The Acroballista is legit! I like how you used arms that were grown to be curved. The splitting problem could maybe be solved with some constrictor knots around the arm near the tips, with the knots pulled taught with marlinspikes
@@HistoricalWeapons I think he named this particular one the "Acroballista" not because that's what the design is called but because it goes with the channel name. Could have named it "George" or such. I think this could be called a lot of names, manuballista would be acceptable, scorpion would be acceptable, etc. Terminology is a mess
great video, just a joy to watch how your love for detail becomes visible (wooden fletches). I also once built a small model of a ballista / skorpion and was impressed by the performance in relation to the draw weight (but yeah, the draw weight with a torsion mechanism, still has a lot of punch in the front area of the power stroke compared to a classic crossbow / a better spring constant for the acceleration way) Have you already tried very short bolts for the crossbow? due to the short acceleration way of a typical steel bow, they tend to have a bad flight if they are longer than the wooden part of the crossbow (they need a very stiff spine for short but hard acceleration / thats also why the work good with the longer power stroke of the skorpion)
The crossbow string might be two thin, causing it not too properly push the arrows and bolts. The arrows I think are too weak spined. So they bend to much and fly in all directions.
Thank You for the video. You got like and subscribe from me. It would be interesting to see modernised version of scorpion with more modern material, like limbs made of carbon to make them faster and lighter. Best regards from Serbia.
@@Acroballistics I think Timpa had a video of one where you could choose the release time. It would be interesting to see more of that, rather than the ones that release automaticly

Wow what a beautiful country; hills, mountains, trees, grass slopes, flat land, rocks..............its all there.
Fantastic construction! Really shows the genius of those ancient inventors

I'll fix them with glue and hemp and make a new pair so that I can replace the on the field.
@@Acroballistics it splits due to the design. So might be wise to go for a basic nock.
Isn’t it a manuballista?

Really nice ballista build. 👍

I don't know what it is. I think the bow is too tilted and makes the bowstring push up and down. but I dont make the best bolts either...
@@Acroballistics probably shoot short and stiff crossbow bolts and lett the string rubb a bit on the bolt deck.
Main reason why crossbow shoot slow is the steel prod. Terrible efficiency

have you tried staff slings?
yes but I have to try them more because it didn't get further than 100m

@@Anomalous-Plantyes, I would love to see a short, one-hand staff sling... surely it would be more powerful than a regular sling
How heavy is the ballista in drawweight?
I didn't do a proper measurement but around 20kg (with the washers twisted 180° from arms insertion position)
@@Acroballistics how much more do you think you might twist them?
