conversation of how a spark starts ah fire. Young up and comer's need to take heed of that.
Thanks ever so much!
Don't know how I missed this when it first published. He since won a Grammy with a friend of mine.
That's a real dedicated musician, when it almost looks physically painful to actually stop playing. lol!
Hi Martin, I'm not sure! Yes, Jeff is an amazing keyboard player, truly talented!! Have a marvellous time recording, many thanks Warren
Man, It would be good to jam with Jeff! How awesome!!!... & Warren I wanted to see you jam more on that Ibanez Jazz guitar! You sounded fantastic!!! :)
Hi Grant, I am going back and will play the George Benson guitar! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, many thanks Warren
Love that impromptu jam
I could sit and listen all day! Haha, have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
I loved it. Funny enough, I compose a lot of songs with Band-in-a-box and always seem to choose Jeff Lorber as the keyboard man...I wonder why...hahaha
Great musician & interview*****
Great video Warren! Wow he played with Scofield, awesome!
Totally agree Tiege, Jeff has and impressive resume! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
OMG,Jeff Lorber . Great to see him in PLAP!!
I'm glad you're enjoying the video Junyi! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
Fun fact about the recycler: circa 1981, a punk kid from Denmark named Lars Ulrich put an ad in that paper looking for fellow musicians who were into the NWOBHM sound. Another kid named James Hetfield responded to the ad...
Great 👍
it was awesome warren but
Dan are you referring to your beer in the picture as being just too cool? Haha, glad you enjoyed the video. Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
What a nice guy Jeff is
He's a great guy! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing, Warren
One of my big influences
To me … the most valuable instrument Jeff has in his entire collection is the Yamaha Disklavier grand piano 🤗🙏🏽
(It’s a best of both worlds … Acoustic & Electronic )
And that DS6 Disklavier is a best in Yamaha’s acoustic grand pianos
(Thru ‘S’ series are the hand made Yamaha Grand 🎹 Pianos … that’s like in a level of a Steinway even ….
Plus it’s built in Disklavier system …. The absolute BEST in Player Pianos … the most accurate recording & playing a JC Player Pianos ever …)
I was fortunate to acquire an even older , 1st series , Yamaha Disklavier - DC3E - s C3 (6’1 ft. ) - ‘Wagon Grand ‘ … original owner - 1999 … ) and that piano still works so efficiently ..
It plays back so accurately whatever is played on it … to even the slightest key stroke .. that doesn’t even hit a string …. And every sustain pedal pressed … to lost accurate detailed ..
So I can only imagine how much any later or newer Disklavier would function & perform …
(I hear from piano techs who know … that even an old Disklavier is not as much different in excellence .
It’s like Jeff said about some gear in his collection … some things are so perfect they just don’t need to be made differently … just remain constant
That old ‘Wagon Grand’ Disklavier still has midi - in & out available to a high caliber acoustic
Grand piano that Yamaha built from scratch with their system
All Disklavier Pianos are built from
Scratch with that system …
No matter how much the digital electronic world may change &/or ‘progress’ , it’s still very nice to have access to a very fine & nice acoustic instrument that can still ‘ inter-lace ‘ with electronic world …
But I am very at awe that Jeff has an ‘S’ series Yamaha grand piano alone … of itself …. But even further a Disklavier - S - series …. wow … that’s HANDS DOWN 🙏🏽
I was fortunate to be able to contact BOB JAMES and text / write him a respectful & polite amusing inquiring asking him what piano he had in his home studio set up , after viewing some Class he was offering some RUclips posting .
I politely informed him that I was in a market for a decent grand piano 🎹 , at that moment Etc …
I was very delighted and surprised to receive an answer so promptly .. and informative …. he said he has & uses a Yamaha C7 Disklavier … “The Best” , as he said … for an acoustic grand piano to use with one’s DAW setup (Pro Tools
, Logic Pro ….. etc … )
Then he kindly told me to keep him posted & feel free to send further question(s) ….
I am at total AWE & in Gratitude 🙏🏽 💥🙏🏽
Amen 🙏🏽 💥🙏🏽
Jeff plays the day of rose and wine with nice chords here; if he can have a album playing standards that would be GREAT !!
