- When Joe Perry got divorced, he had to sell his 1959 Gibson Les Paul. When he tried to find it to get it back, it was non other than Slash who had it! After bugging Slash so much about getting it back it was starting to strain their friendship, the story ends up with a happy ending!

The 1959 sunburst Les Paul Standard is an amazing instrument.
In that year Gibson only made 643 of them and now, 63 years later, only about 4000 of them have survived.

In the early eighties I was playing bass guitar in a bar band that practiced above and old movie theater in the Hyde Park area of Boston. There were several old offices there that other bands rented and practiced in as well. When Joe Perry left Aerosmith he rented out and set up in one of those rooms down the hall from us, reportedly to audition singers for the Joe Perry Project. I was able to meet him and shake his hand there one evening. He is a very quiet and humble guy and a real gentleman.
I'm glad to hear he was reunited with his favorite old LP.
Slash did the right thing and beyond.

I waited on Joe Perry andvmembers of the Joe Perry Project at a restaurant in Corpu Christi, Texas when Aerosmith was broke up. It was my last table of the night. Afterwards, we went to a club and I introduced them to the band from Austin that was playing that night. After the next break, they got up on stage and played "Train Kept a Rolling" and 2 or 3 other songs. We hung out til the bar closed. Great time andvmemory.
So Slash is pretty cool after all.

For a few years, I owned a '52 Les Paul. Natural finish. Funny thing for me to play, as all I worked on was jazz chord melody. Never worried about banging it into anything, as it was harder than everything else in my place.

I'd like to think that Slash intentionally stalled out giving Joe his 59 back as a gift especially when you consider how big of an influence Joe and Aerosmith as a whole had on him and his playing. I could picture him thinking to himself I'll just wait until you're 50 and give it to you then we'll be bros forever 🔥

All these famous musicians have huge guitar collections.Back in the mid 60s, Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones played on several Donovan records.
Over the decades,they remained friends.A few years ago,Donovan visited Page at His estate in London
Page has over 300 guitars
Donovan picked them all up and was blown away that every one of the guitars were tuned!!!

Met him at Captiva Beach Sanibel island. Actually a down to earth guy. He rolled a beach ball back and forth with my daughter. She was only 2 at the time and had no idea who he was.

So slash made the guy wait for years to get his own guitar back....
Joe himself made the decision to sell the damn thing and Slash bought it.
Slash didn't borrow the guitar, nor got it as gift, HE PAID FOR IT, from that moment onwards that guitar belonged to Slash fair and square. He didn't have to give it back to Joe, but did so anyway.
Joe spent several years pestering Slash about the guitar, but all this mess is 100% on Joe's own stupidity. If only he had a prenup before marrying, but at the time that idiot was more concerned about snorting c0k3 and pissing his pathetic ass whilst drunk.
